  1. Unless Detroit goes on some kind of incredible run and the Sox go entirely into the tank, it's hard to see the Sox being more than 5 games out of first at the trading deadline. Right now the second best run differential in the division is -3, and between now and July 31 the Sox have 14 games against last place teams (and I'm not even counting Boston, who is in last place but is .500)
  2. The fans never get it right, but imagine this lineup, current OPS noted. 1 Cabrera SS .886 2 Jackson OF .958 3 Hamilton OF 1.201 4 Konerko 1B 1.139 5 Dunn DH .964 6 Jones OF .948 7 Trumbo 3B .920 8 Pierzynski C .890 9 Cano 2B .868
  3. Either David Wright or a good starting pitcher would make sense, but I don't know what the Sox are going to give up that will net them that kind of talent.
  4. Unlike Konerko, Dunn actually has a chance at getting voted in.
  5. Sox' best chance of having a player voted in as a starter = Dunn Paulie has no chance at 1B. Fans are stupid.
  6. With those weather conditions in that park, I think any starting pitcher was going to have an off day.
  7. My average tip is 18-22%. I have noticed a MAJOR decline in the quality of service in restaurants recently. Up until 2-3 years ago, there might have been 1-2 occasions a year where the service was so poor that I tipped less than 18%. The past couple years, it has been more like once a month.
  8. Nor can we have Dunn, Ramirez, Fukudome, Escobar, Beckham, Morel, or Lillibridge facing lefties. We'll just have AJ catch, PK play the entire infield, and Viciedo cover the entire outfield.
  9. Wait a minute, I thought the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
  10. I agree that Paulie is not going to bat .381 nor slug .633 this season, but it isn't just a fluke that he's putting up these insane numbers this season. Paulie has always been an elite fastball hitter. Guy batting before Paulie with an OBP near .400 = Paulie sees more fastballs Guy batting after Paulie with a SLG near .500 = Paulie sees more fastballs Pitchers, especially righties, really don't want to walk Paulie when there's usually a guy on base (who probably walked himself) and AJ lurking on deck. They aren't going to throw him as many off-speed pitches If Dunn and AJ continue to produce at the same rates, which isn't too much of a stretch, then Paulie will continue to see a lot of fastballs at the plate.
  11. October 1, 2012, the day the Sox clinch a WC.
  12. I'm guessing the Dodgers had higher expectations for him than the Sox have now. All he has to do now is be better than Brent Morel.
  13. Best 1B in MLB so far this season: 1 Konerko 2 LaHair 3 Votto 4 Dunn
  14. I don't know how much the ACC has pressed it, but it has been discussed. Getting Pittsburgh and Syracuse was done partially to make the conference more attractive to ND. I had heard rumors that right before the ACC first robbed the Big East in 2004 (Maimi, VT), Notre Dame and Texas were proposing a 12-team national superconference: West: Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Texas, Texas A&M East: Duke, UNC, Notre Dame, Boston College, Virginia, Miami That would have been something.
  15. Never had more than one beer at a Sox game if I was driving. There's this handy thing called the 'L' that takes people home without having to drive. I'm in favor of having two 'levels' of DUI. As it stands now (in every state I know of) someone who is .09 and someone who is .18 are both committing the exact same crime, but I think we'd all agree that the person who is .18 is much more likely to cause an injury/death and to some extent is making a much more irresponsible decision by driving.
  16. No, not a basketball guy, just really like the movie Hoosiers. My background is in call center/customer service management. Haven't seen too many jobs in that field available in the Lafayette area.
  17. When I lived in Chicago, I was part of a group of friends that went camping at Turkey Run every Memorial Day weekend. It's anywhere from 3-4 hours, depending on where in Chicago you are. One of if not the best state park in Indiana.
  18. You would have to help hook me up with a job though. It's the only way I'd be able to convince my wife to live in Benton Co.
  19. Congrats. I am looking for a new job in the northern half of the state and do have a left-handed son who will be a freshman in 2022-23.
  20. It's a pet peeve of mine when someone who is paid to write about baseball doesn't understand the difference between at-bats and plate appearances. Dunn did not have 11 at-bats in the weekend series. He had eight at-bats with two hits, and an additional six plate appearances that resulted in walks.
  21. I have a pretty good source that tells me that ND is not seriously considering joining the Big 12. Too much of an alumni base in the Midwest and Northeast to join any conference other than the Big Ten or ACC.
  22. I truly fell bad for Barry. Only 65 years old and he's seen all three of his younger brothers die.
  23. I guess it depends on what you mean by 'advocating for unions'. In the public sector, I think unions are a terrible idea because the employer (government) has no real bargaining power with regards to the employees, since they are required by law to provide their service and the people footing the bill (taxpayers) have no real way to reign in the union. In the private sector, companies have to weigh profits against employee satisfaction and morale, and so long as government regulations don't tilt the playing field too far in either direction, the economics of the situation create a natural balance between the two sides.
