2016 Steamer Projections and the Reality of this Offseason
oldsox replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 23, 2015 -> 06:44 AM) Not whining at all, simply making an observation in regards to the amount of work they need to do. Their projections wont really change from now until April, so again, your point is kind of moot. Of course teams can overperform and underperform their projections, most of the time they end up being relatively accurate though. If you are so angsty over random threads trying to spark discussion during the offseason, maybe it's time you step away from the keyboard for awhile chief. fat chance. -
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) I am surprised the Sox would be willing to hire someone like Alomar as bench coach. He paid his dues as an organizational coach before joining a Major League staff for the past few years. I was really hoping we would hire a guy straight from coaching high school baseball to an important position. ala the Rockies.

Lipster, please don't try to convince me that trading Aparicio was wise. Please.
-
Surprised we have two third basemen on the team.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 03:26 PM) And at 22.7M, Hanley is just... Hanley. All things being equal I'll take one year of Valbuena over Hanley, his salary and s*** for defense. Since you have it all figured out, where do the Astros play Lowrie whom is also a 3B? He's under contract through '17 and is not going to sit on the bench for the 14M he is owed during the next two seasons. Again, Houston has no reason or need to trade for Hanley. In an effort to steer this back on track. What is your trade proposal with Boston that brings Hanley to the White Sox? I think he said LaRoche for Hanley + cash. Then, someone else pointed out that Bosox do not need LaRoche, even a good LaRoche, and I agree.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 12, 2015 -> 01:13 PM) It may be possible. I think a veteran NL player needs time to adjust to AL pitching. There is no adjustment. Increased interleague play has taken care of that, plus all the FA and trade movements, same umpires, etc. American league is just the superior hitting league right now.

Hanley Ramirez/Manny Ramirez. No thanks, unless they throw in Benintendi.

White Sox official website has a possible Quintana trade chip post

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 04:06 PM) Q for Betts or Q for Moncada and Margot would be what I'd look at. Bosox love Betts; they would never trade him one for one for Q. -
White Sox have worked out Eddy Julio Martinez twice or more

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 10:01 PM) Well they do go over budget IMO when spending on veteran NL talent. Great post. That says it. -

Did word of this signing interrupt Hahn's afternoon nap? -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 11:33 PM) Q for Arenado Nitetrain is correct: Not Happening. Still, the Rockies can be a suitable trading partner. They need pitching badly, and they are under a lot of pressure to improve. Also, they have trading assets. Forget Arenado. Do not forget Dickerson. He can rake and is still cheap. They have several other really good prospects, including a couple of catchers, and outfielder named Dahl, and more. A package of Q and either Montas or Beck could possibly get Dickerson and 2-3 other prospects.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 3, 2015 -> 07:19 AM) I would not trade Sale. The reason is simple, you have other trade pieces. If a team offered a bundle for Sale, I would counter for a lesser bundle for Q or Rodon. But it may not cost a fortune to pick up Sale's production. For example, Boston has a bunch of young talented players--Bogaerts-Bradley-Betts-Vasquez-Swihart-Rodriguez all under similiar team friendly contracts. Now if Dombrowski offered 3 of them for Q I would jump at it. Unfortunately my guess is several of them have moved to the untouchable category as well. Betts is untouchable, for sure. Probably Bogaerts and the two Cuban kids, too.

Old guys need names. Back in Veeck's day there might have been only 16 teams, rosters didn't turn over as much, and there were no baseball TV packages, MLB Networks, etc. Just because the snobby Yankees don't use names, doesn't mean the rest of the free world should follow suit.

Eaton's OPS is .792.

I'm looking for a post from Stan Bahnson regarding RV in 2017.
-
Although these numbers are meaningless, I looked at the 2015 stats for the Top 10 picks in this year's draft, and Benintendi of Boston looks to be the leader. Average of .313, OPS over 1, 11 Homers. Low A. Fulmer next best. Can't complain.

Back to Trayce. I love the Photog-tweeking of the catch, calling him the "Splash Brother". But beyond that, Trayce might be one of those guys who hits better in the majors than he did in minors. He won't be the first. Kind of the opposite of Avisail. I love his defense, his speed, hustle, youth, power. And back to Lillian's post, I can see Melki hitting DH a lot next year.

Well, it's that time of year again....2015 edition

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 30, 2015 -> 08:28 AM) I know at this point the difference between pick 8 and pick 9 (or 11 and 12) is essentially meaningless, but then I go back to the last couple drafts and if we were just one spot higher in both we miss out on both guys we wanted. 2015? Were Sox going to take Benitendi if Bosox passed on him? 2014? We got our guy in Rodon. 2013? I can't remember who we wanted. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 05:18 AM) i really don't know what the problem is or the answer. i will go back to what i stated earlier. not my rant on the owner and not getting enuf players nor the profit and lost. the one problem that i keep coming back to is this. many thought that the sox did enuf changes to be in better shape, including me. the owners and FO thought the same and to be honest most was in a giddy mood b/c it. dang, even at the trade deadline, the sox rolled out a series of wins. now this is a rhetorical question, what happen to cause most of the team to fail, to go into a prolong slump?? could anything have been done from management side to change the momentum?? yes.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Sep 28, 2015 -> 11:02 AM) Get him now, there are plenty of other young Cuban guys out there to make it worth your while to go over the limit this year and all alot closer to the majors then the guys the Sox would be signing on the next two July signing periods. Now is the perfect time to bust the limit with the abundance of players available, the depth of position players in the Sox system, and the impending international draft. Slight exaggeration? -
And yet, the Rockies drew over 40,000 on Saturday and over 32,000 yesterday, despite a worse team/record.
-
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 08:58 PM) I wouldn't mind the White Sox defrauding a team or two with such a trade. It'd really help our progression forward to not give up talent to receive talent. Really, looking back when is the last terribly lopsided White Sox trade in our favor? Nellie Fox for Joe Tipton.
-
I agree with Fathom on the Sale issue. They would surely get 3-5 good players who can hit. This would be more valuable than the 12-15 wins Sale could get. Maybe get rid of LaRoach, too. Gotta check it out. It'll give Hahn something to do.
-
If the Sox arent in the top 10, how do you improve this offseason?
oldsox replied to Dunt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Say goodbye to Alexi, put Saladino at short, at least check out what you can get for Sale, hope for improvement everywhere, tell Anderson to hurry up. -
Deion Sanders is such a jerk. There was this incident and also the one later in NL Division Playoffs when there was a live, televised confrontation between the idiot and Tim McCarver in the locker room. If anyone wants the details, I remember them vividly.
