Things seen/heard at Opening Day
MiddleCoastBias replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
What's the new opener like that they play on the big screen before Thunderstuck? Did they use the same theme/song? Anyone have a link to a video of it? -
Useful shot, lad. Well done!

Does KW now make a play for Cust on the cheap?
MiddleCoastBias replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) Yes, but no. I would really like somebody like Cust in this lineup, a power lefty bat who can DH and platoon with Jones. Let's all hope that Mark Kotsay sucks enough for KW to pull the trigger somehow. I'm not digging this platoon idea. If we're going to platoon players, leave it with the Jones/Kotsay bag we have right now and see how that works out. If we decide it's not working, go out and get a full-time DH and scrap this platoon idea for good. -
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Okay i'm watching the Sox/Yanks and it's decided: I'm skipping all my classes (I have class from 1-4). The question is: how do I avoid failing my mandatory class? It will take some squirming but I have confidence in my bulls***ing abilities. The Sox are just worth sacrificing for, especially this season Two years ago I skipped a quiz that was 10% of my semester grade for the 1st game of the playoffs. That game was then rain-delayed, and I missed my quiz for nothing. The following week when the prof handed back the quizzes, he was like "I didn't give your quiz back, did you take it?" I just shook my head, shrugged, and said "playoffs." He dropped that quiz for me.

Shouldn't this be in the SlaM forum? -
No wonder why Brian Anderson could never hit...

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Singleton wasn't really a big name. He had a couple solid seasons and played good defense. He did spend a short time with the Yankees. If he can make it, I'd have to think a guy like Anderson would have a shot if he wanted to do that. From what I've heard, Darrin Jackson wasn't all that memorable either. -

I hate this guy. But I love World Series championships. To victory! -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) I think there has to be concern about Garcia if only for the fact that he really hasn't done anything since 2006. That's a long time. I know a lot of people were thrilled with his performance last September, including me, but face it, a lot of performances you see in September are never repeated. Its not like the Sox are paying him a lot of money. Despite what Oney Guillen thinks, and he knows more about baseball than any of us because he hit almost .140 in rookie ball, there's a good chance Freddy is a bust. I'm pretty sure KW knows the odds as much as anyone. Its probably one big reason Hudson isn't in the bullpen. Calling Jerry Owens and Josh Fields, circa 2007....

It's weird to think that when I first saw the thread title, my first thought was "ok, we get it... he's an intense competitor, sweet...". I was almost getting sick of being inundated with stories about how amped Peavy is to pitch, and to pitch for US. And then I took a step back and thought "niiiice... every other team would KILL for a Cy Young pitcher that is just dying to get the ball", and here I am thinking that it's overkill to see all these stories about how excited he is. Hell, I LOVE this. Burls is an amazing pitcher, Floyd and Danks are amazing in their own right, but we now have that stud pitcher with attitude, the drive to teach (and more importantly) lead and drive others on the team. Buerhle is awesome for everything he does, but his strength is not in the clubhouse, it's on the field. I really think Peavy will be an awesome fit here, psyched to have him. :

QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) I absolutely love this song. Would you rather we had a crappy 80s pop song? Agreed, love it. I get excited every time I hear it. And that awesome intro from last year- amazing. I can't wait to see what the intro looks like this year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 08:39 PM) I'm just hoping we can do what the 2009 Mariners did, only that 86 wins or whatever they had with great pitching and no hitting is good enough to win this division. Either that, or maybe we deal for a bat in July. No matter what order we bat these guys in, they still won't score runs (although significant AB's for Vizquel and hitting Kotsay 3rd ever would make it even worse obviously.) What was that site that predicts the ideal lineup for a team, and also predicts how many runs each lineup will warrant? Someone posted it back when the Twins picked up Thome, outlining how they will outscore us by like 90 runs with their 'ideal' lineup. I'd be interested to see what that site predicts for us in terms of run production with Kotsay batting third. Anyone help me out?

Quick hit: Rangers in the hunt at the break. Trade for Bobby Jenks. Win the West. Putz steps up as our closer, win the Central.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) For a while, the Nats has Lastings Milledge in that outfield as well, what a coaches dream. Wasn't he penned as the Nats' starting OFer last spring but didn't make it through May? And the All-Star ballot was already written by then so he was on the ballot while having only played like 4 games? I remember the Nats fans trying to 'stick it to the system' by voting for him to start in the All-Star game despite him being in AA... too bad all 17 of their fans weren't enough.

I recently moved down to Arkansas (shudder) for work, and the have me stationed in Fayetteville. First thing I did when I got here was check out the baseball schedule, and caught a game against Troy. The Razorbacks are #15th in the country and it's always good to see some quality baseball played. I've got to say, their complex here is QUITE impressive. And their fans are very passionate. I hope I'll be able to make it out for a number of games down here, seeing that they'll play a number of great teams. While U of I baseball games are fun (for the 40 people in attendance), southern schools now how to do college baseball the right way. Gotta love that *ping*!

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) and once Crede's back fails, who are you gonna bring in to back him up? Andy Gonzalez or Josh Fields, duh

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 01:58 AM) Oddly enough, this would have been one hell of a poll thread. Agreed. Every time I buy a Sox hat, I always send pics of the potential hats to my Sox friends to see which is best.
