Detailed piece on Rangel Ravelo
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) That's the key factor, power. He's needs to hit a lot more long balls. The good news, in addition to the videos from that article showing just how hard he CAN hit it... is the doubles. Despite having very little speed, he hit 31 doubles in 413 PA. Or look at it from this perspective - he hit 27 doubles in 84 games with Winston-Salem. Only about 15 guys had more in the Carolina League, and they all had at least 100 games played, most more like 120-130. If he had 125 games at a similar rate, he'd have hit about 41 doubles, good for a tie for leading the entire league (and the guy he'd be tied with had 133 games). Given those doubles are likely not speed-aided (many of the guys above him have double digit SB's), he's hitting the ball hard, a lot. That's sometimes a positive future indicator of home run power. Mark Grace hit a ton of doubles, not many homers. not much speed. Great career. If RR hits over .300 again this year with a bunch of two baggers, he should pass a lot of players on the White Sox prospect list.

2014 Draft class
QUOTE (staxx @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 07:47 AM) Completely agree. #3 is not the place you make a "safer" pick. At #3, you need a star. A signable star.

Chicago White Sox Top 20 Prospects for 2014
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Mar 3, 2014 -> 10:01 AM) That is the lowest I've seen Hawkins ranked all off-season. God I hope he comes back and hits with a vengeance this year. Are there any reports on Hawkins this Spring?

Over/under on Boggs as closer by 6/1? Then Goldberg in 2015
Lindstrom hasn't been a closer for a few years, so why try again with him? He closed with Houston one year, then lost the job. Strictly a set up guy now. I think he and Boggs should be fighting for the same roster spot, but they will both probably go North in April. I don't get the Boggs' signing.

Trade for Nomar that never happened
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Feb 27, 2014 -> 12:43 AM) That would have been a stupid deal on paper and in reality. I remember the rumors of it and I didn't like it one bit then and cringe when I think about it now. I know Maggs ended up getting hurt, leaving and all. But it was still stupid. Not as stupid as what the Yankees did for Arod.

Paulino apparently ahead of Rienzo
Like a few other pitchers, he was really, really bad with the Rockies a couple of years ago, and they cut him mid-season. Now, he surfaces with White Sox. Maybe he was hurt. Still, I don't get the signing.

Taking Suggestions
Is it possible to get coverage of the minor league ST games?

Analysis of the Toolsy Outfield Four - who rebounds?
Maybe Sox should start Hawkins at Kanny, let him play there for 3-4 weeks, see if he dominates, then move him up with an armload of confidence.

2013 Minor League Transactions
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) So this was a little bit of a surprise... BA has a piece up (written by Scot Gregor) featuring Dan Black. Bell saying he would have put Black's chances at seeing the majors at 20% early in his career, now thinks it is 70%. Apparently the Sox do see something in him, albeit not a ton. I've said before, I think Black could find a major league role, I just don't think it is likely with the Sox. Primarily because of the presence of Abreu.

Morris & May getting some love from Minorleagueball.com
Is May a better prospect than Hawkins? I bet we'll know by mid-June, barring injuries.

Sox breakout player for 2014?
Breakout player should be Avisail Garcia. I had forgotten what a great year he had in 2013 at two AAA stops -- Toledo and Charlotte. That, plus he looked pretty solid in September makes me think he will be a star this year. Geez, he hit over .370 in AAA last year. This kid should be ready to take off.

The Next Wave - White Sox prospects to watch outside the T25
QUOTE (floridafan @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 10:05 PM) Thanks guys! Hoping for a good ST so he can regain some momentum! Carry on with the thread. Don't want to make more of it then there is. Just hoping for 10 more seasons out of him. I enjoy watching my son play. As you should. Is he 100% now? Slated for Kanny?

Asking Prices Beginning to Fall
I hope he signs with either KC, Minny, Cleveland, or Detroit.

Hahn's next move?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2014 -> 08:42 PM) You could also take that as a lesson about what a bad contract can do to hamstring a team... Did KW ever learn that lesson?

2014 Draft class
What are the odds that Boros will represent Rodon? Sounds to me like those two are made for each other.

So call me confused
C'mon, Eaton is a virtual lock to start the season in CF; he might not end the season there, but he'll almost certainly start it there. That's why they made the trade. Regarding Davidson, I remain surprised that so many here think he will start 2014 in AAA. I cannot see Hahn trading Reed for Davidson just to put him in Charlotte for more seasoning. Reed is simply too attractive to too many teams not to get a major league player for him. If Davidson starts at Charlotte and hits .250ish, this could turn out to be an unpopular trade, at least initially. Reed should do well in AZ.

FutureSox Top 25 Prospects Thread
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) They get 5 years in affiliated ball. I'm not clear if that includes DSL time, but I think it does. Good. That means the five year clock on Castilla et al has not started yet.

FutureSox Top 25 Prospects Thread
When do Castillo and the other 16 year olds that we signed last year have to be moved to the 40 man roster to avoid losing them? Does the clock start running right away, or does it start when they start playing? Not sure if the 4 year rule applies to 16 year olds from outside the US...

FutureSox Top 25 Prospects Thread
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 04:24 PM) 2020 is more realistic. I bet you're wrong on this one, Southsider. Not saying it will be as early as 2015, but if he comes out in 2020, that means he will have been under Sox control for 7 years. That's a long time for a ROY. If he is that good, his cream will rise to the top well before next decade. That said, I bet we'll have a good idea if he is a great prospect by the end of 2015. I sure hope he plays somewhere this year.

Top White Sox Prospects - 2014 Pre-Season
I disagree with you and Wite on Micah Johnson. He put up great numbers as a 22 year old. Okay, he only hit .238 at B'ham at end of season in 21 AB's. So what? One extra hit would have added almost 50 points to his BA there. Plus, he did well in AFL. He stole 87 bases in 2013. I have never seen him play, but he's gotta be one of the most exciting Sox non-pitching prospects in a long time. Some say he is too old (he just turned 23 last month), but that's what happens when you go to college-- you get older. We have three great middle infield prospects in Micah, Semien, and Sanchez. Don't trade them -- yet. Let's see how they do in the next few months.

Grab a SP now
FWIW, I hear Ubaldo is looking at KC, Toronto, and Seattle with the Indians still having an ouside shot at him. I hope it stays that way, even though he pitched pretty well down the stretch. Rockies are not a player here.

Rosenthal: Tanaka to Yankees
I wonder if gov. Cuomo will accept Tanaka as a New Yorker?
