So Abreu and Dunn both signing today, seems as if the FA market is starting to fall into place. Depending on the $$$, it's a good signing for the Nats, because they badly needed to add some power into that lineup. They've got way too many OF's still though. And I wonder if Milledge could be had now? Put up a post ASB line of .299/.355/.448. Austin Kearns will no longer be a regular also with this move I would have thought.

Official 2008-2009 NFL Offseason Thread

I'd like to have Pace over Flozell Adams at LT, but it'll never happen. I wonder if the Bears would look at him though, even though they have Chris Williams? -
Seattle will have the biggest bounceback of any team in 2009. Why? 1 - They play in a weak division. The Angels won't win over 100 games again this season, while the Rangers still have no good pitching and the A's are average. 2 - Erik Bedard is in a contract year. I expect him to pitch well and stay healthy (although that's a lot to ask). 3 - They're moving Morrow into the rotation. Pitching him in Safeco, he could put up an ERA under 4. 4 - Carlos Silva can't be as bad as he was in 2008. Or at least I would hope so. 5 - Branyan and Sheldon should be an upgrade on what Richie Sexson produced last season at 1st base. 6 - They'll sign an OF to replace Ibanez in LF. Griffey Jr. or Garret Anderson I would say. I'm putting them down for 75 wins in 2009, up from 61 in 2008.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 11:04 AM) Huh? Isnt Nash Canadian? Yeah but he lives in Manhattan during the off-season I believe.

Happy Birthday Jeff!!!!!!

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Stoudamire supposedly can't play with Shaq because Shaq is on the block in his way. Wouldn't Oden present the same problem? I hope the Knicks waste their money on Nash in 2 years. He'll be a fossil. Nash will probably take less than the MLE to play for D'Antoni and in his home town. As this season showed, in any other system, Nash is just an above average player at best. Amare can't play with Shaq because Shaq demands the ball in the low post and the offense now revolves around him. Oden wouldn't present that problem. Oden should just concentrate on his defense, rebounding and picking up the scraps. If McMillan could motivate Stoudemire proficiently, Portland would become an instant contender with this move.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 11, 2009 -> 10:40 AM) It's like watching a car wreck for me. I can't look away. Did I see Julian McMahon with a tit implanted in his body? Yikes.

Ummm wow is all I'll say to that. Steve Kerr has GOT to pull the trigger on that deal. I wonder if Portland have just soured on Aldridge or something? Maybe they think next to a great defensive center in Oden, Amare can be the offensive force and will spread the floor more for shooters like Roy and Fernandez. If Phoenix get Bayless, I also try to deal Nash for something before he bolts for the Knicks in 2010.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Feb 6, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Any franchise who plays in "Jobing.com Arena" deserves to fail. Ok, now on a more serious point.. via Wikipedia: If a team is loosing THAT much money, is it more reasonable to maybe either relocate or fold? That's a LOT of money in 8 years. The only way they can stay in Phoenix is if they can re-negotiate that lease. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 10, 2009 -> 11:08 AM) Pistons aren't trading Stuckey. Nor they should. But Kerr should at least be bargaining for him.

The Sugar Lumps song has been my favourite so far this season.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 05:51 PM) If that's the case, the Detroit offer is the best, but they'd be idiotic to think they could keep up with the big boys. My guess is Terry Porter gets fired after the season anyways, and they go for either JVG or Thibodeau. Rasheed Wallace would give them a huge expiring contract though, and Detroit will probably add Amir Johnson and a 1st from what I've heard. If I'm Kerr, I'm holding out for Wallace and Stuckey though.

I thought last night's episode was a little weak actually. I did like the Friendship Chart though. And Jim was definitely a dick.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) I really don't think I'd call them a stable government any more. That's a big part of the problem. The recent years of neglect have reduced the influence of the government that was organized after the fall of the Taliban to nearly zero, and has discredited it in the eyes of most of the population. Oh, that's certainly not good then. I mean it's still obviously better than the Iraqi situation, but Afghanistan is very close to a full blown civil war possibly, and after Iraq, America can't really afford to let that happen.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 03:12 PM) I've said that Bonds already was that good and the same remains true for A-Rod. He was the best position player in the league by then with or without steroids. That's what so disheartening about this, he didn't need them. Maybe he felt the pressure to live up to his huge contract, and wanted a bit of an "extra insurance", I don't know.

QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) On an extremely positive note... if this thread was titled OFFICAL 2005-2006 NHL THREAD wed be discussing who had more offensive talent between Calder Bell and Arnason. Thank god thats not the case anymore. Nothing like the A-B-C line for memories.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) Why would the Heat give up on Beasley so soon. for the amount of minutes he plays he puts up pretty solid numbers and is just a rookie. He could definitely be a better player than Amare in near future. Pat Riley's never been a fan of his. If he has the chance to get a dominant young big, I think he'll definitely do so. Cook + Marion + Beasley for Amare will prob work for both sides. The Bulls will definitely have to give up TT, and maybe Ben Gordon to get a deal done.

QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) The real question is, if we sign Orlando Hudson and lose our first pick. Would that in effect make it worthwhile to sign Juan Cruz as well? If the A's sign O-Cab anyways, we get 2 comp picks right? Would make it more worth our while then to sign O-Dog then.
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 8, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) I think Hudson could turn into one of those value deals that ends up being too good to pass up on. I'd love to get him at 4-5M per season and he might just be available for that. Yeah my thoughts exactly. I think the Sox would win the division if they signed O-Dog. I'm not sure if they can as currently constructed, but they have the potential to do so. Excellent defensive 2nd baseman, would be a good leadoff hitter, he fills a lot of needs for this team right now.
