  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 02:47 PM) The terrible record of the Sox means they have a very large pool of money to spend on international signings this year, something >$10 million IIRC It's probably closer to 5 million. Last year's top 5: 1. Astros $4,943,700 2. Cubs $4,557,200 3. Rockies $4,213,800 4. Twins $3,908,600 5. Indians $3,636,900

  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 4, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) #1) Granderson, when fully healthy and producing well, is a better player than De Aza. When he's at the point he's been the past 2-3 years, he's a marginal upgrade that will cost $10-14 mill a year more than De Aza. #2) His game is exactly like Dunn's. People who act like they are upset with Dunn because he's a DH or 1B are crazy. People are upset with Dunn because he's an all or nothing offensive player. Granderson has a bit of speed, but that doesn't do any good when he's striking out 170+ times. #3) I have strong, strong doubts as to whether or not the Sox will actually be involved. It's also sounding more and more like he will receive a qualifying offer costing the signing team a pick.
  4. BA Jeff Hoffman Article from ECU scout day. http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/eas...y-jeff-hoffman/ Certainly not out of the question he's available at 3.
  5. Sounds about right. This team isn't likely to be competitive this coming season. No need to for any dumb/exorbitant contracts. Make some trades, build internally, sign some scrap-heap guys that can be flipped at the deadline and go after some free agents next year and beyond.
  6. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Oct 30, 2013 -> 02:35 PM) That's exactly what I was thinking . While I was previously concerned with Lawrie's recent injuries , I'd be more than happy to give up Danks and his salary and Beckham and please give me a 23 yr. old Lawrie. More salary off the books = better chance to sign Ellsbury. This is precisely what Hahn has shown he wants to do. ML young ready talent just like A. Garcia. The White Sox are not going to sign Ellsbury...
  7. Meh. It's great that he's having some success, but the AFL is a notorious hitters league. I'll be much more encouraged if he starts hitting in full-season ball.
  8. I'd be somewhat interested in Bourjos. Pass on Trumbo and definitely not Conger.
  9. Sounds about right. Hopefully it breaks into the top 15 after the draft.
  10. One of my favorite prospects in this draft class that has been getting some hype lately is Hawaiian prep arm Kodi Medeiros. Good fastball, shows 2 plus secondaries, but an unconventional arm slot. Hoping he's available in the second round but I wouldn't bet on it. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....rticleid=22115# http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/kodi-...owd-at-jupiter/
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Not sure what qualifications this site brings, but they have Turner dropping to 12. http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft Not very qualified, but it does show how volatile and early things are. Other than Rodon at the top right now, opinions do and will differ.
  12. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) Top 5 picks listed are.... Rondon, Hoffman, Jackson, Gatewood, OF Braxston Davidson. Jackson is the one I want, but the blurp says he is likely to end up in RF like Harper. Has elite bat speed and above-average power to all fields. Trea Turner is #15, Beede is #18, I'm big on Jackson too. He sounds very Wil Myers-eque. Especially with the move off C to OF.
  13. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 26, 2013 -> 02:15 AM) Top 5 picks listed are.... Rondon, Hoffman, Jackson, Gatewood, OF Braxston Davidson. Rodon. Sorry. Pet Peeve.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Sox don't need pitching right now. You can get pitching in the later rounds. You don't draft for need. You take the BPA. If Hoffman is available at 3 and is clearly thought more highly of than Turner by the Front Office, he should be picked.

    QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 20, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) The onus to trade a starting pitcher dissipated a ton with the signing of Abreu. Unless the right deal comes up involving the right catcher or 3B, we aren't dealing young starting pitching anymore. Huh? Why has it dissipated? This team still has plenty of holes and a surplus of pitching. I fully expect a starter to be dealt.

    QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2013 -> 02:29 PM) I think he's a big sleeper for the Sox who could allow us for ability in trades from our position of strength. Would like to see a one year deal with a team option. What'da ya think, SoxTalk? I think he could be a great buy low candidate looking to re-establish value. Let Coop take a crack at him. Could be flipped at the deadline for value if he bounces back and the Sox aren't in it.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:59 PM) Rangers-bound, IMO Or Boston. Or NY. Then the runner ups go after Salty. I don't think either are in the cards for the White Sox.
  18. QUOTE (daggins @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) I doubt Grandy would get this kind of money, or this many years. I like Granderson, and the problem with Abreu is that he is a total unknown at the MLB level. Grandy will also likely get a qualifying offer which would cost the Sox a draft pick for signing him.
  19. QUOTE (flavum @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:20 PM) Also have to like the overall presence the Sox are starting to make internationally. Wilder buried them for years. Wilder buried them in the Dominican. Cuba not so much.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) The sox were in it if it stayed below 80 which they thought it would. This was plan A this offseason. It's a great signing for a team in their position. I expect some pitching surplus to be traded next for a another position player that could be added to the core for the long-term.
  21. Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 1m White Sox will still look to add catching depth and could make moves via trade. But this will be cornerstone of rebuild/reshape Expand
  22. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) Its 50/50 white sox or rangers right now according to SB Nation SB Nation is just a community website. A glorified message board. It isn't a source.
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFan05 @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 08:36 PM) http://www.lonestarball.com/2013/10/17/485...gers-jose-abreu That's just the SB Nation Rangers page with a post referencing Sullivan.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:48 PM) It seems hard to believe the Sox would ever draft a high school pitcher that high. Agreed. I'm a fan of his though.
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 07:14 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/201...3-carlos-rodon/ Kolek hype.
