  1. QUOTE (scs787 @ Dec 12, 2013 -> 09:44 AM) 1) Omar Narvaez: Another graduate from the Rays Venezuelan baseball academy, Narvaez showed serious hitting skills in the VSL in his two years there. In 2009 he went .315/.390/.394 and in 2010 he was .308/.420/.371. It is very hard to predict how players coming from the VSL will perform when they come stateside. There are few pro scouting reports available on players and the league is comprised of teenagers. The one thing that stands out about Narvaez immediately though, is the fact that in his three minor league seasons he has never struck out more than he's walked. That is impressive at any level, and is certainly indicative of a good batting eye and an ability to make consistent contact. He has shown little power to this point, but his on base skills more than make up for that and he is still growing into his body. Narvaez also possesses good catch and throw skills, having thrown out basestealers at an above 50 percent clip for three straight seasons. Narvaez is a very intriguing player, and there is a lot to like from what he has shown so far in the organization. Sounds rather intriguing. Jason Kendall comp?
  2. If the Sox acquire a legit major league catcher (Castro, etc) then Flowers and Phegley have to know they are ticketed for AAA. So assue the Sox do acquire Castro (highly unlikely, but).. MLB: Castro Nieto AAA: Flowers Phegley Gimenez Narvaez
  3. Padres trade Anthony Bass to the Astros. I watched a couple of his starts against the Dodgers in the 2012 season. He is nasty. Just can't stay healthy. Sinker/Slider guy I wish the Sox could have gotten their hands on somehow.
  4. If Justin Smoak wasn't so "meh" he might have been a nice target had the Sox not signed Konerko and were stuck with Dunn. That's a lot of ifs.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:44 PM) The same Kendrys Morales who hit 43 doubles and 34 homers and a .924 OPS as a 26 year old and was doing more of the same the next season until he broke his leg during a walk off homer celebration? No.
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 02:20 PM) They arent moving Seager....and the Nationals trade just a few minutes ago is probably a bad sign for the LH reliever market. Probably asking for too much. There is actually a hack in MLB The Show 2013 where it is now impossible to trade for Seager.
  7. Santos Rodriguez... Charlie Leesman... Leyson Septimo... David Purcey... Donnie Veal... I think we are in good shape in regards to terrible lefthanded pitchers.
  8. Dayan Viciedo is the present day version of Kendrys Morales. The Angels waited for 5 years for him to reach his advertised potential, which he never reached. He also can't play defense and is a terrible baserunner. I would use him as a measuring stick in regards to trade value, which the additional value being in Viciedo's youth and relatively low pre-FA cost.
  9. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) Sox helping out an old buddy by getting the Dodgers to bid against themselves??? They offered him a one-year deal and "are wating for him to decide" After the last 3 year deal they signed with Uribe, I doubt they go more than a year and I doubt they are competing for his "services". Uribe has value to the Didgers beyond his play on the field. Apparently (well, from what I've read as a Dodgers fan) Uribe was the player that got in Puig's face when he would act out. And the two are pretty tight friends as a result. So, yea... there's that.
  10. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 12:27 PM) Thanks man. I appreciate that a lot. Heh. I hope you could tell by the level and tone of insult that I was being a jag for comedy's sake.
  11. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 12:08 PM) I figured my idea would immediately get crapped on. Instead I get vomit. Close anyway. Different holes though. Your idea is the equivelent to vomit that was eaten by a ferril animal, subjected to a digestive cycle, and then shat back out.
  12. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 12:03 PM) My ideal framework: Reed + maybe smaller piece/prospect for Large 1-2yr remaining salary we can fit into payroll + 4 guys in A+ or below all of which have real ability. What the hell does this trade actually provide to the Sox in value? So trade a proven MLB relief pitcher making league minimum and another prospect, for four guys in A ball and an expensive, probably unwanted, veteran contract? *vomit*
  13. Hola Admins! Can I change my screen name back to my login accout? That was "Charlie Haeger's Knuckles" Thanks!
  14. this thread made my sabergina become moist.
  15. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 08:37 PM) Where you speaking to him in an adjacent bathroom stall while squeezing one out? Hemeroids? I am a "billable resource" at my "place of employment" and I billed 3 hours today out of the 8 I sat at my desk. *shrug* Yea, today was a killer for the productivity.
  16. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I like Eaton for Santiago straight up. What is Arizona thinking? Trumbo is Adam Dunn. They could have gotten him from us for a lot less. They already had Adam Dunn in 2008 for about 3 weeks after the non-waiver deadline passed, meaning he cleared waivers. I doubt they wanted him back. I dont get this deal at all for AZ. That's a lot to give up for a one-dimmensional player.
  17. QUOTE (elwood5892 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) @AndrewRickli: Just heard the #Angles, #Dbacks and #whitesox blockbuster is done. Don't know who this person is but Rosenthal follows them so there you go. I dont understand why someone who works for the Orioles (according to his twitter profile) would be reporting baseball rumors. The Dodgers official twitter account follows him too *shrug* EDIT; got my facts wrong, looks like he works for MLB Network.
  18. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) I'm still trying to figure out why everybody is so anxious to get rid of a 26 year old starting pitcher who is 4 years away from free agency and has a 126 ERA+ in 224 innings. Agreed 100%. He is super durable, is only going to get better as he matures as a major league pitcher, and he is a badass motherf***er off the field. Whatever team he ends up on, I will buy his jersey T.
  19. holy s***, his option is $4m
  20. According to the press release it is a major league deal (1.75m) with an option for 2015. *shrug* So this is the end for Floyd then? No "let's hope his rehab turns out ok while he consumes a 40 man roster spot and we get no value added to the team until he is ready" contract for ol' Gavin?
  21. Someone replied to Passan's tweet about the price tag for Chris Sale being higher than David Price with "So what you are saying is Sale is more expensive than regular Price?" yuck yuck yuck
  22. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) No. If you move Sale you get the absolute best package possible. Why move two starters in the same trade if it doesn't help us get better? I am flinging s*** at the wall... much like the sports media right now. Sale won't be traded. Duh!
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) I don't trade Danks. Selling low on someone who has minimal value right now? Doesn't make sense. Let him build his value back up. Package him up with Chris Sale similar to the Hanley/Beckett trade (Mike Lowell) and the Cabrera trade (Dontrelle Willis) *shrug*
  24. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Per MLBtraderumors.com McCann, Ellsbury and now Beltran. The Yankees will sacrifice a third-round draft pick as compensation for signing Beltran. New York has now given up its first, second and third round picks in next year's draft (though they'll get two picks after the first round for losing Cano and Curtis Granderson). Red Sox also re-signing Napoli 2/$32M . Beltran Ellsbury Soriano Ichiro Gardner Johnson (though I assume he plays second base now) Who gets traded? Gardner would look nice in a Sox uniform, and the Yannkees still owe us one for that Swisher trade (or was that payback for Contreras?).....
