QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 23, 2017 -> 09:46 AM) Law's evaluations of bats have been as good as any publication writer over the internet age. He's outstanding. If I like a guy (on the position side) and then I hear Law likes him, I'll dive in and usually come out looking good. Law's evaluations of pitchers is almost like punching in numbers into a system. Under 6'1"? Under 185? Automatic reliever. 6'3"+ but very thin frame? Automatic reliever. Throws hard with bad mechanics? Automatic reliever. Law wants every pitcher to be 6'4" 215 lbs with perfect mechanics. I just don't think mechanics are as predictable as Law's writeups would give credence to. It's not even like he would argue that but he just bets on the workhorse bodies and does his presumptuous, writing-off of any guy who doesn't apply. Frankly, it's not the worst strategy given the tough task that Law has to do but at the same time, he knows some of these unconventional deliver/smaller body guys are going to work out and they're going to keep making him like bad (See Sale, See Carlos Martinez, Hopefully see Reynaldo Lopez). I actually tend to agree with Law's evaluations of starting pitchers/frames. 5'11"-6'1"" who have dominated in the last 40 years have been very few ( Pedro, Cueto, Oswalt, Tim Hudson, Guidry, Lincecum, Valenzuela, Gio Gonzalez). Yes some of these players have really panned out and were elite pitchers and Cy Young winners, but more often than not pitchers with smaller frames end up in bullpen (Wagner, Kimbrel, Robertson, Rodnery, Flash Gordon, etc) lose their plus stuff quicker, or arm/body breaks down. One of the concerns and worries I have with Carson Fulmer and Reynoldo Lopez are their size and being to withstand 162 games in the starting rotation. It's not the #1 concern with Fulmer and Lopez (Mechanics #1), but it's very high up their.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 20, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Why? Kyle Tucker's trajectory right now is the moon. Low K's, high BB, big frame that can easily fill out for big power, athletic corner OF...what dont you like? The risk? The fact that he's not high enough ranked on lists? And why would he be the only position player? You think the Astros are like "OK you only get ONE position player prospect that's IT" I dont think so. Tucker has never projected to have big time power. His swing mechanics and path will always be an issue for having any plus power. I have an issue with Tucker being the headliner and he's only played 16 games in A+. Yes he has a big ceiling, but we are talking about Christian Yelich with less speed at best. He's not a slam dunk guarantee prospect that will make it in the majors. Tucker still has questions to be answered at the higher levels. Hahn is being smart and patient eventually a team will have a need and will trade a more established position prospect whether its this off season, trade deadline, or next year. No rush other than hurts your chances of getting a Top 3 choice in this years draft.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 07:35 AM) You shouldn't worry about the injury. The injuries you are comparing them to are totally different. In the case of the pitchers they fractured the humerus which is very uncommon and really hard to do and thus are big worries because there needed to be a significant defect in the bone for it to occur. Albies just had a fracture of the olecranon on the ulna (the bump that sticks out when you bend your elbow). The happens when you forcefully extend your elbow and "chip off" a piece of it. I've seen it many times in laborers even with perfectly healthy bones. In baseball players it is rare, I've only seen a couple of them but it's not a sign of bone defects to worry abour for the future. Great information. Thanks PTATC

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 10:17 PM) This is crazy. One - that 20 has not been updated, they re-did team rankings but have not finished their player evaluations on mlb pipeline, you will se regrading. And what happened last year? Well as a 19 year old in AA he continued to rake and had a .145 iso. That isn't barry bonds, but it's an improvement over the 1 home run he hit over two years prior, and closer to a 35/40. It's also better than top prospects Nick Gordon and JP Crawford posted. Add to that he has a 70 speed tool that turns singles into double snad doubles into triples. He has a great 15% strikeout rate (as one of the youngest players in every league), he has a good walkout rate (again, as youngest player) and most of all has the scouting reports you love to see. High baseball IQ. Intense gamer. Does whatever team needs to win. The one thing not being mentioned about Albies is the major injury he had last season. He fractured his right elbow swinging a bat. Numerous medical have written this can be a precursor of a reoccurrence of the same injury happening again. There is no way I want Albies in the deal until I see him healthy and playing for at least a half of season. Albies is the same type of injury that normally happens to a pitcher, such as Dave Dravecky and Tom Browning which ended their careers. Very unusual to see this with hitters. I'm out on Albies for the time being.

QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Jan 11, 2017 -> 11:49 AM) Ronald Acuna, Sean Newcomb, Austin Riley and Cristian Pache. The pitcher can be messed around with too, Foltynewicz, Toussaint or Wentz could be subbed in for Newcomb and I wouldn't raise much of a fuss. I'd include Frazier to facilitate that deal, possibly trying to add a Victor Diaz-like flier on in the process. That's a lot for Atlanta to give up but they keep Allard, they keep Albies and they keep Maitan. Meanwhie the Sox invest in three guys that all could realistically be amongst the top 25 overall prospects next year. No sure bets, but more talent than anything the Pirates could offer. That's not good. Yuck

Update: Luis Robert has been cleared according to Rosenthal

Very interesting. 5 months is a long time to figure it out his residency/paperwork. I would think the teams already over the cap are salivating and will win the prize. -
Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
PolishPrince34 replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This is a head scratcher for me. Why are the Yankees interested in Robertson? They are in a semi rebuild and were applauded by the entire industry with the influx of young talent they have brought to their organization. I find it hard to believe Cashman wants to get rid of his young talented hitters: Torres, Rutherford, and Frazier. The only conclusion I can come up with is Steinbrenner pressuring Cashman to make a big acquisition for 2017 season. -

MY personal rankings of the top two hitting prospects with the teams most likely to trade for Quintana and be thrown in the deal: 1.New York: Torres/Rutherford 2. Houston: Bregman/Tucker. My gut tells me they go for that upper echelon pitcher and trade Bregman. 3. Dodgers: Bellinger/Verdugo 4. Colorado: Rogers/Tapia- No chance Dahl will be traded. Tapia is what pushes this ranking down. 5. New York: Torres/Frazier- 6. Pirates: Meadows/Bell -

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 22, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) I would send Q to the Cubs for that package. You basically have your entire roster settled by 2019 that way. C Collins 1B Abreu/Collins 2B Moncada SS Anderson 3B Candelario LF Happ CF ? RF Jiminez DH Collins/Abreu Candelario is a 30 defender at 3b. Has no chance ever playing adequately at 3B. Only position might be 1B, which his hitting profile doesn't fit at that position. Candelario is a DH type player. I have no interest in Candelario in any Cubs deal. -
I've always wondered how much cash the teams get when making a trade for cash considerations. Anyone have an idea? I would guess $10,000-$50,000. Probably little lower than a Rule 5 pickup.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:09 PM) I could really use a Quintana/Rockies rumor right about now. I would trade Quintana For Rogers, McMahon, Competetive balance pick#69, and 75% max of their international money. Rogers is the real deal. Imagine Rogers , Moncada, and Anderson up the middle. -
Outstanding signing. The perfect type of player if he bounces back can trade at the deadline .
-
Arroyo is a legit prospect. No way Giants give him up for 1 year of Frazier. He's their future 3B. Hit tool is plus.
-
Jo Adell OF Garrett Mitchell OF 5 Tool players looking forward to seeing their progress this spring. Would be great picks at #11.

Best scenario Jansen signs with the Marlins. Dodgers and Nationals go into a bidding war and have to raise the stakes. -

Eaton to Nats/Giolito, Lopez, Dunning to Sox
PolishPrince34 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) Lopez has an outstanding curve and glimpses of a plus-change. He'll definitely be a starter, imo. He's 6' 185...not talking about a tiny guy here. He's listed at 6ft if you look at him probably little shorter. Adam Eaton was listed 5ft 10 with Arizona. The curveball is no where near a plus pitch right now. For every 5 curveballs he might throw 1 plus. Lopez is very inconsistent with that pitch and lack of fastball command hurt his first go around in the majors. -

PolishPrince34 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Absolute love the trade. High ceiling pitchers that our system lacked. I think we will see the 2015 Giolito and Cooper will have him go back to his old mechanics and add a cutter to his arsenal. I love Dunning Throws three plus pitches. Needs at least 2 years of development, but has a chance to be a #3 SP. My thought on Lopez is a reliever, but a dam good one. I think Lopez tiny stature and lack of breaking ball will put him in the bullpen. With a great chance to being high leverage RP in the late innings. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2016 -> 07:22 AM) I could be convincable the other way, but my initial impression is that I'm unhappy with that package for Quintana without Bregman. Can you make a case the other way? Agree I'm not making a deal with the Astros unless Bregman is involved. -

Let's continue talks with Rizzo/Nationals regarding Quintana. Package of Robles, Giolito starting point again.
