  1. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 02:08 AM) Screw the platoon. Bat Jones 5th and plant his ass in LF. Bam.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 12, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Yes, I mean the 3rd catcher ON THE TEAM. Lucy is the 2nd catcher. I really doubt that they want Konerko doing that right now, with his age, hip, etc. My best guess is Nix, or maybe Vizquel. He's about 12 minutes away from requiring a prosthetic, and he'll qualify under AARP.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 11:55 PM) The Sox didn't want to spend $1+ mill on a pitcher who essentially pitched in meaningless situations, even if he was very good at it. Considering the situation now (and I know how supposedly tight the money is), might it have been worth spending the $1M there to shore up the back-end pitching given how dependent this lineup is going to be on a stellar starting staff? Sure we don't have the room to spend the $5M to get a real DH, but if we really are going the full pitching route, why not make sure we have the depth in the pen to make sure we're not going to blow games late, or in the case of Carrasco, we can hold on to games that got out of hand early and give our bats a chance to wake up without blowing everyone's arm for the next 3 days?
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) The bullpen has been absolutely abused this week in terms of how much it's been used, particularly considering we don't have a long reliever. Combine that with Buehrle being in a major rhythm and ending up with a not too bad pitch count of 114, as well as the possibility of extra innings (and more bullpen overuse) looming along with 7 road games in 7 days starting tomorrow, and I don't see how anybody can argue he was left in too long honestly. It's slipping my mind now, but why again didn't we bring back Carrasco? Someone posted an article a ways back about the value of long relievers and he was far and away the best in some arbitrary rating system that I can't remember (yes, I know, I'm not really contributing anything at this point). Point is, Carrasco got a flack early but turned into a great long guy, and I can't remember why we didn't bring him back. Was it that he wanted to be a starter somewhere..?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) F*** this, I"m going to bed. Time to pour a self-loathing bourbon and numb the pain.
  6. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 10:18 PM) we still wont score The emoticon makes it.
  7. Awesome shots. What kind of camera/lenses did you use?
  8. What's the new opener like that they play on the big screen before Thunderstuck? Did they use the same theme/song? Anyone have a link to a video of it?
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 03:38 PM) they will also be top 10 plays on sportscenter tonight. Actually what I should have said is that I don't have a tv...
  10. QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) What a catch to end the game!!!! RIOS!!!! Unable to watch the game today. I've heard mention of spectacular plays by Burls and Rios; I imagine they will be available on whitesox.com soon, correct?
  11. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) Yes, but no. I would really like somebody like Cust in this lineup, a power lefty bat who can DH and platoon with Jones. Let's all hope that Mark Kotsay sucks enough for KW to pull the trigger somehow. I'm not digging this platoon idea. If we're going to platoon players, leave it with the Jones/Kotsay bag we have right now and see how that works out. If we decide it's not working, go out and get a full-time DH and scrap this platoon idea for good.
  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) we were in the playoffs last year? My B, first game against the Rays, 2 years ago.
  13. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Okay i'm watching the Sox/Yanks and it's decided: I'm skipping all my classes (I have class from 1-4). The question is: how do I avoid failing my mandatory class? It will take some squirming but I have confidence in my bulls***ing abilities. The Sox are just worth sacrificing for, especially this season Two years ago I skipped a quiz that was 10% of my semester grade for the 1st game of the playoffs. That game was then rain-delayed, and I missed my quiz for nothing. The following week when the prof handed back the quizzes, he was like "I didn't give your quiz back, did you take it?" I just shook my head, shrugged, and said "playoffs." He dropped that quiz for me.
  14. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) keep this coming each week, i need it. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/schedule/index.jsp?c_id=cws
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 08:02 PM) Funny you should ask... In order to get banned, all you have to do is ask what it takes to get banned. ... Indeed.
  16. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Apr 4, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) the yankees and red sox are playing right now if you just want to watch baseball Ugh, but you have to listen to Joe Morgan's analysis... Who is the other analyst with him tonight? He's embarrassing Morgan with his insight, and I think Joe knows it.
  17. Out of curiosity, what does it take to get banned? And how often does it happen?
  18. Jhonnydanks, where are you on this one... have to start this season off right.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) Singleton wasn't really a big name. He had a couple solid seasons and played good defense. He did spend a short time with the Yankees. If he can make it, I'd have to think a guy like Anderson would have a shot if he wanted to do that. From what I've heard, Darrin Jackson wasn't all that memorable either.
  20. I hate this guy. But I love World Series championships. To victory!
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 31, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) I think there has to be concern about Garcia if only for the fact that he really hasn't done anything since 2006. That's a long time. I know a lot of people were thrilled with his performance last September, including me, but face it, a lot of performances you see in September are never repeated. Its not like the Sox are paying him a lot of money. Despite what Oney Guillen thinks, and he knows more about baseball than any of us because he hit almost .140 in rookie ball, there's a good chance Freddy is a bust. I'm pretty sure KW knows the odds as much as anyone. Its probably one big reason Hudson isn't in the bullpen. Calling Jerry Owens and Josh Fields, circa 2007....
  22. It's weird to think that when I first saw the thread title, my first thought was "ok, we get it... he's an intense competitor, sweet...". I was almost getting sick of being inundated with stories about how amped Peavy is to pitch, and to pitch for US. And then I took a step back and thought "niiiice... every other team would KILL for a Cy Young pitcher that is just dying to get the ball", and here I am thinking that it's overkill to see all these stories about how excited he is. Hell, I LOVE this. Burls is an amazing pitcher, Floyd and Danks are amazing in their own right, but we now have that stud pitcher with attitude, the drive to teach (and more importantly) lead and drive others on the team. Buerhle is awesome for everything he does, but his strength is not in the clubhouse, it's on the field. I really think Peavy will be an awesome fit here, psyched to have him. :
