  1. Everything Hunter Pence does is so fun
  2. Erik Johnson 2.0 IP, 6H, 6ER, 2BB, 0K
  3. Yikes, second straight rough start for Dykstra. Erik Johnson pitching like 2014 Erik Johnson. Really nice start from Leyer.
  4. Michael Taylor 3-4, double
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2014 -> 03:41 AM) I'm not buying it. WAR would tell you these 20 guys are all more "valuable" than Abreu. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/sort/WARBR/order/true Would you take ANY of them over Abreu OTHER than Mike Trout? Heyward being THAT high? C'mon. Tulo and Stanton, sure, I could buy that argument. But Yan Gomes? Would you take Seth Smith over Miguel Cabrera, for example? a) you're using the wrong WAR b) WAR is a cumulative stat and Abreu missed 2 weeks c) it's a good rule of thumb to be careful of seasons with huge defensive stats and look more towards career average d) like anything else, it's important to look at history as well as the current season. Seth Smith put up WAR of 1.2, 1.3, 1.2 and 1.1 his last 4 seasons. Cabrera 6.2, 6.7, 6.8 and 7.5. So I don't think WAR is telling us Smith is more valuable than Cabrera. Either way, the better WAR has Cabrera at 3.4 and Smith at 2.6 for this season. Which is reasonable, Smith is hitting .288/.383/.498 to Cabrera's .306/.365/.515 after all. e) devoid of context about age and contract, there's a decent number of players there you could make a strong argument that they are more valuable than Abreu right now. Trout, Tulo, McCutcheon, Cano, Puig and Stanton put up comparable offensive numbers at way more challenging defensive positions, and all have more speed on the bases. Lucroy is likely heavily undervalued because of his pitch framing.
  6. Another thing about Danish is he probably will be that rare guy who is genuinely capable of out-pitching his peripherals, as he goes a long way to shutting down the running game. From the stretch the ball gets out of his hands in 0.22 seconds (the video I saw this on had his teammates in high school clocked at 1.07 and 1.20). Runners have attempted 11 steals on Danish this year in 108 IP, and been successful just 6 of those times (and one of those was where the dude was successfully picked off and stole anyway). A lot of the box scores I looked at had multiple attempted steals on relievers so it's pretty clear teams are avoiding running on Danish.
  7. Heck of a night for starting pitching prospects: Beck 6.0 IP, 4H, 0R, 2BB, 3K Bassitt 6.0 IP, 3H, 0R, 2BB, 11K Danish 6.0 IP, 0H, 0R, 2BB, 5K Martinez 5.0 IP, 4H, 1ER, 3BB, 1K (meh, but ERA!) Not so much for the hitting, 25 hits between R, A, A+, AA and AAA, most to non-prospects. Davidson was 0-4 with 3K. Getting a little worried about Trey's lack of contact, 1-4 with 3K.
  8. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 02:31 PM) Michael Taylor is like 30 now. Rather see Sierra continue to get at bats. Danks is fine as late inning replacement for Tank. He's 28 1/2 and he's also hitting .326/.408/.528 since Hahn gave up a really interesting pitching prospect for him.
  9. Really thought Michael Taylor would be the next outfielder up, not sure the point of dealing away Jake Sanchez if not. I could deal with De Aza in CF if we could see what we had in Taylor.
  10. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Aug 9, 2014 -> 12:50 AM) Anyone have any idea how guys are hitting the ball against Spencer Adams? Are these runs merely a product of lolAZLfielding or are people making solid contact on him? Because he's giving up a little less than1 HR/9, striking out more than a batter per inning and walking nobody. Gave up 6 hits tonight: 1 homer, 1 fly ball, 1 line drive and 3 ground balls. Last start he gave up 8 hits: 4 line drives and 4 ground balls. So a lot of balls getting through the infield.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) Montas' first night back, he's going to be rusty, just like Rodon his first four appearances. Yeah, probably just over-worrying on my part that the old Frank will come back at some point.
  12. Spencer Adams is a joke. Great to see Montas back, could do without the 3BB in 2 innings though. Andy Wilkins isn't just hitting taters, has a great overall line now. Good to see Davidson 3-4 with a double. Carlos Sanchez 2-4 with a walk. Micah 2-4 with 2 doubles. Ravelo went 3-4 with a double. Jake Peter went 2-4 for Winston-Salem. Hawkins 1-4 with 3K, ugh. Engel 2-5. Trey 2-4, 2K.
  13. Avi came out of the game. Gonna go ahead and assume he took a fastball to the head and is dead. RIP.
  14. Jarrett Casey doing an admirable job at pursuing the worst zero point something ERA ever
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 06:23 AM) There are more than a couple of White Sox pitchers who, at best, belong in the minors. Just 7 or 8 more outs and you would stop picking on them
  16. The ol' run differential has taken a pounding lately
  17. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 10:26 PM) Yes, and he gave up 8 runs in his first trip to the plate. It was weird. Yeah just looking at the video now. Can't believe he shouted "f*ck the 2005 White Sox, they ain't s*it!", unacceptable.
  18. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 7, 2014 -> 10:23 PM) nope, sorry Jesus christ. In case anyone is wondering, tonight's 0-3 makes Leury the single worst hitter in the majors (min. 100 PA) in wRC+ at 13, 379th of 379.
  19. Just woke up. Looking at the box score. Can someone please tell me that Leury Garcia leading off is some sort of sick joke by mlb.com?
  20. Johnson through 2 clean with 4 K. Avi got another hit.
  21. Erik Johnson struck out the side in the first
  22. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 6, 2014 -> 09:06 PM) Probably because De Aza is an awful center fielder and if you have Garcia on the roster you might as well. De Aza's better in centre field than Leury is at hitting
  23. Gave up 5 in 2 innings of relief tonight
  24. Michael Taylor has been killing it Dykstra/Bucciferro got rocked, dammit
  25. Do people still think Leury Garcia is worthy of a roster spot for next year? .182/.216/.236. You just can't carry that from someone who's not a pitcher.
