  1. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 1, 2009 -> 09:03 AM) Personally I don't understand why they are rewarding people for getting 2 more MPG on their SUV's. If they really cared about the environment, they would only make SUV dumping people be eligible for buying a smaller car. Perhaps if they gave someone a $6000 credit for going from an SUV/Truck to something more compact, they would get more of these gas guzzlers off the road. A smaller car won't tow my trailer.
  2. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 02:30 PM) ... Well I at least sorta know Steff from the boards and a few Soxfests. Texsox, not so much. Finding either one of them on FB is another story.
  3. So uh... you guys want to join my mafia?
  4. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Mafia wars is fun as s*** actually. I never thought I would get into it but I actually have. I just hate the fact that you have to have XX number of people in your mafia to do certain things. I'm not the type to go out and friend 500 people I don't even know just to play that game. As of now, I'm stuck with just 19 mafia members.
  5. My oldest has a problem with back-talking. One day while we were leaving my parents house she was at it again and my wife was yelling at her about it. Finally I got tired of it and smacked her mouth and told her to knock it off. Not hard enough to hurt but enough to know that I was serious. It must have worked because we didn't hear a peep out of her the whole way home.

    Books Thread

I just finished "The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. I have to say I wasn't real impressed with it. I'm also reading "I am Legend". It's kinda interesting reading these two together because they are both post-apocalyptic stories. My parents just got two boxes full of books for free and asked me if I wanted any of them. I picked up a couple by Michael Crichton simply because I recognized his name. Don't remember the titles though. I'm a huge Stephen King fan and have read all his books. I've also got a handful of books from Dean Koontz (who I've heard many people compare to SK) but I haven't really found any by him that I really like.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 5, 2009 -> 11:56 AM) But they just said schools shouldnt close because of the swine flu. It was on CNN at lunch. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090505/ap_on_...ine_flu_schools
  11. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 4, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) Is it just me, or have people completely crossed the line with their cell phones? I know it's been this way for awhile, but I remember a time when taking a call or looking at s*** on your cell while you were at family functions, a party, dinner, etc was considered bad manners. I've got so many friends and family members who sit there staring at their cell phones while in a group... be they texting, or surfing the Web, or posting on f***ing Facebook. It's really out of hand. I've made a conscious effort to look at my phone less... but you almost feel less popular if you aren't texting every one of your friends every f***ing detail of your night and where you'll be... it's unbelievably annoying. Anyway, share your stories in this thread of cell phone rudeness and annoyance. Maybe I just lead a boring life but I just can't understand this need to put the details of every second of your life on the internet somewhere. I guess that's why I don't understand twitter either. The only time I'm on a computer is when I'm at work. I usually like to do other stuff when I'm at home. I also can't imagine how much battery life it takes to spend that much time on your phone either. I only have to charge mine once every 3 or 4 days. Sometimes I can make it last longer.
  12. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) I hate the media. A 22 month old dying from the flu was BREAKING NEWS today. I mean, it's sad that the kid didn't make it, but are you serious? It's because the kid died on US soil. If they would've kept the kid in Mexico, it wouldn't even be a story.
  13. Never did a dine and ditch but I've got some interesting stories anyway. Me and 7 of my friends went into a Denny's and all ordered water. One person ordered coffee. After about 20 minutes we were "politely" asked to leave. Paid with a $20 bill. Another time I went with a small group of friends after a night of drinking. They were toasted and I was completely sober. When the bill comes one of the guys pulls out his Discover and says that he'll take care of the bill. The next day he finds the receipt, calls up one of the other guys that was there and ask "Why do I have a reciept from Denny's for $60 in my wallet?"
  14. QUOTE (mreye @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 08:34 AM) I didn't think I was too bad until I stubbed my toe one day and said, "God damn motherf***ing f***ing s*** f***!" I try to tone it down more now. I stepped on a rake barefoot one time when I was about 12 or so and said almost the exact same thing. My friend was standing nearby when it happened and said "I've never heard you swear so much in your life!" I don't swear a hole lot and he and my wife both give me crap about it when I do. Another friend of my has a magnet that says "I don't have a swearing problem. I just like to say 'f***' a lot."

    Quick Question

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) So they don't try to track down which shop you went to, just say you paid a gearhead $100 to change it. That's what my gf did when her alternator had to be changed awhile ago. Didn't take long at all. Alternators are really easy to change. I don't think I've owned a car that I didn't have to change the alternator at least once. Three bolts and one wire clip and it's done.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 12:13 PM) There is a difference between hundreds of millions for bonuses paid to people who caused the problem, and $10M on offices that are part of normal operating business. This one doesn't upset me that much. If this is normal and they've already asked the government for help 3 times I think they may need to change what's "normal".
  18. QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 04:02 PM) Checkers. end of story. Checkers/Rally's burgers are awesome. I had forgotten how good they are until I had some on vacation last year.
  19. I like how they manage to unwrap the bar in like .02 seconds.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) U.S. Cellular Facing Pressure To Sell Welcome to Sprint Field Yuck. I've been with US Cellular since they were Cell One. I tried switching to Verizon for about a month. They are horrible, they lied about what deals they would give us and I'll never go back.
  21. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) WOW! I heard about this like a month or 2 months ago and nothing since, I assumed it had all blown over. yea, this family is seriously messed up. The story originated when a bakery wouldn't put a swastika on a kids birthday cake. The story I read said they wouldn't put his name on the cake. I never read anything about a swastika. I'm curious to know what these people did wrong to have their children taken away from them. They have yet to release that information. I can't imagine naming a kid Adolph Hitler = child abuse.
  22. QUOTE (qwerty @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 09:17 PM) There were many more morons on the bus than just that lunatic. The attempts to stop him were just pathetic. Pathetic is not even the right word. I think a full-nelson type move would have been useful.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Mar 6, 2009 -> 07:03 AM) Not all mechanics are bad, but there's a good reason I do 99% of my own work. Labor rates of $80/ hr+ are no fun. Same here. I'm always amazed at the prices I see for stuff when I can do it myself. Like $500+ for brakes on one axle when I just did it myself for $120.

QUOTE (mreye @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 10:08 AM) On the 4th try I finally got my boy! Andrew James (Yes, A.J.) was born at 4:50 this morning! Congrats! I had three chances at a boy but I struck out.
