  1. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) yea not going to bother answering this. Figure out the demographics of SP in MLB yourself. Then look up the meaning of generic. StI'll don't understand why race is pertanant?
  2. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Apr 14, 2017 -> 11:42 AM) I saw Covey in spring. He is literally the generic right handed AAAA SP. He's Caucasian, about 6'2, maybe 200 lbs wet. He throws his heater about 89-92. He has a mediocre curve and a mediocre at best changeup. His control is mediocre to poor and his command is mediocre. He has no out pitch at the MLB level and will rely quite a bit on defense and ground balls if he's to have any success tonight. Good luck dude. It might be a very long night. Hopefully in a month he's replaced either by Rodon or Lopez. I believe the super 2 deadline is May 13th this year. What does white have anything to do with it?
  3. QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 13, 2017 -> 10:06 AM) it may not be Jacob May that's replaced, but man he is 100% overmatched at the MLB plate or what But he does play a major league center field. let the kid go and just play. Maybe he gets more comfortable at the plate as the season goes along or until Tilson gets back. Let the kid take his cuts, while playing a good centerfield.
  4. I like Maitan better because of his chance to play 3rd base.
  5. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 3, 2017 -> 10:40 PM) First of all, I've never said Rodon is "bad," but rather "mediocre." Given his talent, Id consider that a bit of a disappointment. Given his slider that he has, one would anticipate him being better than he has been so far. I suppose Id consider a "core player" to be essential to a team's fortunes. I don't see that at all in this player. So, convince me. (And again, I never called him "bad.") Come on you guys. ...convince him. It is vitally important that he is convinced. Rodon will forever be average if he isn't convinced.
  6. I was hoping there would be more to the Philly rumors. They have some nice outfield prospects at the top of their minor system.
  7. QUOTE (South Sider @ Dec 21, 2016 -> 09:38 AM) I wanted to start a discussion on Giolito to gather some opinions from our more savvy posters regarding his future in the MLB. Basically, when the trade happened people were saying Shelby Miller 2.0 and that the Sox fleeced the Nationals. I think a lot of people here had a more clear view of the trade, yes the Sox got a nice return but the Nationals got a good player and I highly doubt he will be as bad as Shelby Miller has been for Arizona. However, I was reading some tweets and articles talking about Giolito and that a lot of executives at the winter meetings had him lower on their prospect list then the national outlets. How low? One may never know, but it is interesting topic for discussion because some felt the Sox fleeced the Nationals, while others are down on Giolito. If Giolito isn't as good as we hope, then it severely hurts the value of this deal. Lopez projects as a bullpen piece, which is fine, and Dunning could be a starter but he's kind of far away yet. Giolito is the headliner and there's talk that the Nationals screwed up delivery, so he seems like an ideal candidate for the Sox to fix. I guess I just want to see what some of you guys out there feel like his ceiling really is. I think you are selling Lopez way short.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 02:40 PM) I hope you're right and RH doesn't say at the beginning of the season that "we just didn't get the price we wanted for anyone else." I worry that it was just about getting rid of the Laroche fan club that really stood up to management. Notice they were the first 2 to go.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 03:53 PM) I vote that Basabe will go down as the single most misspelled sox name on soxtalk since buehrle (no idea if i spelled that write, I always black out after the 'e') Or write and right?
  10. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:56 AM) Robles grades as a 60 hit tool, where Basabe currently grades as a 45 hit tool...which is a big difference A 60 hit grade is certainly plus, a 45 grade is fringe average Robles has a significantly higher ceiling due to the plus hiot tool and lower strikeout rates. His speed is also a 70 grade, which is elite Yeah I get that. I was being a smart ass. You guys are reading way too much into what I said. Similar does not mean equal too.
  11. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:53 AM) I mean, they both play center field and are young. I like Basabe, but to read about Robles is to talk about a pure baseball player who is dynamic on base paths, gets on base in anyway he can and is intelligent with two strikes. No doubt Robles is the better prospect. But getting Basabe as a third piece is very nice. He has a very similar game to Robles, just not as polished. But comes with better power right now. And plays centerfield. And is only 20.
  12. QUOTE (shakes @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) Based on what? Numbers and scouting disagree. Everything about Robles is ahead of Basabe. Really?
  13. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:39 AM) I also prefer the Boston package but the bolded segment is very debatable. Similar does not mean equal to. Obviously Robles is better. But they are similar still.
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 6, 2016 -> 10:29 AM) I don't know. I think it's overblown. Moncada was in AA and got a september callup for a handful of at bats. You like Moncada because he has developed his power, but almost everything else Robles already has at a premium defensive position. Both have good plate discipline and walk rates. Robles OTOH doesn't strike out. Robles was a 19 year old in A+, Moncada was a 21 year old in AA. I'm fine with either. Depends on what surrounds them. If we can continue to find dynamite athletic players like Anderson and Robles with the rest of the rebuild we could end up with a Royals like team. Yeah but Basabe comes in very similar to Robles. And you add Moncada who probably ends up at 3rd. And Kooech with a big arm.
  15. QUOTE (Jimmy3Putt @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 07:07 PM) How can he possibly have enough money for majority shares of a MLB team? Because he has been stealing from Americans the past 8 years.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 03:14 PM) It is also worth mentioning that Saladino has been fairly injury prone and has had back problems. I'd rather have my 3B set for 150 games, than to move Bregman from one to the other instead of moving him around with injuries. You didn't say anything about injuries. Now you do? And I bet you had saladino as one of you 2nd base options.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2016 -> 11:11 AM) Anderson so far has proven himself an excellent SS defensively, and he still has a lot of time to grow. My guess is that if Sale gets dealt, Frazier is either signing an extension or being traded himself. If he is traded, we have a couple of kids who can hold down 2B, and none who can hold down 3B. Saladino can actually play a very good 3rd base.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox1917 @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 03:57 PM) I want Moncada, Benintendi and Devers. If those three are offered, I'm taking the deal for Sale no questions asked. Give me kopech instead of devers.
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2016 -> 11:57 AM) Bowden Red Sox - Sale for Moncada, Kopech, Swihart and Rodriguez. Rangers - Sale for Mazara, Profar or Gallo, Tate and Ortiz Nationals - Sale for Joe Ross, Trea Turner, Fedde or Lopez, and Glover Cubs - Sale for Schwarber, Hendricks, Happ and Candelario Dodgers - Sale for Urias, De Leon and Puig ME Red Sox - Sale for Moncada, Benitedi, Swihart, Owens and Rodriguez. Rangers - Sale for Mazara, Profar, Gallo, Tate and Ortiz Nationals - Sale for Joe Ross, Trea Turner, Fedde, Lopez, and Glover Cubs - Sale for Schwarber, Baez, Hendricks, Happ and Candelario Dodgers - Sale for Urias, De Leon, Verdugo, Montas and Puig I like the rangers as a partner for Chris Sale if we trade him. I really like the Mazara kid. But instead of tate I would take Matualla
  20. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 07:43 PM) That's too much for Sale. I think you may get to pick one of Seager, Urias and Pederson. That's too little for Q. I try to move him to Boston for Moncada. Well if you can get Boston, Houston, and LA into a bidding war you just might get something similar.
  21. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 29, 2016 -> 09:25 PM) @CST_soxvan Purke optioned. Corresponding move tomorrow. If Davidson comes up and hits, I wonder if he could learn a corner outfield spot? he does have a big arm and is fairly athletic.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 04:11 PM) Boy this pitcher has nothing. Hope he's not a big time prospect. You don't like to let youngsters develop do you? They should all be hall of fame quality from the get go!
  23. That first pitch to Frazier was terrible!! Way to help them out s***ty ump!
