QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) I'm not sure how much building material there was, most of his stops were due to Colorado screw ups. He had a good save, maybe two, but that's it. Still nice to get 2 points though. I'll take anything positive with Huet ATM, even if it is very slight. At least Niemi has shown that he can produce if needed.

White Sox talk new deal with Scott Podsednik's agent
DBAHO replied to kitekrazy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Really Pods should take a discount if he wants to stay at the Sox. It's been really the only team where he's had major success at, and they gave him another chance to reviatlize his career and it worked for both parties, so they should come to a mutual understanding. -
Hunter Pence from the Stros.

Homer was probably disappointed that Maude Flanders didn't make the cover.

Hopefully that shootout can be something that Huet can build on going forward.

Golf and Rugby to be an olympic event

QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Oct 11, 2009 -> 12:13 AM) Them's fightin' words in Japan and Korea. Oh ya forget about those 2. But I still think Rugby has more competition. -

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 07:16 AM) Which makes rugbys inclusion such a joke. They claim there is no competition in baseball/softball, which was one of the main reasons to get them out. Well, what is there in rugby? Australia, New Zealand, England, Ireland, France, South Africa...who else might actually medal? There's less competition in rugby than there is in baseball/softball I actually disagree with that. They'll be playing Rugby Sevens, not the 15 man Rugby at the Olympics IIRC. So yeah you've got those nations above, but then all of the Island Nations such as Fiji, Western Samoa, Tonga etc. are really, really good at Rugby Sevens, so that's at least 10 countries that would be in contention. I don't think you could say that for Baseball / Softball. You've got Cuba, U.S, Canada, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela etc. and that'd be about it. -
You know if there's room I wouldn't mind getting back into Fantasy Sports again.

Ok here's a question for you all. Would you move Dan Hudson and another prospect for Mat Gamel, to have Gamel play either LF/RF going forward?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 7, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) Kotsay This and also Tyler Flowers could definitely be an option, considering he'll probably start 2010 in AAA. But yes I'm for bringing Johnson in. By DH'ing him, you'd reduce the chances of him getting injured anyways. But that OBP and plate discipline would be awfully nice to add to our lineup.

Hasn't really been a good year for Dave has it.

Well this was certainly a surprise. I'd say it's Rio's to lose now. I'd be surprised if they gave it to Madrid consider 2012 is in London, and Barcelona had the 1992 Olympics. Wouldn't say there's a major European consensus of the past Summer Olympics though. Sydney had it in 2000, Beijing 2008, Atlanta 1996, so it has been around the bush a bit.

Good performance from us, especially the D tonight. Still concerning that DeMarcus Ware doesn't have a sack after 3 games though. Me thinks the contract negotiations are affecting him in some way.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) Rios has a ton of potential, but is he no different than Swisher as far as supposed clubhouse and/or team issues? It's safe to say you don't know what Swisher did outside the clubhouse in 2008. It's been mentioned on here a few times, and well, it isn't really good I'll put it that way.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:55 AM) So allegedly, why doesn't Walker tinker with guys like Thome, PK, Dye, or Pierzynski when they are struggling? And there have been definitely times where they've struggled for months. Probably because for the most part those guys have been succesful offensive players, so they'll stick with what has made them be successful in the batters box. And a guy like PK basically struggles when he's injured, last season with the wrist problems he had early on IIRC being a perfect example.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:47 AM) Here’s my 2nd point. You never trade a player when his value is at its absolute minimum. But who's to say Swisher's value would be higher than it was in the off-season if he stuck with us? As it's been pointed, even though he was unlucky with his BABIP, he wasn't listening to his coaches, and it got to the point where Ozzie was playing DeWayne Wise over him. Who's to say Swisher would have been a starter for us in 2009? And you don't exactly pay that type of money to a bench player going forward, especially when the Sox were trying to dump payroll.
-
If we were looking at RF's to replace Dye, Hunter Pence would be one I'd at least inquire about. He wouldn't be cheap, but the Stros don't exactly have a lot of talent in their farm system either.

Nick Johnson Is The Only Free-Agent Hitter That I'd Sign
DBAHO replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) Rather us trade some garbage to the Nationals for Adam Dunn for our DH. If you're Mike Rizzo, why would you accept garbage for argubly your best offensive player? I see him demanding at least 1 premium prospect if he's going to give up Adam Dunn. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 01:32 AM) Even if Nunez turns out to be a good one, you still don't trade a young, OPB-Oriented, switch-hitting slugger, who can play 1b and every place in the OF for a set-up man. Which teams were out there though in the off-season that would have given up more talent for Swisher, who was coming off a really bad season and had a lot of bad vibes about his antics out of the clubhouse? It's one thing to say that we should have gotten more talent for him in return, but it's another for that to actually happen, especially considering the bad economic state and the fact that players such as Bobby Abreu, Adam Dunn and Milton Bradley were out there in FA.

DBAHO replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Depending on how much $$$ he wants, I'd definitely be for it. He'd be an ideal #3 hitter for us next season. -
The Swisher and Vazquez trades were salary dumps more than anything, so that KW could re-load during this season and bring in what he thought was better talent in Rios and Peavy. I don't have to remind people how much heat Vazquez was getting this time last year due to his lack of "balls" in high pressure situations. He was always a good pitcher in the "right" situation though, and he seems to have found it in Atlanta. As for Swisher, well his antics both in the clubhouse and out of it weren't going to be tolerated for another season. Obviously he's rebounded for the Yanks and good for them. But dumping him allowed us the payroll flexibility to put in that waiver claim for Alex Rios. Was that the right move? Well that question can't be answered until mid 2010 IMO.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 24, 2009 -> 11:07 PM) This might be the most sane post of this thread. Am I the only one who thinks the Getz/Nix platoon has been one of Ozzie's best moves of the year? I'd like to see it going forward as well. No I think that'd be a good option as well, especially considering how much both players will make next season. I'd like to possibly go after Nick Johnson in the off-season as well. I'd love to add his OBP to the lineup, and his power numbers would improve if anything hitting at the Cell.

QUOTE (SnB @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) congrats jas! now get ready for some horribly annoying wedding planning. I am t minus 3 weeks away from the big day. Have you had the bucks / stag (I can't remember what you call it over there) night yet there Steve?

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 01:16 AM) No, but adding a guy whose main skill is getting on-base will. If you're looking to add an OBP guy in the DH spot, there are still a lot of different options such as; 1 - Jim Thome. Yeah most people probably wouldn't want him back, and he's inconsistent as hell. But so is Bradley, and Thome put up an .864 OPS for the Sox this season with a .372 OBP. 2 - Russell Branyan. 1 year wonder? Possibly, but if the price was right he'd be worth considering. I'd imagine he'll stick with the Mariners though. 3 - Nick Johnson. This guy has a .421 OBP this season. 92 BB's and 81 K's. He'd look very nice in the DH spot for us. 4 - Adam LaRoche. Doesn't get on base as well as the 3 above, but he's another option to consider.
