  1. QUOTE (elwood5892 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) @AndrewRickli: Just heard the #Angles, #Dbacks and #whitesox blockbuster is done. Don't know who this person is but Rosenthal follows them so there you go. I dont understand why someone who works for the Orioles (according to his twitter profile) would be reporting baseball rumors. The Dodgers official twitter account follows him too *shrug* EDIT; got my facts wrong, looks like he works for MLB Network.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 01:29 PM) I'm still trying to figure out why everybody is so anxious to get rid of a 26 year old starting pitcher who is 4 years away from free agency and has a 126 ERA+ in 224 innings. Agreed 100%. He is super durable, is only going to get better as he matures as a major league pitcher, and he is a badass motherf***er off the field. Whatever team he ends up on, I will buy his jersey T.
  3. holy s***, his option is $4m
  4. According to the press release it is a major league deal (1.75m) with an option for 2015. *shrug* So this is the end for Floyd then? No "let's hope his rehab turns out ok while he consumes a 40 man roster spot and we get no value added to the team until he is ready" contract for ol' Gavin?
  5. Someone replied to Passan's tweet about the price tag for Chris Sale being higher than David Price with "So what you are saying is Sale is more expensive than regular Price?" yuck yuck yuck
  6. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 02:04 PM) No. If you move Sale you get the absolute best package possible. Why move two starters in the same trade if it doesn't help us get better? I am flinging s*** at the wall... much like the sports media right now. Sale won't be traded. Duh!
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 9, 2013 -> 01:57 PM) I don't trade Danks. Selling low on someone who has minimal value right now? Doesn't make sense. Let him build his value back up. Package him up with Chris Sale similar to the Hanley/Beckett trade (Mike Lowell) and the Cabrera trade (Dontrelle Willis) *shrug*
  8. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:56 PM) Per MLBtraderumors.com McCann, Ellsbury and now Beltran. The Yankees will sacrifice a third-round draft pick as compensation for signing Beltran. New York has now given up its first, second and third round picks in next year's draft (though they'll get two picks after the first round for losing Cano and Curtis Granderson). Red Sox also re-signing Napoli 2/$32M . Beltran Ellsbury Soriano Ichiro Gardner Johnson (though I assume he plays second base now) Who gets traded? Gardner would look nice in a Sox uniform, and the Yannkees still owe us one for that Swisher trade (or was that payback for Contreras?).....
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) What are the chances Seattle would go for a Santiago for Franklin trade? Probably almost none. They have 3 left handed starters (either in MLB already or who are ready) that are better than Santiago.
  10. Seattle has a really good young core. This move likely will pay off in the short term. Long term? Yucky. Their rotation as-is (meaning before a deal for David Price) has a chance to be the best in baseball. Felix, Walker, Iwakuma, Paxson, Hultzen, Ramirez... Bullpen is deep as well. Franklin, Miller, Seager, Zunino... and now Cano. They need outfield bats, not another starting pitcher.
  11. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) Gordon Beckham is 27 with 2,000+ AB's in the MLB and owns a .249/.314/.380 slash. He has 0 trade value. Only scenario I could see Beckham being traded is if its a swap of another teams failed prospect The Sox got Matt Thornton for Joe Borchard. What the Sox value in pitchers on the trade market is not dissimilar to what some orgs value in position players. Youth, athleticism, draft pedigree, promise. Just because he is 27 doesn't mean is a lost cause. I think Beckham needs a change of address, but that is my fear as well. Trade him to the Dodgers and he turns into Jeff Kent. That'd be our luck.
  12. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 12:29 PM) No chance. Seattle just pushed the chips in. They'll be trading prospects, not anyone that can contribute immediately. *sadface* Now I need to rethink my MLB the Show trade philosophy....
  13. Seager is pretty awesome and has the trajectory to be a Saber wetdream. I DOUBT seattle trades him now that they've committed 10 years to "winning" baseball.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 08:45 PM) And you just know somehow that Salty signing will work out for the Rays...with a few exceptions, they've been very astute with their limited free agent budgets in the last decade. Pat Burrell was one of the few that backfired. Manny Ramirez and Johnny Damon both went on to have MVP-caliber seasons in Tampa.
  15. Typical Belisario outing for the dodgers went like this... Comes into game with a 3 run lead, clean inning. Bottom of the order. Walks the first batter on 4 pitches well out of the zone. Grooves a fastball on the first pitch to the second batter and gives up a base hit to put runners on the corners with no outs. Hits the third batter in the back on the first pitch. Mattingly puts in Paco Rodriguez who promptly gives up a grand slam.
  16. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! As I've stated in other threads... I am a big Dodgers fan. Almost as much a Dodgersfan as Sox fan. Belisario is terrible. He is incredibly frustrating to watch. What was even more frustrating to watch was Don Mattingly's continued use of him in high-leverage late inning situations. And now, as a Sox fan I have to watch him load the bases in the eighth inning. Hopefully he will have a short leash. *puke*
  17. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) Wes Whisler Craig Italiano Chad Huffman Kyle Lotzker Seth Lintz Brooks Pounders Todd Cunningham Dwight Smith Collin Wiles Andrew Knapp The last 10 #53 picks. The draft pick should not be a deterrent in signing Granderson. For a historical perspective, here are some players taken at or after the 53rd pick... NOT choosen by the white sox. Yunel Escobar (23.2 WAR) Chase Headley (17.5 WAR) Giancarlo Stanton (14.8 WAR) Trevor Cahill (11.0 WAR) Justin Masterson (11.0 WAR) Jason Kipnis (11.0 WAR) Freddie Freeman (9.3 WAR) Drew Smyly (4.2 WAR) Nolan Arenado (3.9 WAR) Jedd Gyorko (2.2 WAR) Other second round picks (taken before #53) Jordan Zimmermann Chris Tillman Jacob Petricka and Erik Johnson are both second round picks who likely will provide significant contributions to the Sox in 2014. From 2009-2013, Curtis Granderson has amassed 18.4 WAR averaging 3.7 WAR per season. Considering his injuries last season and two "breakout seasons" prior, I think it is a fair comp of what he would provide to the Sox. So, let's assume the Sox sign him for 3/42, the Sox will pay Granderson aproximately 1m per win share. Compared to a "best case scenario" second round pick (based on averaging out the WAR of the list above), the Sox would be paying $200,000 per win share. This is all assuming the White draft someone that actually makes it to the majors. (BIG IF). I'm torn. *shrug*
  18. QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 11:03 PM) ...the going rate for middle relievers are going for 4 or 5 million nowadays. or Seth Smith.
  19. Couple things... If the Sox view Semien as an every day player and not a bench/role player, then it does him no good being a once-a-week guy on the bench If anything, it could potentially help Abreu having Konerko around. As players they are similar in profile (one dimmensional, power/on-base guys). The White Sox aren't winning anything next year, so what harm does it do allowing the Franchise guy a proper "farewell season" with "his" team? I dig it. *shrug*
  20. For those of you who are bored by the lack of White Sox roster news, someone is having fun on Wikipedia editing Sox players' pages with some pretty funny stuff. From Keppinger's page: And Veal:
  21. Seriously folks, let's settle down. On December 9th (or whenever his "I'll let you know" date is), the Sox will re-sign Paul Konerko.... so we've got that going for us.
  22. 10% walk rate.... *shrug* SABER!
  23. the Diamondbacks got rid of Heath Bell without having to eat any of his salary, which is a big win... similar to the Sox trading Mark Teahen.
