  1. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) Sale puts up ridiculous numbers even when he sucks. He's going to match the 20k record one of these days I swear. I'll give him credit for battling through the game after the 2nd inning. Especially holding down the Twins after the big inning from the offense. Anyone notice how Sale pitched better when he dropped his velocity to 92-94? It was as if someone told him to scale back and improve his command
  2. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) if they really made some hard, harsh choices in spring training and i am not talking about trading Sale nor Jose, i feel as they can compete next yr. Yeah, if they trade one of their few commodities in Quintana and receive one hell of a return, if every offensive player improves, if every starter improves, and every FA pickup/trade works out, we can compete. Also if KC and Minnesota regress. What other harsh choices could there be to help us?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) Some good at bats this inning! Quick yank too. Now Sale needs to man up and pitch like our ace
  4. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 13m13 minutes ago Minneapolis, MN Hahn: "The approach we’ve had for the last several weeks or months in the front office has been to be extremely open minded ... Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 13m13 minutes ago Minneapolis, MN Hahn: "There’s no sacred cows. Everything is on the table and we are looking at everything." Build around Chris Sale and Jose Abreu. No, look at this team -- if someone blows us away with an offer, you trade anyone.
  5. Sale better figure out the Twins because he's our ace and we can't afford for him to pitch so bad against a divisional opponent. It annoys me seeing him fall apart like this, he should be embarrassed.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) Twins just make Sale their b****. Need to get this fixed for next year. It's between his ears. He came into this game with Twins being the boogey men against him and wet the bed
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2015 -> 07:40 PM) Arrieta shut them out. Minnesota is pulling outside pitches too. It's like they're able to read what he's throwing. No one is swinging through his pitches. It's unbelievable. He cost himself a Cy Young tonight. I hope he doesn't become one of "best players not to win cy young" pitchers
  8. Sale doesn't really pitch well in big games, it seems. He's letting Minnesota get to him with being crossed up, throwing some fastballs WAY off location I'd be interested to know how he'd fare in a pennant race
  9. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 11:15 PM) First, you lose Kenny Williams. Second, you figure out how to go back and move Shark. Third, you play out the rest of the season and then try to move Sale for top position prospects. Do the same with Abreu, because Hahn has the uncanny ability to make team friendly contract. You take or leave Alexei. Play through one or two thin seasons to gain draft picks. That's how you do it. The problem is our scouting can't draft positional talent. Honestly, if this was 2016 and we knew what we had in Fulmer and Montas I'd consider trading Sale. Oh, i know -- He's the face of the franchise, best White Sox pitcher in 70 years, signed to a team friendly contract; but all that is irrelevant if we're stuck with this offense. Our pitching is our greatest asset, and we could have an abundance of it come 2017 if our top prospects continue progressing. I'd hate doing it, because he's everything you'd ever want from a #1 starter. But the organization has put us in this position, and unless they can unload Quintana this offseason (which I feel has to be done, and Hahn has to bring us a quality return), the Sox are left with limited choices. Our hopes of drafting high for a Bryant or Schwarber to fall into our laps probably wont happen. And we've seen how FA has helped us these last few seasons. Trading may be one of the few means to obtain a superstar.
  10. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 11:11 PM) I'd argue that it's really KCR and the Twins that we have to worry about, not the Tigers. Lol my fault i meant the Twins
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 11:07 PM) Go take another look at the White Sox position players draft under Williams by career WAR. It's not a performance close to that of a winner. Bad doesn't begin to describe our scouting. It's an atrocious, almost disgraceful, run of not developing positional prospects. You'd think by random f***ing luck they'd develop soneone better than Ryan Sweeney ir Gordon Beckham with all the rounds of a baseball draft multiplied by the drafts under Williams.
  12. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:46 PM) Have you looked at us recently? We are a mirror image of both of those clubs. We're hopeless, but it's not nearly as bad. Whenever you have a pitcher of Sale's calibur leading Rodon and Quintana it's not terrible. However, where it's similar is we're both hopelessly behind several divisional opponents who are in a MUCH better position to compete. My question is, how do we compete with Kansas City and Detroit come 2016 and beyond? When that question is answered, we'll be no better than those clubs dealing with their divisional leaders.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 10:35 PM) They did win 90 games the season following the World Series, and that's enough to get into the post-season more often than not these days...so you had the anomalies of the Twins/Tigers both being better in one season (same as the NL Central this year). They got to the playoffs in 2008, and made strong/competitive runs in 2010 and 2012, as well as adding Peavy/Rios/Beckham/Quentin/Floyd/Danks/Alexei Ramirez/Viciedo. Unfortunately, it didn't work out...but it's not like they immediately collapsed. If anything, they held onto the veteran core pieces for too long instead of starting the rebuilding in 2007-09 instead of pushing it all the way back to 2012/2013, essentially. It was more faded into obscurity...rather than being driven into the ground. Bringing in Thome, Mackowiak and Javy V. seemed like solid moves at the time. Of course, their FA moves this off-season were applauded by many as well, and we all know how that worked out. "Unfortunately it didn't work" is the perfect summary for this team post 2008. It suggests we've made numerous trades and FA signings to assemble teams that appeared to be able to compete......but unfortunately it didn't work it. I do agree though that rebuilding should have taken place after 2007, even considering the 2008 season. Another phrase with this team is waiting too long. Waiting too long to trade someone, waiting too long to reassemble a team.
  14. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 09:53 PM) the Scott Feldman trade has to be one of the worst in the last 20 years. Also didn't realize arrieta is 29 I wouldn't say it's anywhere close to the worst of the last 20 years. Think Liriano, Nathan and Bonser for AJ Pierzynski, for one. Padres have made a few historically bad deals too just this year. But regardless, these are the type of one-sided trades we've been missing with this organization. We need the type of trade that sets us forwars without giving up much. Yes i know everyone is looking for that -- but we need that ONE big franchise changing trade if we're thinking of improving this offense beyond FA or the draft.
  15. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 07:25 PM) Hopefully he takes Guppies starts from now on. Ventura wouldn't have the courage to limit Shark's starts entering FA. He'll find Johnson a few starts though in place of Rodon.
  16. Another useless White Sox victory. I can tell everyone on here is very excited! The competition is so bunched up around our draft position, even a 4 game win streak would have us drop several slots.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) @JJStankevitz: The #WhiteSox were 49-51 when the trade deadline passed. With today's loss, they're 11-17 since. So what many of us thought would happen....did happen. Atleast we decided to hold onto Shark for a draf.......nothing.
  18. So......Ventura is not interested in bringing in Thompson here?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 08:00 PM) Please let Samardzija accept the QO and then put up a 5.89 ERA next year so some changes might actually take place in this organization. Then again, Buddy Bell would get promoted to GM or manager, unfortunately. If this is how he ends the season I'd rather they not offer it. We can pay league minimum for Johnson to do exactly the same. How we proceed should all depend on how Shark ends the season.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 07:42 PM) Yeah, he had Jed Hoyer gift him to him. Anytime someone wants to gift wrap an all-star for us would be appreciated
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 07:36 PM) Not exactly but should be just over $16 million. For that price let him go. But only after admitting they should have trades him midseason. If Hahn/KW remains so be it, but id rather they learn from their mistakes. Mainly understanding what team they have regardless of a 7-1 run before the deadline, and not letting fanboys screaming WHITE FLAG from 18 years ago decide their roster moves
  22. QUOTE (Saufley @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 07:39 PM) Get used to it because when Hawk leaves he's probably the replacement. The way Stone interacts with him is how Hawk interacted with DJ, it's not a good booth relationship. Stone was condescending to him all yesterday. I could imagine the White Sox going cheap though for Hawks replacement
  23. This embarrassment that is Shark goes to prove we should have dealt him for whatever package we deemed best at the deadline. A huge failure for Hahn/KW, especially if we dont offer a QO or worse off he accepts it. While it was predictable the team would fall apart after the deadline, we didn't anticipate him falling apart like this. Now we're left in a terrible position, and as Balta suggested, we cant even watch Johnson pitch because they'd never sit Shark. Bad season all around. The least they could do is lose and give us some hope for a draft pick
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 06:19 PM) Please god don't accept the QO I swear everything has gone wrong with this team and Shark. From the emergence of Bassitt, to not trading him midseason, to Shark's bed wetting post trade deadline, to now holding out hope he doesn't accept a QO so we can receive a draft pick. It's ridiculous, but we deserve it honestly. Bad team, bad management, bad luck
