Lane signed. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 30, 2011 -> 11:45 AM) Yes. And he was a butcher before that as well. His defense is not good.

White Sox vs Rockies 7:40 CT first pitch

Holy misread Alex. -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 29, 2011 -> 10:57 AM) The situation is mind-boggling to say the least. It really isn't. Teams play the service time game all the time. I find more fault with the Sox calling up Viciedo last year where he accrued 83 days of service time while primarily sitting on the bench.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 27, 2011 -> 10:54 AM) This deserves its own topic. Great to see a high pick moving through the system nicely. While doing well in Kanny is an accomplishment, performing in W-S will be much more indicative of Petricka's talent level.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 23, 2011 -> 07:55 PM) Oh yeah he definitely has a legitimate excuse for coming out of the gate slowly. I'm pleased that the current consensus is that he can stick at SS. Opinion was very divided initially.
-
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 09:58 AM) Why? How much have you watched him play? Haven't watched him at all. I'm going off the opinion of professionals that do watch him though.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 21, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) "45 days on the active roster." ^^ That.
-
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:40 PM) Well that and 30+ stolen bases. Kuhn will never do that. I don't buy Kuhn's defense either.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 20, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) I'd assume it's an eligibility issue. He's no longer eligible to win rookie of the year, which is what a lot of publications use. It absolutely is. I've repeated it many times. Due to how long he was on 25 man last year his rookie eligibility has been used up and thus he isn't eligible for almost all the "Top Prospect" lists. For reference: Editor's note: To be eligible for the Top 50 list, players must have rookie eligibility. To qualify for rookie status, a player must not have exceeded 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the Major Leagues, or accumulated more than 45 days on the active roster of a Major League club or clubs during the 25-player limit period, excluding time on the disabled list or in military service.)

6/17 GT SOX @ D'Backs - 8:40pm CDT - CSN

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) We're watching this impotent offense night after night while stiffs like Pierre and Rios are trotted out there night after night and KW can't even bring Viciedo up from Charlotte because our moronic asshole of a manager can't figure out where to play him! They can't give Viciedo a chance yet Beckham can continue to stink the place up with his ridiculous swing and Rios can stink the place up with his ridiculous batting stance while Greg Walker is given another vote of confidence. And Juan Pierre can suck on offense, suck on defense, and suck on the basepaths yet lead off every game night after night. f*** JR, KW, Ozzie and the rest. I'll laugh at them when the Cubs sweep the Sox at the Cell in front of nightly crowds of 25,000 next week. You just don't understand Kenny's master plan. Viciedo being a young, cost-controlled prospect with potential, will be traded for a questionable veteran iteration that costs 10 times as much and is only under team control for 1.5 years. Win now. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 10:56 PM) How much longer to we have to watch Alex Rios? He is total garbage. That Anthopoulos is a wizard. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) Ha, only if we want to shut him down after 140 innings, while he gets hammered in the meantime. I got grilled for saying Sale NEEDED to be starting in the minors THIS YEAR, but alas, I was in the minority. I felt exactly the same. I hate him in the bullpen. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:47 PM) Daniel Hudson is just a really good pitcher. He will end up with an ERA around 3.3 this year. Arizona is an exciting team Agreed. I haven't had much of a chance to watch them this year, but the future looks bright. They are loaded with young pitching. Skaggs, Holmberg, Bauer, and Bradley. Good for them. -

QUOTE (bulokis @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:28 PM) We are paying ejax how much? That is definitely a head scratcher. KW hates young, inexpensive pitchers hehe. Kenny hates the adjustment/acclimation period that is inherent with most prospects. Rare is the rookie who can step in and hit the ground running to produce great results immediately. The ones that do are few and far between. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:05 PM) Lol, what? Not only is there 0% chance Kenny will get fired mid-season, but Ozzie is the problem, not Kenny. Kenny isn't absolved of all blame. I have issues with both. -
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) I haven't seen him play much in the outfield. however, it sounds like we're looking at Carlos Lee part 2. A guy converted to the outfield because he couldn't play third. He'll hit alot of HR's, have a great arm but drive use crazy running around in the outfield. Very likely. Like I said passable is probably his defensive ceiling. He had fall-down range at 3B. That said as a total package he's a significant upgrade over Juan Pierre.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) It's difficult to go from minor league stats or anything like that, but he's not, as far as I know, known to be slow. He also definitely has a shotgun for an arm, which is a nice thing to have on a guy if his range isn't the best. Goldstein has noted his range is unimpressive as one would imagine. I don't think anyone should expect great defense from him. Passable is what I'm eventually expecting.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) Well you have said on multiple occassions that there is absolutely no one doing good in our minor leagues, to which I've responded "What about Viciedo? Reed? Petricka? Kuhn? Wilkins? and a couple others. Kuhn as many said is seen as a utility guy. Reports on his defense aren't great either. Wilkins really isn't impressive at all: .253/.333/.433. Dayan and Reed are alright though. Petricka needs to perform at a more age appropriate level, and right now his injury is preventing this. He's headed to Great Falls to rehab next.

no faith and no patience in this organization
DirtySox replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2011 -> 09:40 AM) I really don't understand how Viciedo isn't thought of as a top 10-20 prospect in baseball. It's because he isn't eligible for most prospect lists. His rookie status was exhausted last year. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:12 PM) Petricka could be close, but the lack of a promotion to High-A followed by his injury stops that. Indeed. Also the fact that Holmberg is only 19 in Low-A whereas Petricka is 23.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:41 PM) Would Holmberg be our #1 pitching prospect? I would imagine so. I think Reed would be his only real competition, and he's a reliever.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 10:29 PM) KW has truly sodomized this organization with his horrific and short-sighted moves the last 3+ years. I truly think a rebuild is in the cards sometime in the near future. Not sure I would want Kenny in charge of it though.
