    New High Tech Meals

US FOOD technologists have invented dried rations that a soldier can rehydrate by using dirty water or even his own urine, the British weekly New Scientist reports. The ration is surrounded by a plastic membrane made of a nanofibre that, according to its inventors, can filter out 99.9 percent of microbes and the most harmful toxic compounds, allowing only clean water to get to the preserved food. So far, only one prototype - chicken and rice - has been tested, but the menu will be expanded to incorporate other down-home favourites if the concept proves popular. The inventors are the Combat Feeding Directorate, part of the US Army Soldier Systems Center in Natick, Massachusetts. Two years ago, their men and women came up with an "indestructible sandwich" that could stay fresh for three years. The goal behind the latest gastronomic breakthrough is to reduce the amount of water that soldiers have to carry around with them, both within the food and for cooking it. One day's food supply of three meals weights 3.5kg per person, but that can be reduced to a mere 400g with the dehydrated pouches. New Scientist, which reports on the invention in next Saturday's issue, quotes experts as saying that rehydrating the food with urine should only be a last resort because the membrane is too coarse to filter out the chemical urea. In the short term, the body will not find this toxic, but it could inflict kidney damage in the long term.
  4. Exactly, this has me worried now. Please, oh please, don't make the Twinkies the underdog Harold, Praise Them!
  5. Time for some merging Mods.
  6. Most new GM's hire their own guy anyways, although we all knew that Cito Gaston was Kenny's preferred choice before he interviewed Ozzie.

    Rescue Me

    Is the show about cats?
  8. At least Kenny's shaking things up, we can't say that he hasn't tried. But really we SHOULD win this division, everything is in place for us, it will be a major dissappointment if we don't, and someone will hav the take the blame.

Well no luck for me I'm afraid, the 2 gamestores I went to didn't have it. I'm now trying for my Dad in Malaysia to see if they hav a copy on PS2 over there, othawise I might hav it order it on-line from America.
  11. I mentioned Hillenbrand in another thread, Arizona's been trying to get Chad Tracy into the lineup more although with Gonzo's season ending injury, he'll probably get a regular spot in the outfield now.
  12. Great interview there Jason and Mike, really good to hear from B-Mac.
  13. Anderson still slugging well at B-Ham, good chance he could be at Charlotte next season, if he keeps hitting well for the rest of the year.

I'll try to join if I can get the game and a Network Adaptor, I'll find out later today.
  15. I heard bout that on ESPN, no doubt it affected his performance that night.

No. Donny Lucy was drafted in the 2nd round this year, and is currently playing Great Falls. Ryan Hankins is also hitting quite well for Charlotte at the catcher position.
  17. That's 10 a.m our time, usually I'm out at Uni at that time of the morning though. On the West Coast, games usually don't start til bout 1 p.m.

No chance at Steve Finley now though with the acquisition of Everett and the way A-Row has been hitting. If Shea Hillenbrand became available, I would like to have a look at him if Crede doesn't turn it around hitting wise.

    ESPN NFL 2K5

Short term pain, for long - term gain. This is what they have to do to try and win in this EA Monopoly Style Market.
  20. Odalis Perez and Carl Pavano are probably the top 2 guys that'll be available this off season in free agency. Derek Lowe I think will be signed by Philly, as they are looking for some sinker ballers at thier ball park, which is the new Coors Field of the East. Pedro Martinez will probably go to the Yankees or remain with the Red Sox. Matt Morris is another option, but he's had a terrible year and has had shoulder problems which has caused him to lose some velocity on his fastball.
  21. Never listened to them before.

Dave Littlefield WILL NOT pick up half of Kendall's contract, so you can keep dreaming about us acquiring him, I think if he's dealt he only wants to go to an NL team as well. Brian Scheneider would have been a great option, but he probably would hav been included in the Carl Everett deal if we were to get him. Other names like Greg Zaun, A.J Piersynki and Benito Santiago hav been mooted around here as possible targets.

    ESPN NFL 2K5

Found this article bout other ESPN Games from Gamespot, Once again, it appears that an online retailer may have preempted a major announcement from a publisher. Earlier today, EBgames.com began listing both the Xbox and PlayStation 2 versions of ESPN NHL 2K5 and ESPN NBA 2K5 for $19.99. The new price point is the same as for ESPN NFL 2K5, whose discounting sent waves through the industry when it was announced last month. However, the new price point is not official--yet. When contacted by GameSpot, representatives of Visual Concepts, the Sega-owned developer of all ESPN titles, would neither confirm nor deny the price point but promised that there "will be an announcement soon." Last month, nearly identical wording was used to respond to inquiries about EB Games' preemptive listing of ESPN NFL 2K5 for $19.99. However, NFL 2K5's discounting was corroborated by product pages from the online store of EB's rival, Gamestop. As of this afternoon, Gamestop was still listing NBA 2K5 and NHL 2K5 for the standard $49.99. If true, the repricing of NBA 2K5 and NHL 2K5 would mark another bold joint move by ESPN copublishers Sega and Take-Two Interactive, which executives outlined in a recent GameSpot Q&A. However, since the two titles are not nearly as complete as NFL 2K5 was when its cost fell, some industry-watchers are concerned that the price reduction could mean fewer resources will be devoted to their development.
  24. They're meant to be opening the 1st Krispy Kreme Shop down here in November. And it's turning more into Starbucks every day.
