QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:34 PM) No chance the sox sign him then. That's one of the top water polo schools in the nation. Must have picked him knowing they won't sign him and save some money. edit: didn't realize they can't use the slot money. It's a weird pick, unless they just did it to draft him again in a few years and create some good will. You would usually do that in the later rounds, like they did with Montes De Oca. You almost never draft anyone you couldn't sign these days and lose the slot value, there are way better use of that money.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) It usually happens in the first round. This won't be an underslot deal. This is the Sox diamond in the rough attempt. Area scout is Robbie Cummings. He probably begged the crosscheckers to vet and sign off on this relative unknown. Excellent info. Based on the fact that he's a water polo player, body type should be on the athletic side versus the Burger body type. If his baseball skills catches up, look out.

How often are high schoolers signed for under slot. If there is ever a case, this would be it.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 04:15 PM) Okay Im locking up my phone. Good talking everyone. Interesting that you're posting this after the Canadian strip club comment. Do you have somewhere to be at all of a sudden?
-
What's the report on this guy? Interesting timing to go high schooler here consider the last few picks will likely be overslot.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 01:09 PM) https://baseballdraftreport.com/2017/04/05/...ort-louisville/ So according to this, the Sox just drafted two very similar-valued pitcher 2 rounds apart.

Sounds like Johnson has a better chance to start than Henzman. If he could maintain FB in the mid 90's as a starter, this could be a high upside pick.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 13, 2017 -> 01:04 PM) Gonzo looks like a poor man's Kendall to me tool's wise. Not bad in the 3rd round and that plate discipline is pretty impressive. Don't think he's got much power in that bat though. Poor man's Kendall as in a grade down in every other tool, and one grade up in the hitting department. But this is the type of player I have more confidence that the Sox could develop versus Kendall, no complaint here for a 3rd round pick.

Between Collins, Call, Fisher, Burger, Sheet and now Gonzalez, we have now taken a bunch of polished college bats with good plate discipline. Now we just need a couple of these bats to pan out.

High school kids coming off the board fast. 6 out of the first 7 picks.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 11:21 PM) It's funny cause KD still a b**** tho Aside from Rose's ACL, Lebron is the main reason Bulls has fallen back to misery after their resurgence. So I will root for that b**** KD over Lebron any day

It's OVA. Good luck beating them the next 3 years.

DRAFT TRACKER 2017, and Day One Discussion
thxfrthmmrs replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 12, 2017 -> 07:27 PM) Seems they liked Burger as a hitter more than White....he's certainly very stocky. One of the concerns with White was not walking enough. Seems like a down to earth kid like Crede, maybe a bit more personality. Somehow, we've got to get some plus defenders on that field, though. At any rate, that pick was in there in a heartbeat. No hesitation...seems everyone knew how the first ten would fall. Watching Hiura more, not sold 100% on him, either. What did you exactly from a dude named Burger? -
I give it less than 10% chance they will be taking Kendall. With the Sox recently admitting defeat on Hawkins (demoted to Kanny), I highly doubt they want to go down that path again. I like it's more likely they go underslot than to take Kendall or Adell even if all of the top hitters are gone.

Only 3 PA before being removed. Are they just trying to ease him into things slowly?

QUOTE (maxjusttyped @ Jun 9, 2017 -> 11:27 PM) Part of why the Warriors have been allowing so many points is because of the ridiculous pace in the series. Also, LeBron and Kyrie being surrounded by this much shooting is going to score against anyone. 95-96 Bulls allowed 101.8 points per 100 possessions 16-17 Warriors allowed 104.0 points per 100 possessions I'm not trying to argue this Warriors team is/is not better than the 95 Bulls, but it's also not fair to act like the Warriors are a bad defensive team. Do you have the eFG% allowed by both teams? Because needless today, teams are taking a ton more 3 points shots in 2017.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 10, 2017 -> 09:24 PM) He'll move up with the draft. Relax. I think so too, should be a lot of movers and shakers within first two weeks after the draft.
-
I think Hansen has done enough to graduate from Kanny. 22 BB / 82 K in 66 2/3 innings seems day and night compared to the hard thrower at OU last year. He needs to be challenged at the next level.
-
I don't know if a 34-35 year old Michael in place of Lebron would have beat this Warriors team, but all I know is Michael would have guarded Durant in the 4th and taken the last shot.
-
Basabe has very similar BB and K numbers has Moncada. Basebe - 188 AB 24 BB 57K Moncada - 183 AB 24 BB 57K
-
A much needed big night from Giolito, especially after the big league pitchers got absolutely trashed last week.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jun 5, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) 4 yes, 5 they're in the conversation, as silly as that is. If they had just won one more game last year they'd already be the greatest, cementing their legacy this year. I don't have all the number in front of me, even if they win in 5, it's hard to argue that they aren't the greatest team of all time. How many teams actually went 16-1 or better in the playoffs with a better margin of victory than the Warriors currently have? That plus their regular season record and margin of victory, and credentialized by a 73 win season last year and have a better team on paper this year, it's hard to argue against that.
-
If Warriors win in 4 or 5, they will go down as the greatest team of all time. We're in the Finals and they haven't even been tested.

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 26, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) His peripherals are virtually identical to last year (exact same walk rate, striking out 1.1% less, ISO .07 down. The only difference is a nearly 60 point BABIP drop. He had an above-average BABIP in college. 132 wRC+ coming in. Wouldn't be worrying that much, although would probably like to see a little progress repeating the level. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ May 26, 2017 -> 08:18 PM) I've also seen it suggested that his patient approach will play better at the higher levels, so let's see I guess I have mentioned concern about Collins' hitting before and nothing about the past few weeks has put away those concerns. We now have enough pro ball sample size to tell how good his bat is, and it hasn't been as good as advertised thus far. His plate discipline will carry forward in upper minors, but you gotta figure with better competition, it will be harder to draw walks at this rate without hitting. QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2017 -> 08:22 PM) I agree that better umps should help him I think the improved control and command from opposing pitchers in higher levels will hurt him more than better umps would help. He will still draw walks at a good rate, but not enough to sustain an .800 OPS without actually hitting the ball.

So Tyler Flowers is now hitting .360 with strong BB and K% in over 100 PA for the Braves.
