Randy Johnson shoving a cameraman

QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 10:18 AM) Kevin Brown isn't quite the pitcher RJ is, but whatever. No........... he's younger. -
QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 01:36 AM) I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Houston gets involved after losing out on Beltran, unless Boras burned that bridge. Houston really needs a CF, they've got Berkamn in RF even though he'll miss the next few months. Randy Winn is one they're looking at as a possible acquisition, and we know they're interested in Soriano.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 01:37 AM) I can't believe KW is getting critcized for inking Uribe to that deal. That could prove to be a major bargain. I guess the minority against that deal probably have jumped all of the reports that Uribe has gained weight over the winter. For a comparison, it's likely Jack Wilson of the Pirates will sign a 3 year deal soon, probably with a little more money than Uribe's. I'd put my money on Uribe to outperform him over the length of that deal.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 01:17 AM) I don't know how well he plays SS, but it is Polanco's 3rd best position. Rollins has just come around, having been a little inconsistent in the past [hitting and defense wise. Getting rid of a young improving player like Rollins for a salary dump, when a bench player like Polanco could be moved [along with a little salary] makes more sense. My point is having the sox names in all these rumors for a middle IF makes the sox look a little foolish, like they're reaching for a guy. Unless they want their names out there for a reason. I think it's quite obvious that with each new trade rumor that involves the Sox and a middle infielder, that Wille Harris won't be on this ballclub this season, which I guess isn't going to suprise many people around here. But some team could definitely use a cheap second baseman like him who can leadoff.

I'd be lying if I didn't say there weren't times in life where I was feeling really down on myself and wasn't exactly enjoying life (being overseas in a strange country for a month without your family will probably do that for you), but you just gotta take the good with the bad I guess, and take each day as it comes. Hell, no offense for anyone else here on these boards, but there's no doubt it's the hardest for me to be a Sox fan, without hardly getting to see them or watch them play, without the internet and SoxTalk, I'd have no contact with them whatsoever. But just try to enjoy life and the times and oppurtunities you have, that's the best advice I could give on the subject.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 11, 2005 -> 01:06 AM) With the Sox being mentioned w/ Durham and now Rollins, the sox seem to be sending out feelers for the trade market for a 2b or SS. Any team with a match like these players [good speed, good bats, top of the order types] could then propose a trade to the sox. Rollins isn't likely to be moved. They don't have a SS to replace him, and Rollins isn't that expensive. Yet the sox inquiring about him makes some headlines, gets the sox name mentioned as possible trade partners. Another reason is w/ these names floating about, it makes the sox look like they're all over the map, looking for anyone and everyone for the middle IF. KW's moves show he's smarter than that, that he does have a plan. Polanco would be the everyday SS, while you'd have Chase Utley at 2B and David Bell at third base, but Placido is more comfortable at second by all reports. I've heard Rollins is fairly inconsistent as well, don't know if stats would prove this, but it probably wouldn't endear him to Ozzie ALA 1 Willie Harris.

If the Astros trade for Randy Winn, it looks certain that Reed will be the center fielder for the M's in 2005.

Is it just me or does anyone think the Jets could pull a Carolina if they were in the NFC. I give them a good chance to beat the Steelers this week as well. -
The Orioles won't be making a move with him at the moment. If they acquire Vazquez for that big group of players including Matos and Gibbons I believe, than it's more likely they'd go after Maggs to fill an outfield gap. They'd prefer Delgado, but it's most likely he's headed to the Marlins or Rangers at this point. I still consider the Rangers to be in it, if they miss out on Delgado, Tom Hicks is gonna want some sort of run producer on that team if they trade Soriano, even if he's cutting payroll. Of course the Tiggies might just overpay really badly for him considering they've missed out on everyone not named Troy Percival this off-season. The Cubs? Well they've got other things still to focus on, and if they aren't careful could see some team sneak in and take Maggs away from their grasp. But they should still be considered the favorites at this point.

Ed Wade is in a difficult situation right here. He'd rather move Polanco, but would probably have to pay possibly some of his contract to get a deal done, and the return probably wouldn't be as good as if he traded Rollins. If he could move David Bell instead, then Polanco could even slide over to third base, but that ain't gonna happen. Rollins is now expendable though because of the acquisition of Kenny Lofton as a leadoff hitter, negating Rollins main value in the lineup.

I'm guessing you wouldn't enjoy living down here then. :banghead

Doug Melvin isn't stupid, in fact he should be writing a book on how to run a small market franchise based on his moves so far this off-season.

Personally I'd go for Eddy Curry, some dollar signs and a cash register, but hey that's just me.

The other prospects the Dodgers get along with Navarro.

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 05:17 AM) No we had an older version of that in Jose, I am going with jeckle on this.. Uribe, had one good year, and they sign him long term .. but only after KW failed to ink Omar Vizquel. As if KW needed to make Uribe happy. Rowand is one of the few that have come up through our system that is going to be a stud, you have to pay the man. to answer the question at hand.. Rowand hands down, home grown stud... Jose Valentin an older version of Uribe. Ok lets see, the guy hit .216 and had an OBP of .287. Plus he was more expensive in 2004, and will be again in 2005.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 10:15 AM) Ashlee Simpson's La La La song at the bowl game. Just plain terrible. You wanna make me scream or something like that.

Anyone who has Fox Sports World I think, there's an international cricket game in Melbourne to help raise money for the tsunami victims to start just about now....

Houston is most likely going to deal for Soriano now anyways, and that could impact a Castillo trade, as the Rangers would be all over Delgado as a free agent then.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 12:40 AM) FWIW, supposedly [according to ESPN insider] the marlins are Delgado's 1st choice. If the M's got Delgado, the sox would stand a much greater chance of landing Castillo. Sign with them delgado!! That's what I'm hoping, Delgado looks like he wants to play for a winner. Florida would be a good fit for him.

QUOTE(beck72 @ Jan 10, 2005 -> 12:17 AM) I agree. I'm just saying the sox look to have some pieces that could fit. Marte would be more in line w/ Castillo, as far as worth and value go. But if they missed out on Delgado, Gload would be a decent option for 1b than Ben Grieve, Clark or Fullmer. Yet if they got Delgado, they'd have to go cheap at other spots [2b, bullpen, OF] Interesting to say the least. I thought the Sox would find a way to trade w/ Florida this offseason. If Castillo is available, the Sox should top any offer, along the lines of the Freddy deal. I think it's more likely the Marlins would rather keep Castillo and sign someone like Brad Fullmer or Travis Lee instead of trading Castillo if they missed out on Delgado to a team like the Mets or Rangers (If Delgado wants to boost his value, he should sign a 1 year deal with the Rangers, his stats there are insane). There's no doubt Ozzie would be telling KW to get on the phones to Larry Beinfest ASAP. The Marlins need help in the pen, and might even have interest at taking someone like Felix Diaz or Jason Grilli as it's likely their 5 starters won't make it through a full season.

2 teams interested in Shoe. I hope the Indians don't get him;

Astros possibly interested in Soriano;
