  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) How many of our J2 guys are current Top 17, other than Adolfo? Who's #2 in our system? What about Top 30-50? Your obvious retort here is Tatis, Jr. Amado Nunez, most likely. Also Robert obviously if we're counting him.
  2. Your browser does not support iframes. The curve was working.
  3. QUOTE (ecupittfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 08:03 PM) I wish we could have swung a deal with the Rockies for Jeff Hoffman. He was supposed to be the #1 pick before Tommy John surgery right before the draft and dropped to 7th. He was rated higher than Rodon, was the #1 prospect out of the Cape League after soph year. Now look at what he is doing. 5-1 now, with 50Ks in 49 innings and a 1.15 ERA. He had 1 bad start of 3 innings 9 ER but outside of that he has a 2.70 ERA and 1.000 ratio. Better pitcher than Gray in my opinion. He wasn't going to be #1. The question was if we would take him to save money or go for Rodon.
  4. MLB.com slots him in at #30 for the White Sox. Before last year's draft, he would have been the #14 prospect in the system.
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 05:00 PM) Edit: I see no reference to Groome or Travis Same. I need to see that in writing.
  6. QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 04:03 PM) Another benefit of a low payroll is you have very little on the books in terms of long term contracts. Its easier to sell a team when you a team with a low payroll and no long term contracts on the books. When JR bought the team from Veeck in 1981 he walked into a situation with a low payroll and no long term contracts. Both of my sources tell me that JR will sell the White Sox within the next 2 years. There are at least 2 groups of people who want to buy the team. They will be buying a team with a low payroll and no long term contracts. If those sources told you this whole thing is a salary dump, you may need new sources.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 04:36 PM) Ben Balder thinks he may move to the mound MLB gave him a 70 grade arm, so that'd be interesting to follow.
  8. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 04:32 PM) Because trading draft gives leverage back to players. Maybe place a deadline on it? Like can't trade picks once the season has begun? That way if Rick Hahn for sure wanted Beer, but didn't think he'd be taken #1 or #2, he could trade down.

  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 04:27 PM) Cleuluis? Sox released him last month because he was pitiful. Never got the soxtalk obsession with him other than that he was involved in a big trade. He had an amazing glove (scouts and video supported this, with some calling him the best fielding SS in all of baseball) and for a while seemed like he might be able to hit enough to justify his spot reliant on his glove. Then he cratered.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) How do the new rules work? I always get confused. Would the Sox have even been able to use this money during this signing period? I don't think so...
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) I remember when Cubs traded for the Orioles slot money in the Arrieta trade. They used it to sign some bum named Eloy I have no idea if you're being negative or not here.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 03:27 PM) To sign someone else.. This new bonus pool is fascinating to me. I don't think you can go over by a nickel. Yet we can't trade draft picks.
  14. I like this, but why did the Rangers just sell him basically?
  15. QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:42 PM) and?
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 02:07 PM) Not a bad post, but in a debate, you would lose because of the Robert signing. That was a big-buck signing. I am sure it is easier for the owners to stomach a rebuild if they are saving money in the process. Your post is interesting as didn't the Miami Marlins do what you suggest after winning it all and they never really started spending money again, did they? But as far as this just being a salary dump. IF that was true and I don't think it is true (it is a nice part of the rebuild for the owners, though, making it less painful if they are making tons of $$$), then this rebuild would totally prove interesting. Cause if their sole purpose is lowest possible payroll, then as the young guys advance and make the minimum possible dollars, the Sox would have to dump all of the ones who pan out as they near free agency. Interesting post, but I think the Robert signing proves they want to win. Because they didn't have to get involved with him if they wanted to only reap huge profits. They still would be seen publicly as a team rebuilding step by step even without the Robert $$$s being spent. Good post.
  17. And if Quintana pitches in the World Series, I will wear a White Sox Jose Quintana #62 black jersey and pull for him every pitch. He's one of the bright spots of being a fan the past few years and was the perfect successor to team leaders like Buehrle and Konerko. As fun and talented as Eaton and Sale were, they were embarrassing sometimes as team leaders.
  18. Yeah, really don't care about the Cubs winning the World Series. It happened and isn't special anymore. Now, if Q pitches like he does and somehow turns in a HOF career and gets his number retired on the North Side, I'll be a bit bitter (but still very happy for Q). If Eloy turns in a HOF career on the South Side and Cease is an All-Star, I won't care at all. My ideal world still sees us bringing back Q in the Lester role in 3 years, the savvy vet to lead a young team to playoff glory.
  19. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 01:51 PM) What happened to Holland? #HUGWATCH
  20. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:56 PM) BA didn't have him as one (yet), but BP said he just missed their recent top 50 update. I think he'd be a huge get and probably fills a bigger organizational need than Soto. If Hahn could swing Kieboom + Luzardo, I'd be one happy man.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:50 PM) There were a few rumors, but nothing by anyone who knows anything. Some people just made the leap because of the timing. If you believe raBBit, and who knows, anything could have happened since yesterday, but a return that isn't too exciting certainly wouldn't indicate that we were open to taking on Panda. Yeah, if we were taking back Panda then I'd need it to be Dalbec/Chavis, Johnson and Lozada or something along those lines.
  22. QUOTE (FT35 @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:34 PM) Unless they find that he's pregnant. That would cause a more significant pause such as this. That was unexpected
  23. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 15, 2017 -> 12:29 PM) I was talking to an Astros fan buddy of mine and he truly has no concern about the pitching staff. He said that they can hit their way out of any deficit. I pointed out that in the postseason it usually comes down to the stronger pitching staff and he seemed to believe that that rule wouldn't apply with an offense like theirs. He wants them to stand pat. It makes zero sense and, as you say, we've seen time and again the team with amazing offense come up short in the postseason. Hell, Astros fans forget about 2005 already? Watching the Astros blow this will be extremely satisfying after how they perceived Q.
