  1. Nice throw. But ugh, Paciorek seems to magnify Hawk's awfulness. Stone provides a good counterpoint, but Wimpy just encourages more of what makes Hawk so bad.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) Anderson seems like a solid pick. Fastball up to 95mph with 3 above average pitches supposedly. He's pitched really well as the season has gone on, including a few 13 strikeout games. It's too bad he didn't get to face FSU or Florida when Jacksonville played them. I like Anderson as well. I'm also a fan of Marco Gonzales but he might be a bit of a reach at 17.

  4. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ May 13, 2013 -> 10:32 PM) Indeed sir! Hey weren't people saying he looked like s*** this spring, especially behind the plate? What's up with all that? He has a good arm. That's about it. He isn't a very good receiver at all. If the bat is legitimate you live with his defensive deficiencies.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 13, 2013 -> 09:45 PM) If the Twins find some pitching, then I would tend to agree with you. Twins having maybe 2 of the 3 best hitting prospects in baseball really allow them to focus on acquiring pitching going forward. They're almost the opposite of the Sox in this way. Supposedly they are looking at pitching with the 4th pick this year. Appel and Gray will obviously be gone, but Kohl Stewart could be a real nice consolation prize. Ace upside but further away obviously. The Twins farm system has restocked nicely as you noted. Buxton and Sano are drool-worthy prospects. As far as pitchers, Kyle Gibson is legit and close to the Bigs. Alexy Meyer could be real good. Berrios looks great but is far away. Trevor May is interesting too.
  6. The fact that Aaron Judge hasn't been able to show much in-game power worries me. Especially considering the track record of the White Sox with position prospects. He sounds like he might be a reach at 17 too.
  7. Evidently the pregame team meeting that Robin held didn't do much.
  8. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ May 11, 2013 -> 06:39 PM) I watched a little bit of Oklahoma RHP Jonathan Gray, maybe the top prospect in the draft, pitch today against Oklahoma State. While, he clearly didn't have his best stuff today, his fastball is plus plus. He was humming them in there in the high 90s and he made it look so easy. Big guy too. I like him more than Appel, he's a fun one to watch. Will probably be seeing him on the North Side not too far down the road.
  9. Mr. Beck, strikeout more batters please. Thank you.
  10. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 11, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) Any chance DJ Peterson, Jon Denney or Colin Moran falls to us? Also, I want nothing to do with JP Crawford. I really see him as a low ceiling guy. Peterson and Denney might be around. Moran won't be.
  11. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 10, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Latest SI Mock is the second I;ve seen predicting Dominic Smith for the Sox. Not sure how I feel about that. Seems like a good chance that Stanek drops, is he worth the risk? I'd love Stanek. He was considered a top 5 pick early this year. Stuff has been down a bit and some command issues, but he probably has the highest upside of the college arms that might be available at 17. Similar things could be said about Manaea if he fell that far. Rogers reiterated today that the Sox would love for Trey Ball to fall to them. I'd echo that sentiment, but kid has some major helium lately.
  12. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 9, 2013 -> 09:55 AM) From what I've been gathered, the arm is Phegley's only real asset at catcher. Pretty bad at everything else that is inherent to catching. That being said, if he has all of a sudden figured it out and continues to hit like this, the White Sox will live with his defensive deficiencies behind the plate. JJ Cooper ‏@jjcoop36 11m Very good arm, struggles as a receiver RT @professorfog: @jjcoop36 How it Josh Phegley defensively at catcher? Expand Reply Retweet Favorite More
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 9, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) The Sox don't pick HS pitchers. They also don't pick high school hitters with 1st round picks. But that changed last year. And for what it's worth they had picked a high school pitcher much more recently than a high school bat. Gio was 2004, but supplemental if you want to get picky. Honel in 2001 was a 1st rounder. As for hitters, the last Prep Bat the White Sox popped with an early pick was Brett Caradonna in 1997, and that was supplemental. The White Sox are also very much linked to Trey Ball this draft, another prep arm. The outlook seems to have changed a bit recently, so I wouldn't be so dismissive.
  14. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ May 9, 2013 -> 07:22 AM) You haven't read many accounts then. "Defensively, Phegley has a very strong and accurate throwing arm. His arm strength is probably his best and most advanced tool. Last season at Triple-A, he threw out 46 percent of would-be basestealers, an extremely high number. Phegley's defense earned him a Rawlings Gold Glove Award. When I saw him play, he was a bit stiff in his overall movements, but he blocked balls in the dirt and his overall mechanics were solid. So far this season, Phegley has thrown out 56 percent of would-be basestealers." http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ws&c_id=cws From what I've been gathered, the arm is Phegley's only real asset at catcher. Pretty bad at everything else that is inherent to catching. 15. Kiley McDaniel has his first mock up. http://sbb.scout.com/2/1289798.html I'd be very okay with this. Solid pick and the possibility of saving some money to nab some better talent on later picks. More or less what the Astros did last year.
  16. Despite the loss, that was quite the entertaining game. Harvey is fantastic to watch. Santiago was no slouch either. Good times.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ May 7, 2013 -> 06:17 PM) I honestly don't think the benefit of moving up 10 spots in the draft is worth removing any chance of competing. There are frequently really great players available all over the first round, not to mention throughout the draft. There is generally a large difference in drafting 7th versus 17th.
  18. I'm still bewildered at the decision to walk the feeble Chris Getz.
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 5, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) Sadly, it really seems it's for the best. Yep. A rebuild is long overdue.
  20. And with that, it's time to press the Mute Hawk button.
