One move...
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 10:58 PM) I'd love to get Ellsbury and Abreu. I'd wager heavily that Ellsbury reunites with Theo on the north side.

Kiley McDaniel's updated High School Top 100: http://sbb.scout.com/2/1331563.html If Alex Jackson shows signs he might be able to stick at catcher I have considerable interest. Also some local boys to take notice of. Might have to catch some High School Baseball this year. 71.) Jake Godfrey RHP - Providence Catholic (IL) - Notre Dame 72.) Brad Bass RHP - Lincoln-Way Central (IL) - Notre Dame 87.) Darius Day CF - Simeon (IL) - Arizona

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) Hawk just mentioned it during the broadcast. Certainly odd that he broke the news.

Erik Johnson versus Yordano Ventura is a pretty fun pitching matchup for us prospectors. Will watch.

What Does Pence Re-Signing Mean For Sox
Also, Pence receiving $90 million is kind of ridiculous. He just set the market and it makes even less sense for the White Sox to jump in on premier players at that price.

What Does Pence Re-Signing Mean For Sox
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 01:08 PM) The Pence signing means...uh...nothing. I don't think people realize where the Sox are right now. It's a terrible team that has little chance of even going .500 next year. The Sox just need to focus on acquiring as much young talent as possible, and once they get close to being good, then they can worry about signing guys like Pence or McCann. Pretty much my view. The window isn't there yet. They need to make smart signings/trades that make sense in the long term. Hahn pretty much reinforced this yesterday talking about creating a sustainable organization for the future and how much money they will have for the draft and international spending. He noted not to expect quick fix band-aid signing and the possibility of lesser short term deals as stop-gaps while they wait for prospects. I think Abreu makes sense and perhaps McCann, but that's it for the big names and I'm okay with that. I'm prepared to wait a year or three while they put themselves in a better position to compete again.

What Does Pence Re-Signing Mean For Sox
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 28, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) 5y/$90M for Hunter Pence I think is a precursor to how insane the money is going to be for the few worthwhile free-agents on the market. The Sox will be better off stying out of this market. I think the White Sox will be staying out of the top tier FA market period. Abreu, and some of the lesser free agent options sound the most realistic to me.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) Kolek looks really intriguing. Agreed. He could have Giolito-esque helium this season. (Before the injury of course.) I'm also starting to warm-up to Alex Jackson. Gatewood is really intriguing too, but a prep player with potential strikeout issues scares me with the organization's inability to develop similar players.

9/26 vs Royals
QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 10:02 PM) Now the question is, who do we pick? Rodon probably off the table Still obscenely early, but I'll throw out an Alex Jackson. Never too premature to start familiarizing yourself with names/players/positions.

2013 MLB Catch-All thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 24, 2013 -> 09:09 PM) Jesus Michael Wacha is good. I don't know how anybody hits him. He hides it well and he just throws darts. Watching on TV it looks like it's about 102 MPH I didn't like Wacha around draft time, but man he's something. I'm sure it doesn't hurt that the Cardinals organization can develop players with the best of them. Fun team with a bright future for sure.

9/21 at Tigers
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 21, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) I have a very hard time picturing McCann signing with a 100 loss team. I have a hard time picturing any of the premier free agents signing with a 100 loss team. While I'll still hope for Abreu, I imagine the Sox will be digging through the pile of bounce-back candidates. Short-term inoffensive signings that can provide value to the 2014 team or can be flipped at the deadline if/when the ship sinks. Something similar to many of the Cubs signings last offseason. And honestly, I'd be okay with such an approach.

Twins @ Sox 9/16
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 16, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) Glad the Sox lost and the Twins won yesterday. I have a feeling the Sox will sweep this series. But they'll still have a 3.5 game cushion for the 3rd pick with 10 games left. Go Cubs!

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 10:16 PM) I agree. I hate giving players his age long term contracts. 3 or 4 years would be reasonable, wouldn't it? Choo and Ellsbury are going to get paid this offseason. I'd be shocked if it's by the White Sox.

9/14 vs Indians
QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 08:44 PM) So Hawk is amusing himself by watching Tiger games. So was I. Great ending to that one. Tying run thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the 9th. I wouldn't mind seeing KC nab a wild card spot.

Your Realistic 2014 Lineup
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 14, 2013 -> 03:57 PM) I haven't read anyone suggesting Shin Soo Chu, in quite a while. Why aren't more of you advocating his acquisition? His contract hasn't been extended has it? He's an On Base machine, left handed and a very good outfielder. I'd prefer him to Pence, mainly because he's a LH hitter. Chu is really good against RHP, and as I have pointed out before, our Division has very few good LH pitchers. The Sox could use several bats that would be effective vs. some of the very good right handers on the Tigers and Indians. Choo.

9/10 vs Tigers
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Sep 10, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) So yeah, as I said last time, I'm still not impressed by Erik Johnson. Doesn't mean I think he's bad, or that he had no potential, but I mean from these 7 innings or whatever we have seen him pitch, I haven't thought he looks like a top prospect. He did drop a sick curveball to the #2 hitter for Detroit though on an 0-1 count. He threw a few sick cutters away to Miggy. I've seen some flashes so far. That being said I think their will be a learning curve as he adjusts to major leaguers laying off pitches that AAA players would be swinging at.
