Something has to be done to improve the rotation
mataipaepae replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 09:46 AM) Gavin needs to ditch the damn cutter. Just saw the Tigers are looking into acquiring Quentin & the Tribe have their eyes on Soriano since Damon is stinking up the joint. We need to get this rotation fixed going forward if we want to stay in this race throughout the summer. Oh geez the tigers just might have the worst defense in the history of baseball. Adding quinton makes it even worse. I hope the tigers do make the move -
QUOTE (spiderman @ Jun 8, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Who are the prospects? Mitchell is playing better, but hasn't he dropped off the top prospect radar? I think it's reasonable to have high expectations for Hawkins, but the rest of the propsects are guys like Jordan Danks, right? I liter ther thompson kids also. I thought he showed a lot in the spring.
-
Thompson is the one I am excited for. I think he has a ton of talent and looked good in spring.

White Sox have flipped from sellers to buyers

I wonder if the mets would be interested in gavin floyd, jordan danks, nestor molina or simon castro, and a lower level prospect or two for david wright? I like quintana over floyd right now. And weight as the number two hitter would be great. -
Ventura "Thornton the leader to close"

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 25, 2012 -> 12:37 PM) Thinking about it, this is probably Kenny's way of trying to increase the bidding on Matt. i hope so... because we see how matt looked last year and it wasn't pretty. -
how about giving this guy a 1 year deal and see if he can be our centerfielder and leadoff? if he can remain healthy he could really help out our offense alot.
-
where is the same approach with rios? why not start de aza in center with viciedo in right the rest of the year?
-
Lets trade CQ and Thornton to Pittsburgh for Pedro Alvarez and some minor league players. Alvarez is a good fielder with a huge arm and big bat. Fielders; C- flowers 1B- konerko 2B- Beckham SS- Ramirez 3B- Alvarez LF- Rios CF- de aza RF- viciedo DH- dunn 4th outfielder- lillibridge 3B- Morel utility IF- vizquel if he retires bring up escobar from AAA that is a great fielder. Can play SS or 2B. C- Castro good mentor for flowers. Pitchers; Beurhle Peavy Danks Floyd Sale Bullpen Santos Cain frasor Ohman Santiago Reed We might as well start going young if we are just going to be .500

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 07:05 PM) Nope, the Pirates need players they can control at LEAST 3-4 years. That doesn't fit with what's really best for their long-term interests. At least the Indians have Jimenez for 3 years at "cheap" rates. Ok lets say they agree to contracts before the trade. Judist some of you are specific Sally's! Good grief open your imagination some.
-
Ok scrap the David Wright idea. How about Pedro Alvarez from the pirates. CQ and Danks for Alvarez and some prospects.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 7, 2011 -> 03:53 PM) Ok, first of all don't be surprised if people give you some hell for the spelling of some of our players, people are pretty touchy about that. Secondly, you cannot "trade" Buehrle as he is a free agent at the end of the year, so please drop this idea. Third, since AJ backloaded his contract and will be paid 6M next season, it's going to be tough getting a taker for that price unless the Sox were willing to kick in 2-3M or so in that deal. Also remember AJ is a 10/5 guy now too so he'd have to accept the trade if I am not mistaken. Yes, it appears we have some options for 2012 and can make some moves in the offseason and even possibly "rebuild on the run" next year, it could be a totally different looking starting rotation, and the options you discuss there are legitimate IMO. That's why I showed Danks getting tradedto the Mets and Beurhle as our starter. I think aj needs to be traded. I think floaters gives us everything aj does especially with Castro as his backup. He seemed to call a good game with Peavy today. Sure aj probably gives us a better batting average (.270) while flowers might be lower (.250) but he will give us 15-20 more homeruns and more speed on the base to go from 1st to 3rd.

Flowers, de aza, Stewart, and sale have all shown some good things since the being called up or in sale case the start of the year. Flowers- if he continues to improve the rest of the year I would love to see him get the job next year. First of all we would save some money. Flowers also has a better arm. I think he has done fairly well behind the plate and has shown great improvement with his bat. Having Castro back him up would be great for him De aza- I think has looked good. He would also give us a better centerfield play. He has great speed. He will also be cheaper than Juan. Stewart- boy what a great start yesterday. If he could show that the rest of these year, I would be comfortable with him as the 5th starter next year. Making Floyd or humber tradeable. Sale- i want this guy starting. We have Santiago who could take his bullpen spot. Huge arm with great stuff. He then makes either either Beurhle or Danks tradeable. With the guys tradeable we could really start to stock pile the farm system. I also think quinten will get traded this offseason as Rios is untradeable and viceado needs to be brought up. Rios has looked better this searies with the twins. Lets hope the hand placement thing works out and starts playing better. One thing I think we will look for is a third baseman this offseason. If we could use our trade assets to aquifer David Wright, this would be ideal. So lets say we give them CQ and Danks for Wright and three prospects. Morel can then be a utility guy for the infield teach him second and first this offseason. So this is what we could look like Starting pitchers; 1. Beurhle 2. Peavy 3. Floyd 4. Sale 5. Stewart Field; C- flowers 1st- konerko 2nd- Beckham 3rd- Wright SS- Ramirez LF- Rios CF- de aza RF- viceado DH- Dunn Bench; Lillibridge Morel visquel Castro Maybe pick up an aging power bat for the bench too. Like maybe bring a thome back(or something like this).

The pirates are about to get a bat. Derek Lee from Baltimore.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 01:23 PM) but he plays every day. that i guarantee you. i don't get why prado has to be a starter over carlos or chipper. his stats are rather pedestrian. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/6513/martin-prado
-
i don't think prado plays over chipper at 3rd.
-
you wnder if this doesn't force atlanta to move faster than what they wanted. that wild card lead could shrink real fast. and while some here are saying the braves don't need a corner outfielder, i can tell you carlos brings alot more to the table than prado does. infact prado would be more valuable as a 4th outfielder and back up 3B

the rangers have a couple of guys that kenny is looking for in young left handed hitter. engel beltre a young (21) left handed hitting center fielder. is not far from getting up to the league either. won't hit alot of homeruns but has + range and arm strength. also has tons of speed. basically a younger pierre but a much, much better outfielder. jake skole has a huge ceiling. can play all three positions in the outfield. has tons of speed too. has more pop than beltre. and is only 19. mike olt granted he hits right handed he is a power 3B. with a good glove. was a shortstop and has made the switch to 3B. here is their top ten with all three of these guys. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y20...ex.jsp?c_id=atl

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 30, 2011 -> 11:22 AM) you're suggesting they'd give us Beachy, Perez, Salcedo AND Schafer? you're nuts. like i said we don't have to trade and the braves could feel the pressure to get a big bat. i';m not saying it will happen just that if we could get at them this would be a good way to do it.
-
if it is boston then we of course send carlos and matt out again. we get josh reddick OF, will middlebrooks 3B very good bat and a very good glove has 14 homers in AA so he has pop too while batting .304, lars anderson 1B with gonzales now there they have no room for him. has fallen some in their farm too. still has a good bat though, stolmy pimantal SP has a + fastball and changeup and a good curve, drake britton LHP SP like i have mentioned we can take alot more because we don't neccesarily have to make a trade, so teams will have to wow us. with this trade however we do not touch their top 3prospects. middlebrooks is #4. lars is 6 and stolmy is 7. drake is 10. then we get an outfielder to help now. and for the record boston can use a LHP reliever. boston top ten prospects http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y20...ex.jsp?c_id=atl

you know the good thing right now is that we are winning and are in no rush to move carlos. so it will be up to the braves to get nervous and make a move to improve, thus giving up more than what they would originally want to. it's not like they have the wild card locked up. the cardinals are only 5 games back and they just shored up their pitching both starters and bullpen. the pirates are only 6 games back and you never know. and the diamond backs are only 4 games back. this might put pressure on atlanta to do something. so lets say they really feel they need carlos lets throw matt thornton in there too. in return we get. brandon beachy RHP, carlos perez LHP a 19 year kid that has 3 + pitches, eward salcedo SS/3B lets put in AA and get him playing 3B to be the future there. kid has outstanding bat speed that with maturity homeruns will come even more, jordan shaffer CF they are real happy with him. lets get him and put him at AAA for the rest of the year. i know he is DL right now but take him anyway. he adds to our farm team for this year and is a kid that could produce at the top of the lineup next year. i know this is alot but like i said, the braves could panick some and give it up. here are the braves top 10 prospects perez and salcedo are #5 and 6. then beachy and shaffer are kids that could help now or as soon as next year. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y20...ex.jsp?c_id=atl

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) Pretty stupid to move a gg caliber SS to 3B. geez i know, stupid yankees (arod) and orioles ( ripken) listen i was not saying do this. it was just an idea. instead of just locking into looking for a 3B what if we could get a legit SS. moving alexi to 3b would give us a good glove and arm there, as well as good bat.
-
i know we are really weak at 3B and all. what if we to trade a CQ for a good young SS and moved alexi to 3B? he has the arm strength to do it. i know alexi is good at SS i love him there. but if we could get a good SS why not look at it. much like the yankees did with alex rodriguez.

could you imagine an out field of: LF- dom brown CF- de aza RF- viceado sweet!!

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) I think KC is the seler and may have a bat or two to give up. Amazing how a teams fortunes can change. Pittsburgh a buyer? They have really turned their franchise around with that young talent Pittsburgh is actually a team I've thoughts we could trade with. Last night on baseball tonight they said Pittsburgh would be looking to use some of their young talent to get some help to make a second half push. so here is what I have come up with Pittsburgh gets; OF Carlos Quinton - a big bat they need need in the middle of their line up SP Edwin Jackson - a #2 or 3 for their rotation 3B Brent Morel - a young guy they can have. We get; 3B Pedro Alvarez - they have some competition already there. Their GM said that the spot wouldn't be just handed to him. So now might be the time to get him. He has a good glove, big bat, and huge arm. CF Gorkys Hernandez - a speedster with a great glove. Is batting. 300 in AAA. And. 340 the last month. Is more for next year. Has good base stealing potential Then have them name 3 untouchables from their Was and lower teams and then let us choose 2 prospects. This way viciedo gets called up. We get a legit 3B guy now, and we got CFer for next year
