  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:25 PM) I generally understand that and I think Cubs fans do too... They've spent so many years selling on the future that they're all convinced "even if we don't make the playoffs this year we're going to start rocking the next few years and keep getting better". I still remain kinda surprised they haven't moved Baez for something. My pet theory is that on one actually likes Baez. Every fan/writer has been virtually-trading Baez for three years now. Everyone seems to understand that THEY don't want to deal with the low floor, but assume that another team will pay for the high ceiling.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) The poster said we had no top 100 position player who could contribute next year, but we clearly have one who can. There's no way Micah Johnson is considered top 100 at this point.
  3. QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:08 PM) It's not just about having the amo or making a move to make a move. The Sox knew how slim their playoff chances were this year and they weren't willing to give up any assets for a rental. It makes complete sense. Then trade Samardzija. Doing nothing made no sense to me.
  4. One thing is for sure, between choosing whether to take advantage of the market and sell or to take advantage of your big holes and buy, doing neither is absolutely the wrong choice.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) Give a name right now... What is the best offer you would make as Rick Hahn for Cespedes. GO Avisail Garcia + Chris Beck + live arm
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Yea, they're definitely not this dumb. It's pretty easy to figure out. You send Leury down, keep Bonifacio on the DL for a month until the rosters expand September 1. Sox roster is so loaded, they can't even find a place to put an upgrade!
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:48 PM) The Sox have been buzzer beaters before. The Contreras and Peavy deals were announced after the deadline had past. Find a team desperate for a starter, and desperate for some salary relief with a hitter. Lose Shark, gain a hitter, and gain some prospects. Probably the most rational move if they can pull it off. The holes the Sox have on the field are so deep that even a league average player would be a boost, thus leaving some room to add some prospect valuye whilst dealing Shark from the deepest position they have.
  8. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) Cue up the PS4! Sox: Cespedes Upton Tigers: Avi Garcia Erik Johnson Chris Reed (LAD) Padres: Saladino Zach Lee (LAD) Joe Ross (WAS) Nationals: Laroche Dodgers: Shark Dodgers current rotation is literally seven deep: Kershaw Greinke Latos Wood Anderson Bolsinger Lee
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Not when I don't see any long-term value in Avi. I don't think Avi is a good baseball player. If you look at my history of posts, I am typically very patient with prospects, etc. What I have seen from Avi, given his defensive struggles, gives me very little faith in him ever reaching anything close to his perceived "upside". I think if this team intends to compete, it needs to add a very good outfielder. I am okay with then using Avi and LaRoche in a DH roll, with Avi giving our outfielders occasional breaks. This. Jake's post is spot-on without context, but Avi blows. It isn't about young players in general, it's about continuing to pretend that Garcia is some high-end prospect, despite not a single sign of improvement as he approaches his first 1000PA in the MLB after ~2000PA in the minors. Still can't pick pitches to swing at, still can't react to balls hit to him, still takes the most confusing routes we've seen since Manny Ramirez.
  10. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 1m1 minute ago New York, USA no surprise, teams have checked back in on samardzija. chisox 3 1/2 out. still not that likely to deal him. I honestly wouldn't be upset if they dealt him. Prices seem high, and we're going to cool down.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:32 AM) WTF would we DFA him? Makes 0 sense. I was being dramatic.
  12. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) Lol you really dislike Avi. There have been plenty of young players with exceptional physical tools to struggle the first couple years of their careers and still wind up reaching their potential. It happens. I believe Avi will come along in due time. I do, very much. I acknowledge that there is a chance Avisail Garcia turns into a good player. But I also acknowledge that there is a chance every player in the MLB turns into a good player. It might happen, but it very much probably will not happen.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) Avi? They would send him to AAA before that happens. No way they get rid of him. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) He meant Leury QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:07 AM) No, he meant Avi Yep, I meant Avi. I'm being dramatic, of course. But still.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 10:03 AM) Jayson Stark ‏@jaysonst 1m1 minute ago Teams talking to #WhiteSox say they're struggling with how impact of Cespedes or Upton would impact roster. Already overloaded at OF/DH/1B DFA Garcia
  15. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) I think your right they also are trying to get the Yankees SS prospect in a deal for Kimbrel. I'm guessing Jorge Mateo?
  16. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 31, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) Don't think Correla is related to Upton. Words is Astros looking at Ross and or Kimbrel. But I'd be shocked if the Padres were only seeking a young SS in trades for some of their players on the block. I think it's more likely they're asking all teams for young SSs.
  17. So basically I assume the Padres are insisting on Anderson and we're countering with Cleuluis Rondon. And so we won't be getting Upton.
  18. Middlebrooks was the only player in the entire league I wanted less than Avisail Garcia when we traded Peavy.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 04:47 PM) Out of Upton and Cespedes, I think Upton would sign an extension of the two. No chance at all that either signs an extension before free agency.
  20. QUOTE (Mbs1969 @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) We are sellers! "Sox become buyers; acquire Sellers"
  21. Maybe it's just that he's a terrible player.
  22. I'd take the gamble if it came practically free (Single A live arm + absorb contract), but I'd not give up any of our already scarce minor league talent.
  23. It's just fun to be back in it. Wish we were in a position to actually add, though.
  24. I f***ing hate Carlos Gomez. But I've still got a pipe dream where we send Avisail Garcia as a significant part of the package to get him.
  25. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 24, 2015 -> 06:46 AM) Q is headed South IMO. Just look at his record. He is a mediocre big league starter, which is why he won't get much in a trade. lol
