  1. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 24, 2017 -> 04:56 PM) Dahl + Hoffman is a start, but significantly more would have to be added to that deal I agree with add in Rodgers and we'd be moving closer to a deal What are you smoking, Steve? Rockies are not going to do that. No way.
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) Last year at Charlotte Garcia hit .313 and Peter hit .259 so I am not sure Peter easily beats him out. And Coats hit over .330 with some pop. He gawn.
  3. QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 05:37 PM) Jeez, a lot of you guys need to just take a deep breath and let the baseball off season do it's thing. It's been very slow, we have no idea what offers Hahn *really* has on the table right now. I'm not sure, but I highly doubt that most GMs are sitting here working tooth and nail over a trade every single day of the off season. Just let things be, it's still January, only. I think the Freedom of Information Act should apply here.
  4. QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jan 22, 2017 -> 07:03 PM) They were never trading Moncada and Devers together because that creates a hole they can't fill internally at 3B. I'm surprised they didn't offer Frazier with Sale to try to get Devers added. Devers. One thing that always puzzled me on the Boston trade was that if DD insisted on taking Devers off the table, why didn't Sox get them to include another third baseman like Dalbach instead of Diaz, or in addition to Diaz.
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 08:51 AM) Number 10 Little depth beyond top 8. Sox prospects generally had bad years last year. Which again stresses point- Sox have to do better with their own drafting, developing and signing internationally for this to work. Padres number 3- quite a recovery after Preller's first year clown show. Hahn helped a little bit with the Tatis/Shields swap.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 09:51 PM) We've been hearing this same 'ol stuff out of Colorado since Mark Hampton and Darryl Kile. Those guys were pre-humidor. Q would be great for Rockettes.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) From all I have seen, its been noted that the Rockies have very little interest in Q because they don't think that his pitching style will play well in their stadium. They had concerns about how the altitude would lessen the break of his curve ball and that he doesn't strike enough guys out to fit what works there. Posturing.
  8. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jan 18, 2017 -> 09:03 PM) Alex Rodriguez was a better SS than Vizquel. He played 3B to be on a winner, but he was an incredible shortstop. Arod and Omar should have been on the same team for years (Seattle). Omar was just coming into his own when Seattle signed Arod, so they traded Omar to Cleveland in what is one of the most one-sided trades of all time. Mariners got some horrible shortstop who lasted one year - can't remember his name - who could neither hit or field, and Omar went on to a fabulous career. Joey Cora was the guy who filled in at SS before Arod took over in 1995, I believe. Omar was tremendous, and he broke Aparicio's record for most games played at Short. He needs to be in the Hall.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 19, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I always viewed his combination of defensive and offensive ability as putting him amongst the elite at the game. I thought he had a run where he was the best CFer in baseball (after Griffey went to Cincy). I remember when Bobby Cox pulled A Jones out of centerfield in the middle of an inning for dogging it on three separate plays in one game. Cox had seen enough.
  10. I saw Raines play at AAA in Denver. Talk about a "Can't Miss" prospect. Then Expos called him up and put him in outfield. I always felt he should have stayed at second base, at least in those early years. It would have saved his legs from that horrible turf in Montreal. If he had stayed at second, he would have had even greater numbers and would have gone in earlier. IMO.
  11. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) I voted that he won't be traded and I voted that I want him to go to the Rockies. Rockies. In addition to Rodgers, their best prospect, another great prospect is 19 year old 3rd Sacker Colton Welker. Rated # 18 or so by Rox, this guy had big year in Pioneer League as 18 year old. Interesting write-up in Purple Row today.
  12. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jan 16, 2017 -> 01:28 AM) I would say Courtney Hawkins, unless you mean rushed to the majors, in which case Beckham was not a failed prospect, but certainly fell short of expectations he set after his rookie year. Nonsense. After 5 years, he strikes out waaay too much. He is not nearly good enough, never really was.
  13. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 15, 2017 -> 04:22 PM) I have really developed a love of the Braves position player prospects and the idea of getting two, perhaps even three, of them is something that (I hope) will take at least the inclusion of Meadows from the Pirates or Torres from the Yankees to beat. I have compared the stats of the top prospects from all the mentioned teams, and IMO the best numbers belong to the Cubs' prospects. Unfortunately. Just numbers, obviously, since I haven't seen them play.
  14. Rays pick up Coats on Waivers. They got a bargain. We get whatshisname.
  15. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 05:14 PM) Kopech is easily 2+ years away from being mlb ready Right now he really needs to work on maturity, control and his secondary pitches. He has not pitched many minor league innings and still is pretty raw overall. He has quite a bit of ability, but he also might be the most likely to bust of our pitching prospects. Kopech dominated in A+ last year and is slated for AA this year, which hopefully means AAA next year, or earlier. He is mature; just look at his hair.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 05:13 PM) So basically the article is showalter saying they want another LH hitter but then the reporter showing how terrible they were vs LH pitching  But either way Melky is a switch hitter, does not strike out much (which showalter mentiones) and is a terrible fit in basically every other way. He hustles.
  17. Let me gets this straight......Astros value Archer over Q, correct?
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:16 AM) I'll never forget Nestor Molina. Where did he come from? Yankees?
  19. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) His approach seems to be very conservative. I'm not as high on kopeck as most are. He has shown immaturity, but the plus arm strength is tantalizing if he can improve his secondary offerings and command. He will need at least two full minor league seasons of development, likely three. Nobody knows if Collins can stick at catcher, but there is not much doubt the bat can play at the MLB level. Hawkins is a bust. That's pretty definitive. I remember three years ago when everyone here loved him and had him #1 on their prospect lists, and I objected and was, of course, roundly criticized. Glad to see someone agreeing with me, although I never used the "bust" word. If I had, I might have been banned for heresy.
  20. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 01:44 AM) I don't know about you all but I sure am glad we have James Shields. $25 Million doesn't go as far as it used to.
  21. Coats: 330/394/579/912. 10 HR 69/25 K/W. Garcia: 245/293/366/659. 6 HR 131/31 K/W They played in the same league. Sox always need hitters, so which one do we take? Coats has hit at every level. When he gets promoted, he falls back a little, then gets going at new level. Give him the opportunity. No, we will give the opportunity to some clown who has never really hit, but who has a lot of outfield assists. Makes sense to me. Gotta sign Willy and his assist machine. Gotta cut somebody. Let's cut a guy who can hit. Not Leury Garcia, who can neither hit (in majors) or throw out anybody from the outfield. Not one of three catchers who will have no offensive impact on the team, and who would have cleared waivers. Not Avi or Lawrie. Not one of several pitchers who you can just tell have no place in the long term scheme of things. This decision was probably made by the same guy who traded away Tatis on a re-building team for Shields and his big game contract.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 10:12 PM) Because throw-hard no-control relievers can turn into throw-hard good-enough-control relievers who become valuable assets to teams in the late innings and on the trade market. Nate Jones was a throw-hard no-control reliever. Now he's the most valuable piece in the White Sox bullpen and probably their best reliever. What is Jason Coats realistically going to turn into? Probably a 4th outfielder at his ceiling. That's a nice player to have in the system as a depth player. If Coats passes through waivers, he's gonna get a chance to make a name for himself, I guarantee that. If he doesn't, he won't?? Or, you won't?
  23. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) Coats always screamed AAAA player. I wouldn't be surprised to see him get through waivers. Solid move to trade him for a toolsy younger OF'er. They both played in AAA last season. Compare the numbers.
