QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 11:46 AM) Speaking of Hanley. "There’s “talk in the front office” that new Red Sox baseball chief Dave Dombrowski is trying to move Hanley Ramirez, according to Nick Cafardo of The Boston Globe. Cafardo adds that the Mariners, Orioles, and Angels “seem to be the targets” of DD’s campaign to relocate the pricey veteran after he turned in a massively disappointing season in 2015. It’s not immediately clear if those three clubs have interest, however." "Of course, trading Ramirez is probably easier said than done. Just last week, five general managers told Cafardo that they wouldn’t take on Ramirez even if the Red Sox picked up the tab on half of his remaining salary. Ramirez is owed $66MM through 2018 and he has a $22MM vesting option for 2019, so even at a reduced rate, that’s still a hefty price for a player coming off such a rough season on and off the field." More here. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/red-...ey-ramirez.html Ouch. The Red Sox are all kinds of backwards on that contract and only after the first year. Ramirez and Panda Sandoval. What a pair to draw to. Another testimonial to GM's. And yet, Bosox are loaded with great prospects.

QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 06:17 PM) He's still cheap, most likely had options (not positive), and there are plenty of spots on the 40 man at the moment. Why would you DFA Webb? Because he can't get big league hitters out.

QUOTE (WBWSF @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) I've always maintained that a man needs 2 things to be happy in life. He must be in love with his work and he must be in love with his wife. It looks like Jose Abreu has both now. Sappiest comment of the century.

Article on Justin Upton on ESPN.com today. 5 teams in the running starting with White Sox. Closing comment was something like Sox never punt, so they will do something. Words to that effect.
-
Webb, hands down. He had a bad year, and it kept getting worse and worse. Kahnle acquisition prob sealed his fate.

QUOTE (daggins @ Nov 26, 2015 -> 02:14 PM) Lawrie isn't good though. Maybe they can throw in Rangel Ravelo. Give him back.

Fast forward to circa 2020. "White Sox announce signing Gordon Beckham as minor league hitting and base running Coach".
-
If Puig gains another 30 pounds, he can play DT for Da Bears.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 24, 2015 -> 08:55 PM) Was hoping to keep him around, actually swung the bat well for the White Sox. Did the Angels overpay? Angels got rid of Ianetta, who cost a heck of a lot more that Sota. Seattle picked up Ianetta.

I saw quite a bit of Kahnle. I liked him, then he had a really bad day last season, and they wouldn't take him out. They kept him in and they knocked the crap out of him. Did not understand it at the time. Another time he came in for a routine save, 2-3 run lead, and he loaded the bases, looked like a lost cause, and all of a sudden he got 3 outs, game over. Tough kid. Needs a hair cut.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 23, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) He has a great personality. I've had multiple great interactions with him. Did he talk about his time in Miami -- the last year of his career?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 22, 2015 -> 08:38 PM) No he does not, because he was 19 when he signed. If he was 18 when he signed like Hawkins, he'd have another year. You are correct. He (Barnum) was 19, born in Jan of '93. Still, can't see anyone signing him and keeping him on ML roster.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 08:26 PM) Per @MLBPipeline, highly ranked Rule 5-eligible #WhiteSox prospects NOT added to 40-man: Ps Onelki Garcia, Myles Jaye, 1B Keon Barnum. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/667868208834154498 Doesn't he have another year left before he is Rule 5 eligible?

RE: Puig. Here's another thing about Puig. Supposedly, when he escaped Cuba, he made a deal with a man who helped him escape. The fee for this was something like 25% of his signing bonus. Puig not only reneged on the payment, but he told the Cuban authorities who the guy was, and he is now serving a 15 year or so term in a Cuban prison. You could make a movie out of this stuff. To make it juicier, there have been threats made to Puig. It's been a while since this story broke, and I have not seen anything on it for at least 2-3 years; maybe someone here has additional information.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) Yeah and supposedly it is that type of humor that the guys like. The media hates it but the players in the clubhouse like it and he kept them loose. Think of Maddux peeing on everyone in the lockeroom. Plaschke is the pits. Guy is a fraud. By the way, I didn't realize you had moved out here (or at least I assume you did since your pimping a lot of the shows I listen to). 570 is the worst, with the exception of the morning on 710. Dan Lebatard is the stink. How does anyone listen to that crap. Jason, what is it you don't like about Plaschke?

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 20, 2015 -> 02:58 PM) I didn't forget about the outfield, just don't see it as important of a need as 3B, SS and C. As long as Melky,Avi and LaRoche are on the roster, theres not much the Sox can do in the outfield since neither Melky nor Avi can be used full time at DH with LaRoche on the team. I'd prefer at least one of the three moved in a trade, perferably LaRoche but that isnt going to happen and Melky would be a hard sell ( I cling to hope he still could be moved) which leaves Avi whom has such little value that he would be an add-on to an already proposed trade package. Back to Walker, the money and prospects that would be used for one year of a 30 year old 2B could be better used on positions that are in more need of upgrading, 3B and SS especially. Freese is expected to command a similar salary to Walker and could solidify 3B for the next two or three years which buys the Sox time to develop or trade for a young 3B and Freese would only cost the roughly 10M per year and no prospects or draft picks. That leaves the Sox with 10M to spare with saved prospects that were not used for Walker and the Sox could then try to swing a deal with the Marlins for Dee Gordon whom projects to earn about 6MM in '16 and is under team control through the '18 season. Maybe the Marlins would be interested in a package of Erik Johnson, Micah Johnson/ Avi? Gordon played SS before he was moved to 2B so he provides some flexibility although he's definitely better at 2B, which is fine. Saladino can play SS with Sanchez becoming the utility he's likely destined to become anyway and things suddenly start falling into place. Saladino buys the Sox another year of seeing how Anderson progresses at the SS position. A middle infield of Gordon, Saladino, Sanchez provides the Sox with a large amount of flexibility defensively and some offensively in the lineup card. All three are capable of playing SS orr 2B with Saladino serving as Freese's backup at 3B. Why would the Marlins try to trade Gordon?

Please don't give up Q or Adams for Puig. Three things will adversely affect Puig's trade value. The interview, his declining numbers, and his weight.
-
My Avi glass is half full, maybe more. He knows 2016 is a big year for him and his career, and the White Sox represent the best chance for him to achieve whatever it is that he wants to achieve. Lets see how he does in ST; if he shows up 20 pounds heavier and swings at too many pitches in the dirt, then he made his choice. I'm betting the opposite, that he'll show up in shape and ready for a good year.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 11:42 AM) nice post, if i can let me add Hawkins and Barum into the mix LDF, you are not supposed to criticize Hawkins on this site.

There is a great article on trading Cargo in Purplerow.com Unfortunately, I can't get the link to bring it here. Maybe one of you young guys can do it.

QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 09:48 PM) There's no possible way the White Sox could ever get true value for Sale. They'd have to find a team that is so stacked at the minor league level that they'd be willing to trade (and probably destroy) their top prospects for him. These top prospects can't be from a team like the current White Sox system; they would have to come from an organization that has 4 or 5 top 50 MLB prospects, and it's hard to argue that the White Sox shouldn't get all of these prospects back. Even if the White Sox were more focused on getting major league talent back, you're still talking 1-2 top young pieces plus minor league talent from that top 50 MLB list. It's just extremely unlikely that the White Sox will be able to find a team willing to move as much as they should seemingly ask for. Did you see what the Bosox gave up for Kimbrel? They have more prospects left, plus Swihart. Not saying it'll happen, but I hear it's being discussed.

QUOTE (Whitey @ Nov 15, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) That is pretty close to what I was thinking for Sale (my version was Seager, Pederson, Urias, and a few lesser prospects). But, I would keep Quintana as the ace. To round off my mock offseason, I would also.... - Trade Robertson for prospects. Move Montas to setup, and Jones to closer. - Trade Micah (to NYY for Gary Sanchez). - Trade Melky for prospects. - Include considerable $ with Danks and LaRoche to entice someone to give up a prospect or two for them. - In FA, I would sign one of the Japanese OF's (Hyun-soo Kim or Ah-seop Son), and then bring back Buehrle for his farewell tour in 2016. LF - Eaton CF - Pederson RF - Kim/Son 3B - Seager SS - Saladino (maybe Anderson by the end of 2016) 2B - Sanchez 1B - Abreu C - Sanchez/Flowers DH - Garcia SP - Quintana SP - Buehrle SP - Rodon SP - Johnson SP - Urias/Beck/Fulmer Jones as closer? The same Jones who couldn't get anyone out last 6 weeks of season? Nate Jones?

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 14, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) Again, why would the Rockies, or anyone, want LaRoche... You might be right, it might just be wishful thinking here. But, first base is a hole for them, they think they need help there, he is good defensively. They know without a doubt that Rosario kills them defensively. Why would any team want Jose Reyes at SS for two years?? Yet, there he is. They got him to facilitate getting 3 top pitching prospects from Toronto. La Roche would be more valuable to Rox than to Sox. Plus, they really want to move Cargo. They have some promising young outfielders and they covet Montas.
-
I'm very familiar with all Denver teams, having moved there in the early 70's. Rox would love to move Cargo, which would have been impossible if not for his large second half this year. It's no secret that they covet pitching. They love fast ballers, and so are intrigued with Montas. The two teams should be able to work around this and make a deal. Cargo has obvious drawbacks. Large salary, injury history, and waaay too much swinging at first pitches out of strike zone. I don't care about the first two. It's not my money, and the injuries are unrelated. If Cargo were transplanted to a contender, I think the third drawback would cure itself. The money issue could be partially offset by dumping LaRoche. Rox could actually use him. Cargo has obvious attractions. Power, speed, great defense at all three OF positions, he hustles, good teammate, etc. Chicago would love this kid. So, Cargo for LaRoche and Montas might work. I personally think this is the right time to trade Montas. Sorry, I just wasn't that impressed. I could be wrong. Rox will ask for more, of course. Give them a minor league pitcher; the article mentioned Lowry. Okay with me. But, Rox really want to move Cargo. They have a strong farm system and that includes a couple of OF's who are close to being ready. Rox are motivated, and they just might have a higher regard for Montas than anyone. Jeez, Cargo would make the Sox a better team.
