QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 10:08 AM) DBAHO is Greg Ellis making any progress with his injury or is he still leaning towards retirement? Right now it's probably 50-50. He's been passed by Anthony Spencer on the depth chart at his spot. I wouldn't be at all suprised if he's going to retire right now. It just hasn't really improved enough since the surgery and rehab for him to get back out on the field. And it's a shame because he was really looking good at that OLB spot in the 3-4 before he did his achillies.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Sep 17, 2007 -> 05:47 AM) The Giants are ridiculously bad this year. Green Bay is punking them like its the preseason starters vs backups. Yeah Coughlin will be gone before the end of the season. They're a mess on the defensive side of the ball.

Seems like Rex is wearing out his welcome for Bears fans. He's certainly better than Kyle Orton, but he just hasn't come on as people would have expected. I really give the Cowboys a good chance at beating the Bears next week. Offensively they are clicking pretty good. Defensively the Bears could do well against a weakened Dallas secondary (unless Newman plays), but can Grossman take advantage? Good game for Benson, but is he going to be able to handle 25 carries for the season or is he going to wear down? That's why it's important for them to get Wolfe and Peterson involved. Oh and Julius Jones probably lost his starting spot to Marion Barber today. Very unlikely he'll be back with us next season. Just too soft and injury prone to be a starting RB in this league.

Yeah calling Danks nothing more than a 5th starter right now sounds a bit farfetched to me. Yes he has struggled over the past couple of months, but you have to remember coming into this season he wasn't even meant to have much of a shot at winning a job, and he did that in spring training. And as BearSox said, we've had numerous starters such as Garland and B-Mac who have struggled in their rookie seasons at times. There's quite a bit Danks needs to work on obviously, but he's young and has plenty of time on his side to learn. On Poreda, it's great to see him pitch so well at Great Falls, but as Cheat said, it's rookie ball so he should be dominating there. So I meant it's good he's pitching well, but he's not pitching better than what's expected of him at the moment. Next season if he can pitch like this in A ball, then I'll start to get more excited.

That projected 2nd line is probably the most exciting line I've seen as a Hawks fan for a long time. I still have hope for Ruutu and that he can improve offensively. Getting to play with 2 young skilled guys in Toews and Kane may help that process.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Sep 15, 2007 -> 11:31 AM) Iguchi .... good. Danny Richar ... so far, bad. OK now post how great Richar is with his .200 batting average and how dare I criticize somebody so young. Yes, I realize he's young. Yes I truly hope he becomes a good player. Iguchi is much better right now and I'd bet probably will be for four more seasons. Again, bless you Danny Richar and I hope you make it. You've had some nice hits, just not enough to get over .200. 4 more seasons? But aren't young players meant to improve and older players decrease in worth as they get older? That's like comparing Josh Fields and I don't know some 33 year old third baseman who has a better batting average? Will Fields still be a subpar player for another 4 seasons compared to this guy?

BAH. I just got Madden 08 for my laptop. I have Windows Vista installed, and everytime I attempt a kick the game basically freezes. Apparently after doing some research a lot of other people have been having the same problem.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Sep 14, 2007 -> 09:13 AM) Don't forget Saito for the Dodgers, but that Mori dude scammed the D-Rays That's still an above success rate of 50% though at least, so recent history shows that Japanese relievers can be very successful out here. And considering the state of our bullpen this season, we need to explore all avenues and leave no stone unturned when it comes to bringing in the best talent to make that pen a whole lot better than it was this season.
-
The relief pitcher that was mentioned in that article Iwase, if I was the Sox I would make every effort to sign him this off-season. If you look at the impact Japanese relievers have had in their 1st season such as Otsuka, Takatsu and Hideki Okajima (think that's his name from Boston), if Iwase is as good as those pitchers and because major league hitters won't have faced him before, he could really make a big impact for this pen. You sign him instead of a Scott Linebrink for probably a cheaper contract and you wouldn't have to give up draft picks either. I honestly think if you can bring in 2 relievers who can have seasons that Cotts and Politte had in 2005, that is what is going to improve the team the most next season in terms of wins and losses.

Terrible news for Portland and the NBA. They NEED for Oden to become a superstar, in times of bad publicity around the game etc. Let's hope Oden can recover from the surgery, but it's not a 100% surefire bet that he will do so. Lucky they acquired Frye from the Knicks as well, he's a decent fill in at the PF while Aldridge can move back to C.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 05:33 AM) is it normal for people to mumble to themselves while in the computer lab? WHY did I pick to sit right behind mighty mumbler?!?!?! Someone's not happy with their internet banking experience?

QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) They'll point to his 20 homers when the season is over and say how there's not many other SS in baseball that can produce his power numbers. Yep that would be what would worry me if there was ANY chance of Uribe being re-signed. No matter how good he is defensively, you cannot overlook the fact that his OBP and OPS has decreased over the 3 seasons he has been here. Maicer Izturis was an interesting name that was brought up. There are options out there like him if KW wants to enter the trade market. A young SS, a good bullpen arm, and a good prospect should be what KW is aiming for if he's dealing Jon Garland for instance.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 13, 2007 -> 11:09 AM) --- "No. 2, No. 3 -- it doesn't matter much," Federer said. "It's No. 1 that matters. That's how it goes." --- "He had his chances today, many of them," Federer said. "You could sing a song about it." --- "New guys challenging me -- this is my biggest motivation out there," Federer said. "Seeing them challenging me, and then beating them in the finals." Gracious? I don't see a whole lot wrong with that. He's just being honest. Djokovic had chances in the game and didn't take them. And Feds just wants new challenges, new opponents, because he's been beating the same people over and over again. In fact the only thing IMHO he has to do to be the best tennis player of all time is to beat Rafael Nadal at the French. If he can't do that, he's not the best even if he wins more grand slams than anyone else in history.

So I see Charlie Frye got traded already for the Browns. That Brady Quinn deal for the Cowboys is going to go down as one of the best trades ever when it's said and done, the Browns look like a bottom 5 team at this standpoint. That franchise has really been a mess from the get go. My guess is they'll go out for Parcells or Bill Cowher in the off-season.

Right now I'm leaning towards Jeremy Reed v2.0, which is really not a good outcome for Sweeney. This was really a make or break season for him in terms of his standing as a prospect. He finished last season well, and many had high hopes for him coming into this season, it just hasn't happened for him from a power standpoint. It's quite ironic that many people at the time thought we did really well getting Anderson and Sweeney as our top 2 draft picks in that 03 or 04 draft, and right now it doesn't look like either will become regular major league outfielders, at least for the White Sox.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Sep 12, 2007 -> 05:07 AM) Djokovic will be #1 by the end of the year. Federer's a dick. Nicest and most gracious chamipion ever I would have thought, especially when you look at some of the winners in other sports.

QUOTE(TheBlackSox8 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 12:47 PM) i was about to buy that game, then saw the review....it wasn't too kind, so i backed off. Heard Heavenly Sword was not up to expectations also. No horrible comments, i just heard that game could be better. Recent successes for the PS3 though are Warhawk and DiRT. DiRT looks good, I might check that game out as my first racing game, Nascar 08 was a piece of s***....I should have looked at it's rating before i bought it. Need For Speed doesn't come out for over a month. Then GT5 comes out next year. Dirt's meant to have SICK graphics, and an awesome presentation menu. Been getting good reviews as well, although apparently the physics of handling the car aren't 100% realistic.

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys.

Really you don't want to lose any type of game when you go out there. And I'm sure people could argue "but we're trying to instill a winning culture etc." here. But really, what is going to win another 10 or so games in September going to do for this ballclub? Are they going to take that momentum into next season? I doubt it, unless they can magically bottle it up and bring it out again in 2008. What we should be doing, is basically called "tanking". And really the more we lose, the more likely that KW is forced to make changes, and not only does that include the players obviously, but the coaching staff as well.

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 03:13 PM) Dont worry, he is a polished college pitcher on the fast track. Or so Duane Shaffer would have you think. Oops.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 11, 2007 -> 03:00 PM) Someone hits a foul ball into the upper deck it may be twenty minutes before anyone finds it. Or I just may get there and find it 1st.
