  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) The Sox need a star offensive player in his 20's more than anything. Hopefully he's that guy the second half of this decade. Agreed. That's why part of me is hoping for Dominic Smith this Thursday. Two young, potent hitting prospects that would be on similar timetables if they panned out.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Hawkins-- 2nd homer of the night! https://twitter.com/EvanLepler/status/342089530721071104 Please be good, please be good, please be good. The power is legit. Just need to rein in the strikeouts and the Sox potentially have something to dream on here.
  3. I'm okay with JP Crawford. Not sold on Tim Anderson though. Still keeping the fingers crossed someone falls that is too good to pass up as stated in my earlier post.
  4. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA Still think college arm. Maybe Trey Ball if there. @professorfog: #ChiSox still on college pitching? Anything new? #mlbdraft Collapse Reply Retweet Favorite More Trey Ball want.

  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) I supported the move when it was made. Unfortunately, locking up starting pitching is extremely risky. Yep. It was a perfectly defensible extension. Pitchers get injured. It happens.
  7. Jim Callis ‏@jimcallisBA Don't think quite that far. Think #Phillies & @WhiteSox would be tempted. @rosinbagger5: can Stanek fall to #Cardinals? #mlbdraft Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More

  9. That was one hell of an at bat. Impressive.
  10. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) No it won't. He's still going top 3. Adderall and stim use amongst college baseball players isn't outside the norm. He still has top of the rotation potential. In fact, Law speculates Gray could be more attractive to the Astros and the Cubs as a positive test could prompt him to sign for a discount. This freeing up allotted slot money to use with picks later in the draft.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) Wow, that could blow up the draft. No it won't. He's still going top 3. Adderall and stim use amongst college baseball players isn't outside the norm. He still has top of the rotation potential.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) They're a gamble, that's for sure. But since Laumann said he doubts there will be a pitcher left at 17 better than Chris Beck or Erik Johnson, I wouldn't mind a gamble pick on high school catcher or pitcher. Actually, as long as it isn't the Stanford guy, I'm not going to think one way or the other about this first round pick. I'm mostly hoping that someone just falls into the Sox lap that shouldn't be there. Similar to what happened with Sale and Hawkins. I'd really love Trey Ball to have an inexplicable fall personally. Peterson, Stanek, Smith, or Renfroe are also players I'm sure the Sox would jump all over if they fall for some reason.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:48 AM) Keith Law has his Mock Draft 3.0 up on espn.com He has White Sox taking JUCO SS Tim Anderson. Tim AndersonPOS: SSB/T: R/RHT: 6-1WT: 180School: East Central CC Analysis: The team that spent a 2003 first-round pick on Brian Anderson is also on Chris Anderson, Louie Anderson, Laurie Anderson, and Aaron Judge. Both Tim Anderson and Judge are White Soxy picks. Athletic toolsy dudes that could have pretty high ceilings if those tools are turned into skills. One a premium speed guy, another that could have significant power. I'm still kind of on the college pitching train this year. There is pretty good depth there, and it's one area the White Sox actually seem to be adequate at developing. I like Alex Gonzalez and Stanek personally. Chris Anderson would be okay too.
  14. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 04:53 PM) Have we signed anybody in the past couple years worth noting or watching at all? http://www.southsidesox.com/minors/2013/6/...er-league-opens
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 06:56 PM) Send him to AAA and stretch him out for when Peavy is traded. Sounds about right.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) I have always been intrigued by Wilson. I liked him a lot coming out of HS. He's big and could be a star if he reaches his potential. It's tough to tell with Stanford hitters though because that coaching staff makes position players look for contact and hit line drives. Actually, from what I've been told Stanford largely left Wilson alone regarding his mechanics. He isn't subject to the notorious Stanford Swing. Just not sold on him. I prefer Judge to him currently.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 09:51 AM) Just heard on ESPN 1000, the ChiSox are into college pitchers and toolsy outfielders at pick #17. Jim Callis said they'd take Ryne Stanek if he falls or Alex Gonzalez from Oral Roberts who they scouted. Also have ties to Aaron Judge, Austin Wilson, and Phillip Ervin. Stanek is the most unrealistic choice, but he's probably my favorite. I'm not a fan of any of those outfielders personally. Especially Wilson. Stanek would be a great get if he falls. I also really like Gonzalez but it sounds like he isn't getting past Arizona. I wouldn't be surprised if the White Sox nab Dominic Smith if he falls, but once again he probably won't get past Philly.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ May 31, 2013 -> 11:25 AM) Anderson seems like a safe pick, with a floor of a bullpen guy and a ceiling as 3-4 in the rotation. Manaea probably returns to school at this point, unless the Astros take him in the second round and use their extra slot money to sign him. Baseball America's newest mock as of yesterday afternoon still have the Sox on Anderson.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 30, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) Thing about Manaea is that he can go back to college and re-enter next year. I imagine if he falls to us he'll just try to get healthy for 2014. Yep. He has leverage. He also has Boras as an agent.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ May 27, 2013 -> 10:01 PM) Phegley has a lot more to prove in AAA. Look at his career statistics. He's had a lot to overcome and has been aggressively promoted, but that doesn't mean he doesn't need more seasoning. Give him at least another month before bringing him up. This. Dude doesn't have much of a track record. Let's see if he can continue to hit. He's not going to be wowing anyone defensively (not that Flowers is). Be patient. Phegley could be a nice surprise, but he's not the White Sox savior this year. They are going to give Flowers some more time in a down year, as they should.
  21. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 25, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) Bassitt Jaye.
  22. Nice throw. But ugh, Paciorek seems to magnify Hawk's awfulness. Stone provides a good counterpoint, but Wimpy just encourages more of what makes Hawk so bad.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) Anderson seems like a solid pick. Fastball up to 95mph with 3 above average pitches supposedly. He's pitched really well as the season has gone on, including a few 13 strikeout games. It's too bad he didn't get to face FSU or Florida when Jacksonville played them. I like Anderson as well. I'm also a fan of Marco Gonzales but he might be a bit of a reach at 17.
