NLDS: Cubs vs. Nationals
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Oct 8, 2017 -> 08:39 AM) I didn't get the memo this year. Are Sox fans still obligated to root for the Cubs? I was happy for them last year but now I just kind of want them to go away.

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 30, 2017 -> 01:09 AM) Cubs a lock to reach WS; ditto Cleveland. It's destined to be a rematch and Cleveland fans shouldn't assume revenge is complete. Cubs will be loose if they get that far and win it again. Then we'll be looking at a possible threepeat? My gawd. Bartman would finally come out of hibernation if Cubs win their second in a row. Who the hell would do anything but hug him then? I think LA has too much for the Cubs

2017-2018 NHL discussion thread
He never full time called for the Blackhawks, but I was very sad to see Dave Strader passed away. Called many a great game, including this one https://twitter.com/twitter/statuses/914537530288230404

NCAA basketball thread 2017-18
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 27, 2017 -> 03:30 PM) All it takes is the assistant looking to make a deal to screw over Illinois. Meh, it's just a matter of how long Illinois is at rock bottom. If it gets ugly for Underwood, Josh Whitman should lawyer up and fire him.

New Banner
I pretend not to believe in the curse of the banner. But it's real.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
QUOTE (turnin' two @ Sep 23, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) One thing I would like to see more of from Moncada (as well as a whole bunch of the other guys), is stolen bases. This team has speed to burn and hasn't used it to any real extent. Anderson, Moncada, Engel and Hanson should be running just about every time they are on base. Anderson and Engel have great rations but they don't run enough. Having speed can create a lot of havoc and put pressure on the defense and pitcher, but only if the team uses that speed. Stolen bases are overrated as a stat. They're nice, but an out is a lot of risk.

To sum up, yes, you are allowed to be nervous about Moncada but you don't have to and shouldn't be.

Every MLB team will get an extra $50 million from Disney purchase
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) MLB's streaming services were the gold standard of streaming before everyone else caught on. They still kind of are. HBO Now is an MLB Advanced Media product

2017-18 official NBA discussion thread
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 04:50 PM) Well aware of that. As I said Russ is loyal to OKC, I don't think it's too likely he leaves, especially since LA is set at PG. I think it's more likely Cleveland S&T LBJ to OKC for Adams and 1st (PG and Russ re-signing of course) than him going to LA. No way. He's going West. Westbrook is too good to pass up if you're LA

8/18 at Rangers
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) I've enjoyed watching this lineup. There aren't a lot of pretty stats but they seem to produce compared to having it littered with veterans. I just hate the way they lose with a pen you want investigated for throwing games. Oh please. They are neither the first nor the last to do this. These games are now individual performance centric.

A Star is Born
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) I contend though that if we are 10 games out of first at the end of next April, individual performance means very little. How can a player give optimal performance when the team is that bad? It has to affect the little things in your approach. Why move a runner when it doesn't matter? Just swing from the heels and try to homer. The young studs will put in the time and get used to pitching and hopefully do well enough. My point is, all that training will be put to the test when we are projected to be a good team. On April 1 of that season, whenever it is, is when the can't miss guys like Moncada, Robert, Eloy, etc., begin their trial periods. When it matters. I'm not saying Moncada can hit .111 and management will be satisfied but none of it really matters til the team is projected to be a contender. Then the apprenticeship is ova. Baseball is an individual sport disguised as a team sport. A team win is a combination of individual victories. A player's ability is not directly tied to the performance of his team mates. And before you bring up RBI, note there is nothing a player can do to get the players ahead of him on base.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:14 PM) Only those who cling to the past. With names like Moncada, Jimenez, Lopez, Hansen, Giolito, Burger, Sheets, Dunning etc in the system, I could care less what happens to a majority of who the Sox have traded. Right? All the former Sox players I care about are retired.

2017 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Home Run Derby ruins swings or simple regression? Agreed. Mostly the latter. The fact is, people do the derby because of their torrid first half pace. A lot of them regress, but that's expected in 162 game season.

Aaron Judge has been horrible since the home run derby. Only batting .184 with a strikeout in 30+ consecutive games.

Royals at Sox Game 2
QUOTE (Insp @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) Delmonico struck out on a pitch that was clearly outside the strike zone....... I can imagine when you're up there for 10+ pitches, you're judgement of the plate falters a bit. With 2 strikes, he's just up there trying to protect anything that looks remotely close.

Royals at Sox Game 2
Delmonico dialed in.
