  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 07:29 PM) No love for the Dexter Pittman signing? He's lost a lot of weight, and he's 6-11" with a 7'6" wingspan....Thibs'll fix em He's kind of a douche.
  2. QUOTE (MEANS @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) so freaking what, all you do is backpeddle and spin your arguments....look at our lineup, not much better. If the Royals hired fan favorite Ozzie Guillen and traded for AJP right now, they'd be World Series favorites.
  3. Like I said, if Rienzo turns into another Q/Santiago out of nowhere pitcher, we're sitting pretty.
  4. I'll over analyze and say ALEXEI DEAL IMMINENT.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2013 -> 01:16 AM) I went with the Cubs cause I believe the Sox remain a mess. There's a very bizarre mental mindset on our team (yes, it started with the play of the Sox in Ozzie's final year and a half). Robin has continued that mindset - weird way of losing games; very bizarre style of play; inability to win consistently at home for some reason; lift and pull mentality remaining with no bases on balls, even though we have ONE home run hitter on the roster. Very weird team and I don't see the mindset changing enough to get us in the playoffs anytime soon. We're going to need a special manager to work with these players; don't know who that manager would be. I might try a very old baseball lifer next time. His name?? Tony LaRussa. Beg him to take over the team.
  6. Looking at it objectively, Ozzie isn't even a Top 3 White Sox SS of All-Time.
  7. It's worth noting that Artest said that the hardest player he has ever had to defend was MJ. Wizards MJ. And I know it was a younger Artest, but current LeBron is going up against an old Artest.
  8. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 11:38 PM) I'll take a good staff over good hitting prospects and its not even close. This needs to be said more.
  9. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:57 PM) I guess it's relevant to this thread, is anyone else disappointed about the prospects we received from the Red Sox? I mean Montas has a big arm and control issues so he's a wild card but the other two? eh I was really hoping for Garcia and Ranuado. That would have been a home run.
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 10:48 PM) That's true. I would think Sale, Q, Rienzo, and Santiago are worth more than their top 5 MLBers and top 5 prospects combined going forward. If Rienzo becomes another Q/Santiago out-of-nowhere type pitch, Sox are looking good.
  11. You can get in with great pitching and below average hitting. It's rare that you can get in with great hitting and below average pitching.
  12. QUOTE (ron883 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 05:10 PM) I'm waiting for a popcorn worthy debate. Garpax debates usually aren't too hard. They've done a great job, and it's easy to prove.
  13. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 04:09 PM) *sits back, grabs popcorn*
  14. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) I strongly suspect he already worked out a deal with the Marlins while he was still the Sox manager. That's pretty unforgivable in the sports world IMO. It's well known that he did.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2013 -> 04:03 PM) I'm thankful my ex took my virginity 5 years ago, which ranks right up there with the White Sox winning a World Series title, but that doesn't mean I have to give a f*** about her or like her anymore. That's about how I feel about Ozzie...except that I think I like my ex more. A+ analogy
  16. I'll remember him as a great manager until he got greedy and mailed it in.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) I'd probably do some of both. The pen right now is: Reed Jones Veal Troncoso Purcey Axelrod Lindstrom I'd say that for next year, Reed, Jones, and Veal are likely candidates. Axelrod has a role as the last guy/long guy out until we find someone better. I'd wager Daniel Webb is up next year. That's 5 guys, one of which is a lefty, leaving 2 open spots as written. Don't know why you'd pencil in Purcey or Troncoso next year unless you're shooting for the #1 pick. Santos Rodriguez could be a possible lefty contributor next year if they want to bring him up. That still leaves at least 1 spot for a FA signing, maybe more if they want to sign a lefty or another righty instead of Webb or Santos L. Rodriguez. Leesman could be a decent long man.
  18. Why are the Sox and Royals combining announcers?
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 20, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) I 100% believe your opinion is dead wrong and that Konerko and Keppinger have been the biggest reasons, if you want to single out individual players. I am going to prove you wrong too (because those are 20 isolated plays, odds are incredibly small that more than one directly affected the outcome of the game, but it's certainly possible) I got about halfway through all his errors and found about 3 games where his error "contributed greatly," but this is not including plays where he gets to balls that normally would have been runs. This is also not including other players who have made errors, and is also not including other guys failing in spots where they should succeed. I'd be unfairly isolating the 20 very poor plays Alexei Ramirez has made this season. No, they have not been good for the Sox, but nobody is perfect. The overall numbers say otherwise and suggest that he's been one of the most valuable players on the team. More range = more errors More range = more run saving plays But the new members all agreed with Greg "The Pied Piper" 775.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Then why is this coming up now? If he's supposed to pull everything and that's the smart approach, and the one recommended by hitting coaches, then why change now ... after the Sox are 30 games out of first place or whatever they are? Cause Greg Walker preached lift and pull and Dunn's approach worked for a goddamn decade.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 19, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) Another newcomer agrees with greg. I'm like the Pied Piper. I attract the people who don't normally speak their voice. I'm laughing so hard right now. Greg is the voice oc the oppressed!
  22. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 11:41 PM) I actually find Ryan Braun more detestable than A-Rod. Bruan is a steaming pile of malicious s***. A-Rod is a blundering, blustering narcissist, trapped by his own neurosis. Neither is particularly sympathetic but at least A-Rod's s***tiness can be viewed on the surface, Braun is rotten to the core but hides behind those big doe eyes. f***er. THIS. THIS 1000 TIMES.
  23. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 11:22 PM) I notice more of the board newcomers or those who don't post a lot tend to agree with my controversial stance. Let's get a survey of these good people.
  24. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 09:43 PM) I'm not sure what took so long for a player to do this. I really lost a lot of respect for Robin Ventura when we had none of our pitchers take this action during ARods return series. Just bean the bum with a 95+ mph fastball at least once per game and he'll disappear from the sport soon enough. Players in the "golden era" of the sport had a way of self police-ing each other and the game has seemed to lose that over the years. ...and this would prove what? That A-Rod is the biggest named cheater since Bonds in a league full of cheaters? QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) I'd be more persuaded by this if the Red Sox didn't have cheaters on their team when they won their WS championships and PED users weren't incredibly prevalent. This. Half the people in baseball criticizing A-Rod have gained something from PEDs, direct or indirectly.
  25. Option C: Everyone does well, then Axelrod comes in to blow it.
