QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:12 AM) While the last sentence may be true, the rest of this post wholesale ignores the past few years of history. You have a different crowd making most of the decisions now, and you can see in who they've drafted that their style has changed noticeably. Same head scout Laumann for several years until a few months ago.....

QUOTE (beautox @ Sep 8, 2015 -> 10:33 AM) Hes only 20 and a switch hitter on top of that. Power is usually the last tool to develop its even more pronounced in switch hitters. I think the sox will be aggressive and push him to AA next year. Hes also more of a natural hitter from the right side. That's the way it was for Arenado. And, I think RBI is an important stat. It has something to do with coming through with men on base. It's a skill. Arenado had it in low minors, also.

Fields was a much better hitter, majors or minors. Especially minors. Better football player, too. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 09:26 AM) FYI, the Great Falls games last night were an absolute blast. Did they recognize you?

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) I think cooper needs to go more than Williams or Hahn. You have a point, for sure. Still, if just one of the three had to go, I would vote for Kenny.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:10 PM) The Indians logo on the sleeve is kind of offensive. I'd think it's way worse than Washington's Redskins. You don't hear as much about Cleveland needing to get rid of Chief Wahoo. That's because the Cleveland logo is not as offensive as the Washington team name.

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 7, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Is Johnson even up yet? Still playing at Charlotte earlier today.

Could White Sox trade some pitching to fill other areas in offseason

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) Cespedes has been one of the premier defensive LF (according to uzr) every year but 2012. The OBP is low but he has hit 20+ homers and doubles every year since he entered the league. I think he profiles as a .275/.320/.480 guy in the Cell with 25 homers/doubles and 10+ steals. I think he has a rep as a bad defender for some reason but stats prove he is a very good outfielder. "Prove" is wrong word. They don't prove a thing in this case. -
Viciedo with 3 more hits, now at .336. Some team will pick him up if Sox don't promote him.

Geez, did anyone see this one coming? Their offensive numbers are virtual carbon copies of each other; Zangori is only 18, while Seba Zavala is 22. If either one of these sluggers would have been a #1 draft pick, they would be at or near the top of (almost) everyone's prospect list. I know it is early in their careers, but they have the best pro starts of any of our prospects since Courtney Hawkins. Can't wait to see how they do next year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Regarding futility of Robin ... until there's an obvious choice to replace him maybe the Sox should keep him another year. I mean does anybody really want a replacement of Dave Martinez, Alomar, Buddy Bell? These are the 3 we'd probably get as our leading candidates. I'd take Gardy right now but the Sox really don't have any good options out there. If Robin gets canned I'd be OK with a one-year deal for Ripken or Thome or somebody like that waiting until somebody good gets fired and emerges. I know you guys get mad at me for suggesting oldies, but what about Leyland for a one-year deal or LaRussa for one year or even Lasorda one year? Lasorda is in the HOF. He promised not to ever put the uniform on again as Mgr. Of course, you were kidding anyway, right? -

Was this caused by Cubs signing RP Rodney? -
Johnson, Montas, Brantly, & Leury Garcia recalled.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) Why? He not only is probably not ready, but if you bring him up, he would take up a spot on the 40 man roster next year, which means Sox would have to lose an unknown player, probably a pitcher, and that pitcher would then go on to win a Cy Young award. -
What is RV's current contract status?

I've been thinking about this topic for a few days now. I remember when Sox traded for Larry Doby, can't remember when, sometime in early 60's I believe. Anyway, he got off to a bad start, and he was booed big time. It was pretty ugly, actually. He had his unique reaction to the booing. Obviously, the slump ended and he played pretty well, and he was embraced, sort of. I'm not saying he was the most hated in Sox history, not even close, but Doby received some pretty intense booing.

That 9th inning error by Seattle SS Miller......he must have learned that underhand throw from Cano. A bit tougher from short.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 12:04 PM) How about the Illini's futility under Tim Beckman? Yeesh. 12-25? Did you know he had been fired when you posted this? Just now read about it. -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 09:52 AM) Hard to believe that Leury is only 24, actually a few months younger than Micah. Leury surprised a lot of people this year, hitting close to .300 at Charlotte.

There are a couple of pretty good articles on the Mariners firing the GM in ESPN.com. I didn't know that they had just extended him last August (2014).

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 09:33 PM) Alexei swings 1-0 and Sanchez swings 3-1 in the rain is just dumb dumb baseball . The pitcher has to throw a ball that's hard to keep dry , he pitched last night , gave up hits the previous inning , walked LaRoche this inning and the ump isn't giving him the high strike. He's struggling and swinging just bailed him out in counts in the hitters favor. Yeesh ! Make him throw strikes ! Where is the coaching to tell them all that prior to the inning starting and after LaRoche walked on a high strike that wasn't called, same as Eaton the previous inning. Don't they have a take sign from the 3rd base coach ? All 3 swings were out of the strike zone. Alexei's swing at 1-0 was on a ball high (that he popped up ) and the 2 by Sanchez on the 3-1 count were low and in. Strike 2 and 3 game over. This is the kind of post that should be public, in a newspaper, or, at least reframed as a question to RV postgame. There were a couple of great 8th inning AB's, then they turned to mush in the 9th.

At least Melky hustles, unlike that moron Cespedes. Anyone see the non-play he made for Mets yesterday that cost them the game? -
Probably a few minor league vets like Leury Garcia, Carroll, Brantley. They are all on the 40 Man, as are Junior Guerro and Montas. Not exactly a boatload of young, major league-ready prospects.
