Really dumb markets question: Why do super-low oil prices drag down all of the markets? Very annoying that I can't get cheap gas and 401k growth at the same time.
You can't really sign a pitcher to "back up" EJ/Danks. Any starter that is going to sign is going to expect to start, at which point you're committing to either releasing Danks or sending EJ to AAA.
Depends on the kind of deals they got. If they both got 4+ years, yeah I'd have a problem with committing that long to two guys who might not pan out. If you can get one of them on a 3 year deal, then that would be better.
I think the only way Buehrle comes here is if he doesn't get an offer from the Cards. Even if they offer him some sort of pittance like $5 million, I think he takes it because he wants to play for them so badly. If they never offer that, then maybe he comes here for $8-10 million.
In terms of raw value, yes, but it just made the outfield defense horrible all around, unless there's another move that nets a CF, moving Eaton to RF, Ethier to LF, and Melky to DH.
My best guess so far is Ethier (plus cash?) and Frazier to Sox, Montas and May to Dodgers, unkown Dodgers stuff to Reds, possibly whatever Dodgers stuff the Reds were going to get for Chapman.
