They seem to get athletes but not baseball players. Some flaws can't be fixed at the professional level. Drafting and developing may be the two biggest problems in this organization. You have to point a finger the JR since they draft the agent instead of the player. Better players will get the better agents. The same group of people are repeating the same mistakes. Things need to be gutted at the top.

Outside of pitching I don't think this organization has a decent ability to scout, draft and develop players. New ownership is what is needed.

Sad the way things are these days. Memorabilia is not what it use to be. So what if the opposing team hit the home run? The game is really about individuals. You kept it because it was a memory. When I was a kid Billy Williams signed my glove. There were no photos taken for authenticity, kept in a glass case, surveyed it's market value. Nope, I went outside and played baseball with it. It was the only glove I owned. The cool thing about it was that a big league player signed something for you.

I think the job of a hitting coach is always temporary. They also need new players to coach. It's not unusual to seem them make a big difference their first year. At the major league level it has to be very difficult. Most of the players have habits that are hard to change at this level. The ones that can break them usually self coached. When guys like Walker, Hawkins and Mitchell and Thompson are brought up, the logic tells me trading for prospects will be a dead end. It appears the scouting and instruction sucks. Why are they always drafting these outfielders? This organization doesn't seem to have a scout that can find a good catcher. It could also be kids don't want to play that position anymore. I think the future is beyond bleak. As long as JR is calling the shots it will be nothing but bleak. This team needs new ownership. So far nothing really stands out about Hahn either.

Does anyone have any insight that this organization is capable of rebuilding? What changes have been made in scouting, development, ect? My impression is far more negative with guys like Viciedo. They were impressed with his hitting and overlooked everything else. That's seems to be the Sox philosophy. They don't develop baseball players nor do they draft them. If they trade guys like Rios or Peavy it should be for guys who are ready to play. Get the the impression if the organization was an NFL team they wold be more impressed by the Combine than film footage.

I've been paying attention to Liptak's thread on WSI about the Sox philosophy. He's been doing a lot of investigating on attendance and other things. His conclusion is much like mine. The organization needs to be gutted from the top. New ownership is needed. So many things keep in place with no success. A new approach is needed and Hahn may not be part of that either.

They need to find a naive NL GM to take him off our hands. Maybe he can't hack the AL.
