  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 12, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) I wonder if the Hawks are scouting this guy? He looks like he has a nice scoring touch. http://www.sbnation.com/lookit/2014/5/12/5...ng-hockey-video Wow. Not sure what's more impressive, Putin's 6 goal 5 assist game or Kim Jong-Il's round of golf where he shot 38 under par with 11 hole in ones during his first and only time playing golf.
  2. The bullpen has been lights out over the past 2+ weeks. I think on the ESPN broadcast last night they said that they were under a 1.50 ERA over the last 18 games or something like that.
  3. QUOTE (flavum @ May 7, 2014 -> 08:39 PM) Buehrle, 6-1, 1.91 At this point last year he was 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA. He didn't get his 6th win until July 25 and still ended up with 12 wins. It would be awesome to see him have a 18-20 win season. He needs a couple of those type seasons if he wants to have any chance at 300 wins. He's now just 8 wins away from 200 and 70.1 IP away from 3000.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 6, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) I wonder if they'd ever have an Ernie Banks appreciation day on the South Side. Or Billy Williams. Or Ron Santo since he played for the Sox? Why would they ever do that? That would make about as much sense as an NBA team other than the Bulls retiring Jordan's number. Oh wait.
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 6, 2014 -> 02:59 PM) i disliked you a lot between 2:57 and 2:58, but I am over it now Can't you just use your admin abilities to delete his post and make everyone think you posted it first? Or would that be an abuse of power?
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 6, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Adam Dunn seems like a very nice guy but he's been 'stealing' money from the White Sox during his pathetic tenure on the South Side. Why can't some just accept the fact that some of us fans despise what he's done in the batter's box and on the field for the White Sox? If you all like Dunn, fine. Some of us think he's been horribly bad and a symbol of our franchise's decline in the standings. Greg, you are like a broken record.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 6, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) He was super nonchalant about absolutely everything. He was never going to get Samardzija but everything he did just looked so unprofessional out there. Plus he had all of those awkward stretches at 1B. You have to wonder what kind of shape this guy is in. I do have to say, on that play that he stretched for the high throw that ended up being reviewed, if that were Konerko or Abreu out there the runner would be safe.
  8. The guy has a .900 OPS this year and has looked like the real Adam Dunn. This is nothing more than getting his bat in the lineup even if it does mean sacrificing a little defense.
  9. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:48 PM) Dunn didn't even try to make a play to the plate. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:49 PM) He couldn't be bothered. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 5, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) Hilarious in a sad kind of way. Bo Jackson wouldnt have had a shot to get him on that play.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 5, 2014 -> 02:45 PM) You can't play Adam Dunn in left field, you just can't. He's a big ox, with all due respect. It's two games. It's not like anybody is advocating starting him there the rest of the season.
  11. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 5, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Pitcher is in the lineup, so there's a really good chance he gets a PH appearance in both games. Probably get the start Wednesday with Travis Wood pitching as well.
  12. I wonder if we'll see Dunn in left tonight or tomorrow. Hate to take his bat out of the lineup as good as he's hitting.
  13. I don't understand how the cost of tickets is even an excuse. Tickets, through the White Sox site, start at $7 ($5 on Sundays) for the upper corners. Better tickets can be had for just a few dollars more. A family of four can get tickets and parking for $48. That's basically the same cost as going to a movie. Sure concessions can get expensive, but then don't buy them. And really, you can eat a meal at the park for basically the same cost as going to McDonald's or Burger King.
  14. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) I disagree. Who will lose rookie eligibility? Semien, probably. Leury for sure. EJ might not at this point. Davidson probably won't at this pointAvisail had already lost it. It may be only Semien in the top 5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 2, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) Davidson was on the ML roster for 51 days. Does he have any left? Rookie eligibility is lost when a player reaches 50 IP, 130 AB or 45 days on the active roster before September 1. EJ went over 50 innings. He will not be considered a rookie after this year even if he doesn't come back up at all this year. MD is still a rookie as he didn't come up until August last year so he only has 20 or so days service time before September 1 and hasn't reached the 130 AB threshhold yet.
  15. QUOTE (black jack @ Apr 30, 2014 -> 06:30 AM) I like this idea. They can even have the DH role rotating between a number of players. Getting extra rest for guys while keeping them still sharp in the box. Not unlike what Ozzie wanted when he dropped Thome. And just how well did that rotating DH work out for us? Might have cost us the division. Nearly every player that you hear talk about DHing says it's not as nearly as easy as people think. You can't just plug somebody in and expect them to adapt and succeed.
  16. This is probably the most fun I've had watching the Sox since 2010 when they went on that 26-5 tear starting the day the Hawks clinched the Stanley Cup.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:45 PM) Any players gotten bigger numbers than that outside of arbitration, pre-free agency? Ryan Howard got 15, 19 in what would have been years 2 and 3 of arbitration. Only one that comes to mind. If Abreu opts out I would certainly think the Sox would try to avoid arb and sign him to a nice extension.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:46 PM) https://twitter.com/JKeppinger/status/460895465379086336 Oh, really? Noooooooo!
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 04:26 PM) Kinda sad but I'm already thinking about the fact that he can opt for arbitration when eligible, that will put a damper on the $11M AAV that every baseball reporter in America is throwing around right now. He'll make $10M in his 3rd year, given that he's guaranteed only $10.5M in his 4th, he's a lock to opt out and go for a big pay day in arbitration if he's anywhere near as badass of a hitter as we believe. First year arb eligible position player arb record is $10 million, third year is $15. If he's as good as we think he'll probably break the records but will anybody be too upset if we have to pay him say 13, 16, 19 in his arb years? He would be worth every penny.
  20. Even if the Sox are in contention come July, they will probably not be "buyers" per say. They would most likely stay pat and are not going to be willing to trade anything of significant value during a rebuild. Now if somebody becomes available that they can get for minor league scrubs, they may be willing to explore that.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 25, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Olympian Meghan Duggan before throwing out first pitch at last night's Red Sox/Yankees game: Yes between the Lester, Buchholz, Ortiz, Ramirez and Schilling situations, it is definitely appropriate and necessary to make fun of the Yankees for the Pineda situation.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 03:20 PM) Between being taken apart by a 29 year old rookie and sloppy play on the field I wonder if this isn't one of those games the Rays just aren't here for, instead looking ahead to their travel later or something like that. Which might well be something you can hang on the manager. Wouldn't be the first time they've had something of an "offday" under Maddon right before travel. Mark Buehrle turned one of those into a perfect game. Its a 4 gamer . They play tomorrow too.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 26, 2014 -> 08:58 AM) Wow. That is one of my all-time favorite baseball memories. That was off of Goose Gossage. Was that the one where The Big Hurt grabbed him around the legs and pick him up in celebration?
