QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 13, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) Say I lose a receipt, no problem, they can credit it back to my CC and verify my purchase using that. I actually really like that stores can do this. Target does and I think Menards might as well. I'm horrible at keeping track of receipts when I need to return something.

Heyman "Count on" Danks filling for free agency
Iwritecode replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I keep thinking about Roger Clemens in 2005. He got an average of 3.43 runs in run support/game that year yet finished with an ERA of 1.87 and only had a 13-8 record. Dank so far as gotten an average of 2.59 runs of support/game. -
QUOTE (The Gooch @ May 12, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) They don't seem to realize that they lose a lot of good talent by waiting so long sometimes. For my first job I had to wait about a month to hear back from them. I later found out that I was the first of 8 interviews they had lined up.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) That's one of the best reasons to use one, that's truly an emergency. Did they keep raising your interest rate? No, just our credit limit so we could charge more. I think the rate on it now is like 22%, which is why we pay the balance every month now.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:17 AM) The important thing is to now cancel the cards so that you don't have too high of a revolving credit line. This was about 6 years ago. We've kept our credit good and have a score near 800 now.

Our credit cards probably saved us from bankruptcy a few years back when my wife was unemployed for 9 months. We were literally living off of them. We racked up a huge amount of debt which we are currently paying off. Ironically we got a personal loan from Discover to do it.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 11, 2011 -> 11:10 AM) I believe the $50 policy is pretty much industry standard. It used to be $20. They raised it in the last couple of years.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 11, 2011 -> 02:30 AM) How much are tickets for the Sox game? Like walk up tickets.. because you make it sound like $5 is some huge deal when you can get a ticket to the Astros game for $7, and that's with no deals.. The cheapest Sox tickets you can get are upper deck reserved for $12 on a Monday. -
QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ May 11, 2011 -> 06:41 AM) I would try and call the company and explain the situation. I did this around Christmas this past year (just slipped my mind that the bill was due). I noticed it about 3 days afterwards and called the company and explained that I forgot, I was a customer in good standing who had always made my payments on-time, blah, blah, blah.....and they told me too bad. I proceeded to tell them I was going to have to cancel my card because this is not how you should treat good loyal customers. They transferred me to the cancellation department, where they asked me why I wanted to cancel the card. I told them the story, and they looked at my payment history, saw that I was never late, and proceeded to reverse all the late charges and interest. I had a similar situation a few month ago with my Discover card. Only difference is that I got it resolved with the first person I talked to. I've had my Discover since I was 18 and have never had a single problem with them. They even helped me to get rid of my AOL account and credited my money back to me after AOL continued to charge me when I had called repeatedly to cancel the service. We just recently used our cash back bonus award to pay our bill. The only complaint I have is that you have at least $50 in cash back bonus awards before you can use them. I have run into a handful of places that don't accept Discover as well. Also a few years back we had an incredible amount of debt and every time we started to come close to the limit on the card, they raised the limit. It was good that we didn't get charged fees for going over, but it was bad because we kept charging more. These days we pay the balance off every month.

QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) Hard to blame the 0-5 record on his pitching............... It just makes the point of why it's dumb to judge a pitcher based on wins. -
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 5, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) Look, who's to say 85 wins won't win the AL Central? That means they have to play at a .569 clip the rest of the way and I think they can do better than that. And I'll take my chances with our starting pitching in the playoffs. FWIW, the ALC division winner has never had less than 86 wins. Since 1996 the ALC division winners have averaged about 93 wins. Amazingly they've also never had more than 99 wins. The second place team has averaged about 85 wins. So at the very minimum they need to get to 86. If they go 82 - 49 (.626 winning %) the rest of the season they'll hit 93 wins. If they go 75 - 56 (.573 winning %) the rest of the season they'll hit 86 wins.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 5, 2011 -> 01:24 PM) Do you think they can recover enough to make the playoffs? Because if they can't, then there's not much of a reason to let it play out. I saw a graph that shows that 91 teams have started the season 11-21. Only 4 have even finished over .500 1989 Toronto Blue Jays: 89-73 1974 Pittsburgh Pirates: 88-74 1950 New York Giants: 86-68 1996 Boston Red Sox: 85-77

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 5, 2011 -> 11:29 AM) The part in this quote that bothers me the most is the part that mentions that these young women struggle to make ends meet. Yes, the kids in the real world, not on MTV, absolutely struggle to make ends meet. The girls on this show, not at all. First off, MTV pays them. And pays them well. Second off, these girls are cover girls. If you walk through any supermarket, you will see these girls on the cover of People, Star, Us, Teen magazine. They call the tabloids and get paid for photoshoots. MTV is making the problem worse by glamorizing the stars and enabling them. If MTV pays them they must not get the money until after filming. My wife and I actually got caught up in the first season of teen mom and the girls on there had plenty of struggles and not much money. One was even dumb enough to fall for a scam on Craigslist when she tried to sell her car.

QUOTE (oldsox @ May 5, 2011 -> 11:03 AM) No, but 6-8 years ago he was most likely a better hitter than he is now. His numbers from 6-8 years ago are almost the same as his numbers from last year.

I saw a sign on the back of a bus the other day that said "Drive now or text later. You can't do both." So I thought to myself well, if given the choice between the two, I'd better drive now. I'd better text now too since I won't be able to later.

QUOTE (Paint it Black @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) White Sox winning a game in Oakland? What is this I don't even. They SHOULD win 2 of 3 in Seattle. That offense is brutal. Minnesota's is worse. -

QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) well that typically happens when ur the worse team in baseball, you lose lol They weren't even the worst team until last night. -
IIRC, somebody posted this on WSI a long time ago. Just recently found it again. Guess it still fits... February: Spring training just started. Give them some time to get in shape. March: How can you complain about the Sox when they haven't even had a real game yet? April: It's only a few games into the season. Give the team a chance to get going before you criticize. May: It's still early in the season. Wait until summer gets here to judge them. June: You can't really gauge a team until the all-star break, so give them a break. July: Who knows what will happen at the trade deadline. Wait until you see what they pick up before you complain. August: Who knows what will happen at the waiver deadline. Wait until you see what they pick up before you complain. September: Oh sure, it's easy to complain in hindsight. Where were you before the season began? October: The offseason hasn't begun yet. Wait and see who they sign this offseason. November: It is still early in the offseason. Why jump out and sign a bunch of overpriced free agents? You can't buy a championship you know! December: Give them until Soxfest at least to make any big moves. January: Maybe you can at least wait until spring training begins to b**** about the team!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 3, 2011 -> 05:33 PM) Was actually going to ask in this thread if South Park last week was any good or not. I somehow forgot about it and have been waiting for it to show up OnDemand, no such luck yet. They put the episodes on their website the day after it airs.

QUOTE (scenario @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) I did a little digging a couple of years back to find all AJ incidents that could have classified him as a prick. I posted on Twins and Giants boards and asked for specific examples. The Giants incident you named above is the ONLY one anyone ever could come up with. And the only evidence that it ever happened was anecdotal. Several knowledgable fans I talked to said that never really happened. And that the real reason AJ was not liked is that the Giants had a clique of pitchers with fragile egos and AJ wouldn't kiss up to them. From the link in post #37: This is the first and only time I've heard of him confirming that it did in fact happen.

AL Central not going according to plan

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 29, 2011 -> 04:27 PM) I bet had you done this awhile ago instead of waiting for it to really piss off your neighbor, this wouldn't be an issue. It hadn't fallen over awhile ago. It happened within the last few days.
