  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 19, 2013 -> 08:17 AM) That should be enough for other teams to gauge his value for the deadline. The key is to make sure that he is in a position to succeed when he gets back. I am sure teams will be scouting his rehab games as well. A wise GM would give little to nothing for Peavy and make you pay part of his salary. They only thing Peavy has excelled at is going on the DL.
  2. From what I've read, I'm glad I don't get to see this game.
  3. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 11:12 AM) It's on a very, very exclusive channel. In fact, I'll bet you a hefty sum of money you won't find it. Also, go re-read the past 10 pages of the thread because we're not going through this again. Why would I want to waste time doing this on a site that doesn't give the team it's own thread. There's a Cubs thread but no BH thread. Unbelievable unless we are devoting threads to perpetual losers. The Hawks don't qualify while the Sox and Cubs do.
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 02:45 PM) Chicago fans are bandwagoners that don't know anything about hockey, unlike Bostonians, says AP piece Jesus Christ, can we make our off-day fluff a little less insulting? What does bandwagoners mean in the real world? Do they get locked out of the stadium? Owners are more than happy to get revenue from bandwagoners.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) 6th pick in the draft. Keep losing. I get the impression that problems could be solved by better instruction and scouting. If that isn't fixed, it doesn't matter who you pick unless the guy is major league ready.
  6. It sucks that tonight's game is on an exclusive channel. I'd prefer NBC not to be given another contract for the Stanley. An awesome sport that could use some more fans should not be on a premier package.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 12, 2013 -> 07:29 AM) This is like a witch hunt. I have a funny feeling this is not gonna end well for MLB. The damage is already done. The first thing that should have been done was Selig's resignation for looking the other way, therefore allowing Congress to get involved. The next generation of sports writers will put probably some of the dopes in the Hall. Mark McGwire despite admitting to cheating will probably get in because some forgive for being honest when the act wasn't honest in the first place.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Well I am glad some posters finally realized how hypocritical those comments are. Phil Rogers is the guy ranking our prospects for Baseball America when he has absolutely no clue what the hell he is talking about. Phil Rogers is the guy going on Chicago Tribune Live looking as unprepared to comment intelligently on Chicago baseball as my mother. The guy is just an incredible waste of space...for him to claim that someone else isn't putting in the work is mind-boggling. Usually responses to his articles reflect this.
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 9, 2013 -> 05:05 PM) Speaking of...my latest article: what the White Sox can learn from the Blackhawks A change in ownership and philosophy is the big difference.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 6, 2013 -> 11:27 PM) Most of the less knowledgeable people simply stay away from the draft thread. As for Danish, I can't help but think reliever. Potentially fast rising one, but I always cringe when I hear guys have a plus fastball/slider combo and need to develop the change to remain a starter. That's because they are working for Jerry.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 09:31 AM) I've seen a lot of posts wanting Ventura yelling and screaming at players and umpires, thinking that makes a difference. Where you work are the most effective bosses people who yell and scream at their employees if the results haven't been what they expect? Do you yourself respond better when being yelled at? Yep, I get tired of the showing emotion=they care. Kids and parents have bought into that crap and amateur sports have become a cesspool of incivility.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) I haven't though the team looked lazy this year. More dumb than lazy. Stuff like running into outs has been happening way more often than guys not taking a base when they should for example. That is the Sox MO. They are always a dumb baseball team.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) This fact somehow seems to escape so many people around here. It's fascinating. I wish we could also stop rehashing the past about this.
  14. What happen to Tim Lincecum? How the might have fallen. 5+ ERA. It's like the pitching version of Adam Dunn.
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 1, 2013 -> 08:09 PM) Everyone that posts here has an agenda. Yours is further from reality than most. This is the funniest thing I've read in awhile. Can someone actually upstage you in this department?

QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 2, 2013 -> 01:43 PM) Ozzie ruined 2012. Dunn was worth his contract. You can choose to ignore his career stats up until signing with the White Sox if you like, but in the real world, players who achieve what Dunn achieved get those kinds of contracts. If the Sox didn't sign him someone else would have been saddled with his deal. GMs, like anyone else on the planet, need to be evaluated based on what they were able to do with what they had to work with & with the information available at the time. You can't punish a GM for not being a psychic. Yes Dunn was a high K machine, but he was also in his prime, left-handed, an OBP machine, and a huge power threat. Kenny only gave him 4 years, which was probably the bare minimum he was going to get. IIRC the Tigers were also in on him & there were people saying Dunn would get 5 years. This was a good on-paper move that backfired, and the type of move any GM could make. Take AA for instance, this guy was a genius 6 months ago & now he's garbage who needs to be ousted. Really? Did he completely lose all mental faculties over the last 6 months? Or did he make a couple moves that looked good on paper but turned to s*** on the field? Blaming KW for Dunn is completely ridiculous. Oh I don't know. There were fans who didn't agree with the signing. Isn't he usually the type of guy Kenny likes to get? No versatility on the bases and the field. I guess NL stats don't automatically convert to AL stats.
  17. I think it goes deeper. Get when of your scouting and development as well.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 31, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) I absolutely would. Eventually teams that finish 2nd or 3rd get lucky and hit the wild card. They've been doing that. They don't get lucky. This is part of the attendance problem. Competitive usually run hand in hand with mediocre.
  19. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:42 PM) Why can't this year be the rock bottom year in a successful rebuild that includes dealing guys like Peavy and Rios? There is no evidence that they are capable of this. They draft poorly and I doubt the development is great either.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:04 AM) Phil Rogers also suggests releasing Dunn and trading for Ethier at a reduced rate to replace him. That is absurd. Ethier is locked in until 2017 at $85 million and is strictly a platoon player as well at this point. Phil Rogers being the lead baseball writer for the biggest newspaper in the country's 3rd largest market has been and is a complete joke. Fantasy baseball and Phil Rodger are synonymous or it is fantasy and Phil? He never fails to complete something intelligent with something extremely stupid.
  21. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 31, 2013 -> 08:09 AM) George Brett said yesterday that "Home runs can kill rallies". That's one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Why don't the Royals just get it over with and fire their lunatic of a manager. Sox fans often take that philosophy. With the current ballpark, I believe most of the players believe that philosophy.
  22. I would assume regression just by not being in a Yankee's lineup. Even Swisher put up better numbers there.
  23. I find it boring and over done. The Sox/Cub rivalry is pretty meaningless around August. It's always the failure to capitalize on weaker teams the always haunt the Sox down the stretch.
  24. Just because Sox baseball sucks it doesn't mean this forum has to suck. After a thread like this, I almost respect guys like Marty.
  25. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 29, 2013 -> 11:03 AM) If the Sox traded Ramirez, who would play SS, not just this season, but moving forward? It is one of the most vital positions on the field. According to the brilliant Marty that player's name is I Don't Care.
