  1. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:18 PM) That's fantastic. f***ing Padres had to screw it up for all of us. The whole national league, besides St. Louis, is trash. The Tigers could win 90 games in the NL. Especially with the way he's pitched lately, they've gained about 4 or 5 games since the AS break. They could easily win that division, but so could the Dodgers, Padres and D-Backs, hence why they're probably all buyers at the deadline.
  2. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) I just hope we're done with the Burnett sweepstakes. He's just not worth the price. I can justify it much more for a guy like Overbay, Griffey, Schmidt, or Wagner. I'd take out Griffey on that list, unless the Reds pay most of his deferred contract which goes until 2024, you just don't want to be paying a guy until then, especially when there's always the threat of injury with Griffey.
  3. QUOTE(knightni @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:39 PM) The numbers are closer than they appear. Walks are close, as are hits & HRs. BA is in the same ballpark, Ks are decently close, and Viz has his ERA under 4 now. He's perfect trade bait while it stays under 4.00. Baez has to pitch a lot of 2 inning saves / appearances though, that increases his ERA. He's been better than the stats indicate.
  4. Just step away from the trigger and rubber stamps KW, just step away.
  5. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:04 AM) 1. So tracey is having a half decent year.. Lets annoint him starting 1b? The guy lost his 3b job.. They gave him the 1st base job and manages to lsoe that.. And still you want him as our 1b.. :rolly .. hell he probally lose it out to Timo by May. But your right I see your sign someone who hits .004 better avg is such the answer.. Funny you forgot to mention their OBP.. wonder why that is .. Mabye because Overbay actually is better in every single offense Catagory, that matters? 2. So know we get another SS, who can't hit.. Brillant what else you working on? So a Carreer .245 hitter should get our starting SS job.. And how much cash are we throwing into the fire to get him? 3. :headshake So its okay to make excuses for another fan favotire in why he can't play at this level anymore? Yet you still think its okay to carry his salray when it can be used to further help this team with a better player at a postion. (and for the record I am a huge Thomas backer.. But not at the cost of the Team) 4. OC has been injuried by minor injuries hurting his performance..Hard to complete your request. In this post where did I say we should resign Maggs? And again You only give half of every story.. But, in the overbay arguement.. it does? Funny how that works huh? As far as washburn, I read on other sites about this..Another thing to thjink about is that if Angels would have wanted him back you think they would have signed him already 1 - How about looking at how a guy has done in their major league career so far when you look at Tracy. He was a 3rd baseman that was moved to first because of Shea Hillenbrand. Then the D-Backs go out and sign Troy Glaus to a major deal while Tracy starts the year off at first, and does a perfectly fine job. Because Clark has hit so well however and Tracy is so versatile, they've decided to get Clark into the lineup to platoon with Tracy, and get Tracy to play at 3B or in the OF when they need him to. Tracy is hitting above .290, to say he would lose his job to Timo f***in Perez is ABSOLUTELY INSANE. Overbay is in his 3rd full major league season, Tracy his 2nd, and Chad is 3 years younger than Lyle. Something to consider when throwing out the stats. This also means Tracy will be cheaper and under our control for longer. You know how many teams would love to have Chad Tracy at 1B at the moment? 2 - Gonzalez is hitting something like .270 at the moment, maybe he's finally getting it. I didn't come up with the rumor, it was reported by the Sentinel in Florida. Furcal is going to get Rollins like money. Who else is out there that the Sox can offer the SS job too? 3 - There's no way we could of dumped Thomas during the last off-season. We were stuck with him like it or not. Now we have the option of getting rid of him this off-season. If we kept Maggs, we have what $20 million locked up b/w those 2 players this season, and how many games collectively have they both played this season? That is why we have Carl Everett. 4 - So it's all the injuries fault that Cabrera hasn't lived up to his potential? Don't you think he's NOT worth $32 million over 4 years? 99.99999% of Anaheim fans and the majority of us would think so (a sub .300 OBP just does not cut it). How ironic when we complain about Juan Uribe when we look at these splits; Cabrera - .242/.296/.346 Uribe - .237/.273/.384 And Cabrera makes almost $4 million more than Uribe this season. If you want I can bump one of your old posts which proves that you said we should have re-signed Maggs along with signing Lowe and OC. 4b - Maybe the Angels are seeing what's out there on the FA market before making a decision on Washburn. Doesn't it tell you something of how they rate him when they haven't re-signed him though? Also on Overbay vs Ortiz thing, let's have a look at the whole picture. Overbay vs. Tracy Overbay - Has a better OBP, has a little more power (since he's played in more games). Will be eligible for arbitration soon. Tracy - First full year in the majors, still has hit for good power, and was hitting over .300 a week or 2 ago. He's not automatically going to hit 50 HR's like Pujols did in his 1st season. Won't be eligible for arbitration for a few years. Ortiz - Stuck with a terrible contract, has more BB's than K's, and a terrible ERA. Is injury prone. Wright - Has a contract that can be voided. At his best, is much better than Ortiz. Pitched terribly in his brief outings with the Yankees. Looking all of those factors, can you tell me now, you would still pick Ortiz over Wright for the long - term of this ballclub, even though Ortiz would suck for 4 seasons, and Wright wouldn't be part of this ballclub after this season? Now Overbay vs. Tracy. Will you give up more for Overbay for Tracy and how big of a difference is there now, and in the future (when Tracy hits his prime and Overbay is getting out of his)?
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 10:06 PM) A couple of thoughts: - the Brewers can't wait to get G. Jenkins off of their team. He's one of the most overrated, high-priced players in baseball. - the Brewers just drafted Ryan Braun, a stud 3b from Miami. Why would they want Josh Fields? - to me, if a team makes a blockbuster trade with the Sox, they're going to get either Anderson, Sweeney, or Young in the trade. - one name who I don't see mentioned as a trading chip much, but I think will likely be gone if we make a big trade, is B. Jenks. You could argue that he's our best trading chip right now, even more than McCarthy. I don't think anyone's going to take on Jenkins contract, and he has hit really well as of late. I still think they'll keep him around at least until the end of next season. A team like Texas who's desperate for a RF however..... Braun's still a while away, but so is Fields. Fields could always move back to first, but with Fielder that probably won't be necessary. If Jenkins is moved, they'll have a greater need for Anderson but they also have Dave Krynzel in the minors with Nelson Cruz. Right now I'd give up Anderson before Sweeney or Young. Anderson is the safest of the 3, but I don't think he's going to be an all-star, the other 2 on the other hand have the potential too, which is what I'm looking for from our system. You're right on Jenks, but with the way he's pitched and the Sox's need for a good future young closer, I can't see them getting rid of him.
  7. QUOTE(forrestg @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:18 PM) how many times is McCarthy going to be traded. Its McCarthy for Overbay, McCarthy for Wagner a MCCarthy for Burnett. I think he can be traded once and his name comes up every time. We need a left handed power hitter not Overbay. We have Ross Gload if we give him a chance he'll come through. Our first prioity should be a reliable utility infielder or regular shortstop. Gload's never played a full major league season before, and you just know when they didn't call him up when he was still healthy, they just don't think of him as a future everyday player (even though I know a lot of people round here do think he is). Oh and Overbay has 16 HR's this season so far, he's on pace for a .300/30HR/100RBI season.
  8. Not so good on the Burnett front; Miami Herald - Sun - Times - http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-ssep27.html

  10. So Sam Dalembert got $60 mill over 6 years. Funny how he's going to end up getting more than Eddy Curry.
  11. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 05:35 PM) Here folks is the definition of a "chemistry" problem to be avoided at all costs. It's called the D'Angelo Jimenez effect.
  12. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:47 PM) Cool - I just talked to someone from Turkey! A couple weeks ago I talked to a lady in South Africa and have spoken with customers in various areas of Europe as well. Via email I have written back and forth with customers all over Asia, Europe, North America and South America. This is one cool aspect of my job. Leaving us in the lurch are we?
  13. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:02 PM) Koch did accept responsibility for his failure, that's true. I respected him for that. But, wow, did he deflate this team. And of course he's sitting on his ass earning a nice paycheck this year.
  14. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:54 PM) DBAHO, I think we could take 9 people from soxtalk and win the nl west. Screw a bullpen as well, no need. Ok so we're what the Arizona Diamondbacks all of a sudden?
  15. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:26 PM) If they're interested in Overbay, I think that they should just go the extra mile and go for Dunn. Or just pay less for Chad Tracy.
  16. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:52 PM) If Tomko came here, AJ would kill him. And vice versa.
  17. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Im not sure you made a good argument there of why they would be buyers. They are almost 10 games back and still falling, and basically have a glorified minor league team playing for the big club. The WC is not going to come from their division, and they will be looking towards next year. And Depodesta is supposed to be looking to unload some payroll in the terms of one of their big three starting pitchers. I would rather have Odalis instead of the other two, but I dont know if any of them are good fits here. BUMP. The Dodgers are 4 games back now. Hate to say I was right but ya know...............
  18. Adkins had an 4. something ERA as a RELIEVER last season, not a starter. He has proven in Charlotte he can't handle the role of starting. B-Mac has had 2 good outings in a row now for Charlotte, so he looks like he's turning it around. Oh and the Giants are only 6.5 games back of the Padres now who have lost 8 straight. I don't think they are going to deal Jason Schmidt.
  19. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) Hello Mr. Overbay my name is Greg Walker, I need to talk to you about your high BA and low power. I have worked with lots of hitters on the whitesox and have a fool proof method of giving you more power for just a slight drop in BA. 2006 Overbay hits 30 homers and has a 212 BA LOL Hello Mr. Podsednik my name is Greg Walker. In 2004 you sucked................... Oh the irony.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) I'd do it in a heartbeat, but I doubt Milwaukee would. I don't see *Tracey* as a major piece to any deal. He's putting up a 4.03 ERA at a huge park, is walking almost a guy every two innings, and doesn't have a very good K/9 rate. I doubt he'd be half the deal for such a good player in Overbay. Yeah can't see a Anderson and Tracey deal for Overbay myself. The Brewers may not even want Anderson, they already have 3 good OF's in Lee, Jenkins and Clark and Nelson Cruz in AAA. I'm thinking Gonzalez, Bajenaru and Fields for Overbay.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 04:07 PM) He was pretty damn good as a reliever if I remember right... him and Munoz both seemed to do good in the bullpen for the most part... Yeah they both had good ERA's as relievers. Too bad Jeff Bajenaru didn't though.
  22. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:02 PM) That's the Felix that I loved of last year -- 9 K's, 0 BB's. I still hold out hope that he can become a decent bullpen filler/fifth starter. But, before I my hope gets back to that, he's gotta get those ridiculous K/BB numbers back. Nice job by Anderson -- 1-for-3, but 3 BB's. Schnurstein with a nice game, too. Dbaho, Jason -- I think I got a foot on the bandwagon... I still think Felix could be a better set-up guy than a swing guy, but that's JMHO. He did have a very good September in that role for us last season. He just needs to make better use of his secondary pitches for starters.
  23. QUOTE(danman31 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 02:31 PM) Preach on brotha! It's all about Josh Fields, who also had a big day today. Oh please, Fields is SOOO last year and you know it.
  24. Chris Pronger's prob not gonna be retained since the Blues are gonna keep Weight and Tkachuk again. There's a #1 D-Man if the Hawks wanna sign one.
