  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 02:08 PM) AKA people who don't agree with you? Is the pot calling out the kettle?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 01:33 PM) Let's say that one player hits a lot of HR that just clear the wall. Another player hits fewer overall HR, but when he hits them he kills them. If the Mariners acquired the former player, that player would suddenly lose a lot of his HR and be much less effective. On the other hand, the 2nd guy would still hit almost all of his HR and might get a few more doubles even because of the extra OF space. Given the ballpark adjustments, a guy who "when he hits them, he kills them" would be a a player who might be particularly useful to the mariners. This right here. His average could see a spike with the extra space to hit into. And a lot of those could be doubles. It's unfortunate some here can't see past their own nose.
  3. QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2014 -> 09:45 AM) according to mbltrade rumors, tor may be looking to trade him and several other players... question is what will they asked for in return from us. give them Beckham who they have coveted for sometime. That would be a good start.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) You have the word from management, so what's the big picture? Are the Sox supposed to have a dominant rotation in 3-4 years and have all the position players set by then? I thought most of our minor league outfielders are busts. If that's true, the outfield still needs to be rebuilt with only Eaton and maybe Garcia suitable fixtures. I guess we have a minor league shortstop phenom, right? We have a third baseman in Davidson. Semien is future second baseman. Abreu at first. We have no catcher right now. We have a bullpen that can be built in free agency year to year i guess. But what is management's plan? Just to keep sucking and drafting good starting pitchers and eventually build a kick-ass starting rotation? It appears to me defense is not a priority of management. SS tim anderson? http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2013/#list=cws
  5. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 12:52 PM) he is I know!!
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 11:24 AM) 119 posts, and I'm guessing about 60 of these are directed at me because I once said the game of baseball can be complicated at times even in its simplicity. well don't you feel uber important.
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 10:32 AM) Due to numerous reasons, I think your ability to portray sarcasm on message boards is off. This is probably difficult too, just like the game of baseball itself.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 09:31 AM) Really? Comparatively speaking, he gets hit pretty hard against lefties compared to most relievers. Of course he can get lefties out, but if I face enough of them, I can get lefties out too. somebody sarcasm meter is off today. I didn't think everyone would get so twisted off a sarcastic joke
  9. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) It's safe to assume, from his argument and spelling, mataipaepae is 9-13 years old. ah yes grammar and age smack. who is 13?
  10. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 04:13 AM) I'm pretty sure he meant all of last year where he struggled getting lefties out as opposed to just the 1st lefty he has faced this year. Thanks captain obvous
  11. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 06:31 AM) I appreciate you judging Matt Lindstrom's ability to get out LH batters by one at bat to Oswaldo Arcia but that doesn't quite show the full picture. Lefties against Lindstrom in 2013: .317/.400/.378/.778 Lefties against Lindstrom in his career: .284/.357/.394/.751 Well you did say he CAN'T get leftys out. I was just pointing out that the last batter was lefty. So maybe he can get some out?
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 31, 2014 -> 01:28 PM) A closer who can't get out lefties? Wonderful. ummm...the last out of the game was against a lefty. and all he did was dribble it back to the pitcher.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) Seeing some good stuff from our guys this spring in my opinion. Don't matter that we have a losing record as our projected 25 man roster seems to be doing pretty good. I think we should at least be competitive Not to mention good things from our young kids too. micah johnson and marcus semien have looked really good this spring. and matt davidson looks like he should be the guy at 3B over connor gillaspie.
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:55 PM) Guess we got Gordon's built in excuse for this season. I'm ready to move on from beckham and the excuses.
  15. the only thing I can think of is that he has a left handed bat.
  16. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) Once the thread gets over 5 pages it becomes difficult to find the information you came for. Aggravating to read through all the nerd arguments just to find out who the sox are going to pick up. But that's what makes it a forum. exactly plus that thread has turned more into a fight of who knows more. not much info being put into it anymore.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 09:21 AM) I actually like JorDanks a lot as the 4th OF. I liked him for that role when the inexplicably signed DWise again too. Danks the younger is a plus OF defender that handles all three slots well, runs well enough to be useful as a PR, he's got a little pop with the bat, and he costs the league minimum. Can't write a much better 4th OF profile than that. I hope they can find a way to trade De Aza, and don't do something stupid like sign another Wise/Tekotte or the like to take that spot. I agree. I like danks as the 4th outfielder.
  18. there is talk of boston resigning drew and moving boegarts to 3B. it is said this would make will middlebrooks available for trade. what do you think about him in chicago? and do we have enough to get him? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/12/cafa...yo-morales.html If the Red Sox re-sign Stephen Drew, that would bump Xander Bogaerts to third base and make Will Middlebrooks a trade candidate. The Marlins, who are looking for a third baseman, would likely be interested.
  19. How in the hell does the angels get skaggs and santiago in this deal. and we only get eaton? there better be more to the deal or else we are getting hosed badly!
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:49 AM) Aren't most of the Sox better position prospects middle infielders? The biggest differences is these 3 bring big league experience and a LH bat.
  21. with seattle signing cano. there is a big log jam in their infield. Maybe we could sweep in and get one. all 3 of these guys bat left handed. dusitn ackley 2B. also has experience in CF nick frnaklin SS/2B. a good prospect for them. has good speed. brad miller SS. played last year and showed good promise. maybe we could move beckham to 3B? but we would be getting a LH bat.
  22. I think peralta might be going into st. louis to play 3B. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Nov 24, 2013 -> 05:46 PM) The St. Louis Cardinals GM, John Mozeliak hasn't waited long to try to make upgrades to try and steer the Cardinals to long term success. I realize the Card's situation is vastly different than the Sox. Do you think Hahn and the Sox had talks about Alexei ? Was the asking price too high ? Did Mozeliak think Peralta was a better option for 4/$52M than Alexei was for 2/$20 M and giving up a prospect ? The Cards also traded for Bourjos, one of my offseason targets . So both moves eliminated Alexei going to the Cards and the possibilty ,however remote, of Bourjos coming here since we have no idea if Hahn had Bourjos on his "big board". Does the signing of Peralta and Jason Vargas make guys like Santiago and Alexei more valuable ? Does anyone think Hahn is too busy asking for the moon and letting other teams worsen his position by acting now on their needs ? I know it's very early in the offseason but a lot is going on so I'd like to know what everyone is thinking.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 09:39 PM) If you are gonna start a thread, at least spell the guy's name right. very well thought out contribution. I see it only took you 4 days to figure it out though!
  24. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) How do you figure he's an upgrade at the top of the order? Span put up a .327 OBP and was 20 of 26 on the base paths, while De Aza was at .323 and 20 of 28. Span is an upgrade defensively but also has nowhere near the power. Those cancel out or give an advantage to De Aza. Really, I don't see an upgrade in there, and the Sox have less control of Span. It's just not a move that makes a lot of sense. agree to disagree! differing of opinions.
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2013 -> 02:17 PM) That's a lateral move. It doesn't add or take away anything except that you lose value overall because you'll give up more for Span than you'll get in return for Span. that's an opinion. I believe span to be an upgrade and someone that fits more of what we need at the top of the lineup to be more successful. also helps us more defensively. even you stated this. so how is that lateral?
