  1. Was looking through the Sox 40-man roster to see some of the new players' numbers and noticed that Nieto took #32... which means that either Adam Dunn is no longer on the roster (pipe dream) or he changed his number. Dunn is now #44. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw that 32 was taken and it took a few seconds while still in cardiac arrest to find my way down to Adam Dunn's name on the roster.
  2. OMG GUYS... LEAVE ADAM ALONE!!!

Did he change it?
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 05:47 PM) If it did, I am sure he had COBRA or some sort of alternate coverage. Didn't he have enough service time in the majors to qualify for the players union "for life" benefits?
  5. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) I wonder if the Dodgers ever discussed a Sale-esque extension 2-3 years ago with Kershaw or if he was always looking ahead to a big payday. They did and he turned them down. Even before the team's sale.
  6. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) FWIW Rick Renteria already went out and bought Rosetta Stone Japense after meeting him. https://mobile.twitter.com/GDubCub/status/423913674848231424 But yes a translator is able to come out for mound visits, but let's be real all Japenese kids are taught English in school. So I'm sure he speaks enough to get by. I can't imagine they'd be discussing the merits of drop-D tuning, LCD/Plasma TV tech or even quantum physics. The English vocabulary required during a mound visit is likely very limited. I see it going a little something like this: DC: Does your arm hurt? MT: No. or.... DC: This guy likes fastballs inside. Do NOT throw him a fastball inside. MT: OK. or.... in the case of the Don Cooper we all know and hear on the radio with great regularly.... DC: Stop dicking around and throw strikes! MT: OK.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 10, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) http://gkfb.blogspot.com/2013/01/another-h...-his-mouth.html Motherf***ing win. Ain't nothin' gonna bring Frank down.
  8. This poll's results remind me of "that one person" who downvotes Kate Upton videos on youtube.
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 7, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) We have found the asshole. Ken Gurnick, Dodgers beat reporter on MLB.com, did not vote for Greg Maddux. In fact, he refuses to vote for any player who happened to play in the PED era. He voted for one player, Jack Morris. Gurnick should not be allowed to ever attend another baseball game in his life. Is this the same Dodgers beat writer that gave Chris Sale his first place Cy Young vote?
  10. I've posted in the 1,016 "We need a catcher" threads that priority ONE for the Sox offense should be to acquire Jason Castro. But I am just a fan. Some of the reading I have done on Castro would suggest that A) he isn't great defensively, B) he can't stay healthy for a full season and might be ticketed for 1B/DH later in his career and C) he will want to go to free agency (limiting his long term value to the team trading for him. Wait, thats 3 things not 2.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 3, 2014 -> 12:28 AM) So how selfish is it for a guy to take a shot at a co-worker and hide, while not giving the guy a chance to explain himself? People don't get promoted by playing fair.
  12. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 04:06 PM) Jon Gilmore was seemingly out of professional baseball last year. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=gilmor001jon Yikes... those 2012 stats are horrendous. OK - so we are down to Flowers.
  13. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 2, 2014 -> 02:29 PM) It would be nice to get him. And I thought Molina or Heath would go before he did. Oh well I guess. I am wondering if they will outright him off the roster if/after he clears waivers or release him. His BB/9 was scary bad at AAA last year. Have the Sox cut ties with Jon Gilmore yet? If so, that would leave Flowers as the lone remnant of the Vazquez trade.
  14. Wow. I thought Santos was one of these "upside" guys with upper-90s stuff. Maybe Sox now move on to signing O'flaherty?? He's a ground ball guy with a very high LOB% *shrug*
  15. Puig played RF last year and he hit like 800, so he probably skewed the stats for RF.
  16. Miguel Gonzalez was outrighted off of the 40-man. I doubt they actually "like him" or that his "stock is rising"
  17. Wow. Cool for Youk. Life experience is right. I'm jealous.
  18. Ya I was wondering this myself. Eaton's #6 is retired. Davidson's #24 is taken. Downs' #32 is taken.
  19. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 19, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) Oh, I agree, but I was getting kind of long winded and I like making fun of myself. FWIW, here are the numbers of other candidates for the bullpen and pitching staff in general (and I wouldn't even put these down, except that ground ball rates stabilize quickly, so these are going to be pretty indicative of the type of pitcher they are) Webb - 56.3%, 11.1 IP Petricka - 62.9%, 19.1 IP Veal - 52.6%, 29.1 IP (and 47.1% over 58.2 career IP) Leesman - 57.4%, 15.1 IP Rienzo - 47.8%, 56 IP Johnson - 46.4%, 27.2 IP The other 47% of Veal's left the park.
  20. So who is the second lefty/loogy? If they want a 20-win improvement, they will need to replace Veal with a major league pitcher.
  21. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:10 AM) Is it possible he got them mixed up and meant John but said Jordan? It was Richard Justice. He was speaking more towards "youthful core" of the team and the roster turnover. Jordan Danks is certainly younger than the aging veteran Kenny Williams probably would have acquired to be the 4th OFer. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) Nope he said the sox staff after sale was crap. That was Mitch Williams who said that. He clearly doesn't/hasn't watch(ed) Quintana's starts. He is a closet Tigers fan and a giant toolbag when it comes to analyzing the AL Central. MLB Network's coverage of the Sox is typically pretty bad. They are very misinformed regarding the Sox minor league / younger non-star players.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:29 AM) Only pitched 3 games there. He was OK. http://bis.npb.or.jp/eng/players/83385135.html He was awful in Boston's system last year. He is essentially Dylan Axelrod. I dont think he really needs to actually be good. Just pitch innings. A mid-4 ERA with 150 IP is probably all they can expect from him.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) What would probably happen is that they'd play Konerko as the everyday DH to start the season, not give him enough time off, and then wind up with other guys sliding into that role when Konerko starts hurting. Depends on what they get back for Dunn as well.
