  1. i would not trust any publication that would rank Skoug in its top 100.
  2. It's crazy to say that the Sox 11-20 may be better than some teams' top 10. Gone are the days that Nester Molina, Jared Mitchell, or even Carson Fulmer was our #1 prospect.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) What they're also doing is positioning themselves to have players, in a best case scenario, to fill every spot on the diamond. The odds of a best case scenario are slim to none. They'll have an idea after 2018 where they can splurge in free agency. Jon Lester signed with the Cubs after a season in which they went 73-89. I think the Sox will be active in free agency following next season, so long as the right pieces are on the market. Agreed. In the 2017/18 class Hosmer may be the only player I would go near as a long term. I suspect we should make a couple of savvy buy low signings and flip by the deadline to continue building the farm. But boy, the 2018/19 class... Harper and Kershaw are pipedreams but at the same time I wouldn't go after for various reasons. But we may have enough room to get both Machado and/or AJ Pollock. Adding two stars in their prime to an already deep group of young players, this team could be the favorite in this division for the 5 years after that.
  4. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 11:38 AM) I think we'll have a fun and competitive year next season as the young guys come up and start to contribute but fall short of the playoffs. But I think we'll be in the playoffs in 2019 I think we will be good (slightly better than the .500 mark) by 2019, but to be a playoff team then, we either need to sign a couple of high profile free agents, or a couple of the young guys develop into stars by then.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 13, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) Bell would've been a nice keep to see what he can do on a team like the Bulls but Jesus guys. It's the fn Summer League. Poor man's Draymond? This is madness. Undersized and mobile defender and plays with incredible energy. This type of players excel in the right system. He also gets to play in a warriors system that will certain help him develop shooting and passing skills. Plus gets to learn from Draymond himself.
  6. We now have plenty of exciting young players throughout the system, which is freshing given the state of the franchise as recent has 12 months ago. But the players aren't all on the same timeline, and by the time the lower level guys reach the majors, some of the young guys on the big league might be traded or leaves via FA. Given that, when do you think the Sox could be competitive again (and ideally making splash in FA to supplement our farm)? I've broken down each year by not the prospects arriving, but the year that they would likely start making impact. I didn't research the FA crop for each upcoming year, but if we land a big fish like Machado in an offseason, it will definitely accelerate the rebuild. Core young players currently on ML team: Rodon, Anderson, Avi?, and perhaps one of Davidson, Saladino, Sachez, and Leury 2018 - Moncada, Lopez, Delmonico 2019 - Kopech, Burdi, Giolito, and Fulmer, Guerrero, Stephens 2020 - Robert, Collins, Adams, Burger, Jimenez, Cease, Hansen, Dunning 2021 - Seth Beer, Adolfo, Flores, Nunez, others
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 11:09 PM) Pretty sure the first BA mock draft had Sox taking Happ, and IIRC had Sox taking Judge and Trout also IIRC, it was Keith Law who had us drafting Trout. Jared Mitchell wasn't even in his first round mock, where as BA had Mitchell go way before the Sox picks.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 12, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Yeah but what could that 3.5 million turn into? We don't know what happens with the money. But it clearly shows that this team does not have a good rebuilding strategy, or does not even have a strategy at all.
  9. I am afraid he could turn into a poor man's Draymond Green.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 11, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) What does opening 1B do to help OF slots? Zavala or Collins can rotate C and take up 1B to open up DH. Or a weaker defense OF'er can take up 1B as well.
  11. Most likely send Telvin Nash to AA to make 1B open. Speaking of Dickman, he's been cursed since moving out of the 9 hole.
  12. Our only move outside of Butler trade was bringing back Holiday. Teams like the Nets are taking on salary for draft picks. Bulls still are roughly $28 mil under cap even with Wade's deadweight contract are idly standing by. Can someone go wake Gar up?
  13. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 9, 2017 -> 05:20 PM) Now if Engel had bunted, we could have the start of another 9th inning rally Quit trolling.
  14. QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 8, 2017 -> 05:17 PM) He needs to get out that GAP equivalent before the DR bandits get him. It was taken in his apartment, which looks nicer than mine. And here I thought they all play in sand lots and live in raggedy shacks down in DR.
  15. GUYS HE'S OK. His instagram story an hour ago shows him trying on some tight ripped jeans.
  16. Yikes.. someone with a medical background, what could a "minor injury to meniscus" entail?
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 09:54 AM) Sort of shocked to see no Robert on either of this last 2 lists, especially the top 100. I think people just don't know here to put him. I think the new ranking of 45 for Robert is about right. Traditionally guys aren't ranked in the upper echelon without showing success in pro ball. Robert may skyrocket through the list once we get a better look at him in A ball next year.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 7, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) It's like they could've had Cleveland by the balls, especially with their 13245 picks, and yet they completely f***ed it up. They could have easily beaten the package for Butler or George. Danny Ainge got a little too cute with hoarding up draft picks. Now they're still one star short of hanging with Cleveland.
  19. Burger, Dunning, Hansen, and Robert all has a chance to crack the top 100 by year end.
  20. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 12:24 PM) The White Sox have trouble developing that type of player, anyway. Why?
  21. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 6, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) The best relievers - the tippy top -are, what 3 WAR players? Ceiling 3 WAR is not a judicious use of a first round pick. Burdi was the reputed "fastest to the majors" guy in the draft. And the Sox needed bullpen help and were taking their last "we're still in it" gasps at the time. They wouldn't have drafted him in a rebuild. But he looks like a good pitcher, so it's fine. While reliever prospects don't generate huge value in WAR, they also are more likely to reach their ceiling than other prospects, and have a higher floor as well. Burdi has had a rough couple of weeks after a strong start, and has settled down nicely the past few outings since the rough patch. At present, he's still a usable bullpen arm if promoted today, and could soon enough develop into an elite reliever with a bit more seasoning. Obviously you'd pick a quality positional prospect if one was available, but instead you got prospect who is much more likely to reach their ceiling than your true first round pick Zach Collins. I am not complaining about that at all.
  22. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 10:43 AM) Based on our minor league position player talent being a couple years away I would strongly consider resigning both Only reason you would want to bring them back is if you think they will be around for the next playoff team. We're still in a rebuild, no reason to bring them back.
  23. QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 06:03 PM) You're discounting teams with young stars getting better. That's a bad assumption. Name those teams here and come back in 10 months and we will see if they were any threat to the Cavs.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 04:00 AM) No, I don't think it will be any easier than it's been the last few years. Just have to hope that certain teams improve, I guess. People keep talking about how stacked the west is. Guess what? Nobody is beating Golden State, either. Cleveland/GS part 4 is pretty much a lock. It's not easier than any of the past few years because it was a cakewalk in years past as well. There is no denying that the East has been incredibly weak the past 6-7 years outside of Lebron's team, and it certainly has not gotten better this offseason. '14 Pacers got by with a historically good defense, but they only had one star. You can't win in the playoffs without another guy who could get his own shot. There are now 11 legit playoff caliber teams in the West versus maybe 5 in the East. If you were to make an all star team in the West, guys like Whiteside, Porzingis, and Jabari Parker will get in for the East, while guys like Butler or George might not even make the team in the West, Millsap would not even make the snub section. That's how much more talented the West is compared to East.
  25. They haven't really had a save opportunity in a while. As long as they keep winning, they will hold off on getting help until more teams become sellers.
