  1. Absolutely. I called home to have the replay recorded for historical purposes, and to view this pitiful effort when I'm in need of comedic relief.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 10:21 PM) If Reinsdorf was still holding out hope to salvage this season, it has officially ended tonight. And there were 20,700 witnesses who will remember this game for a long time. I'm glad this game happened. Typically these games that almost summarize the season and convince most of our fate have occurred in September. You need this pitiful effort to sober up and realize, even if it is "just one game," we're not going anywhere.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:59 PM) Lefties hit .117 against Cecil, so of course, that means Gillaspie should leadoff instead of using Keppinger. Is this game on CSN? I have to watch a replay of this embarrassment.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) How come Marty never posts when the Sox are on a winning streak? How come Dick Allen never posts when the Sox give up a late lead?
  5. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) Hawk is a joy What'd he say? God I wish I had recorded this game.
  6. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:51 PM) C'mon like you guys didn't know that was coming?! What's sad is this is the most enjoyable game I've watched all season, but for all the wrong reasons.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) How come Marty never posts when the Sox are on a winning streak? Probably because of the rarity of a winning streak. How many times have you had to examine this theory of yours?
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:47 PM) Mistake #7 this game. 4 on the Cubans, combined. SHEESH. We really don't deserve to win this game. It's almost (and I said ALMOST) to the point where they need to learn that you can't give up 7 outs combined offensively/defensively...and still win. Not rooting for a loss, but pretty much disgusted with our complete lack of accountability. I am, and in fact I hope it becomes legendary for the amount of miscues carrying on through the game. The more embarrassing, the more likely someone will take a look at this accountability issue.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 08:21 PM) I totally forgot he was hurt. Of course. He's just another forgettable piece of a forgettable season.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 11, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) And this is where our current state of purgatory is putting us in a difficult position. Were the draft to be held in 2014, based on today's standings: 1) Miami 2) Houston Then a huge drop-off 3) Mets 4) Cubs 5) Milwaukee 6) LA Angels 7) Toronto/Dodgers 9) Seattle 10) Minnesota 11) WHITE SOX So we're basically close to terrible, and yet not even in a Top 10 draft position. Let's say we were winning at roughly a .400 clip (where the Mets are), would it make any difference to be at 23-35 right now versus 28-34 (but most likely a team 4-10 games under .500 without any changes, taking into consideration the more difficult 2nd half schedule) for our attendance/revenue over the remainder of the season? Or if we had the Cubs' 25-36 record? Yet they're probably going to end up with another Top 5 draft pick. With Peavy out, is there anyone who realistically thinks this Sox team has a chance to compete with DET? YES. This is exactly the problem with baseball hell. Now, I'm sure you may receive a rebuttal of "you cannot guarantee success of a high draft pick" but as you've highlighted is there any real difference between losing 5-6 more games with regards to attendance? Why not help give ourselves more options? We wouldn't have competed with Detroit even with Peavy. Without him, atleast Hahn should be resigned to our fate.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:28 PM) Flash, how many organizations would you say are in worst shape than the Sox are (current roster and farm system)? If we're including the current MLB roster and the farm system into an overall organizational ranking, we're among the worst. Luckily Houston is there to push us up.
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:26 PM) I've always been in favor of winning as many games as possible, but the last several seasons have kind of jaded me to the point I just want heads to roll. We'll be seeing a lot of Sox on other teams' rosters in coming seasons and you just know they'll be doing a lot of damage against the Sox. Couldn't they tell in spring training that this offense would be abysmal? Do they pay our GM, president, scouts, etc?? A station to staion team with absolutely no speed, no plate discipline and the only hope of scoring runs the long ball. Yet we let 27 home runs go in AJP and Paulie is simply too old to hit 20-25 home runs and Dunn is Dunn. Even if he somehow runs into 25-30 home runs, he'll be a detriment. LOL you and I had many arguments about this issue in 2007, when I was actively promoting losing and you had that "I always want my team to win" mindset. But, I don't know how you can be too upset about the offense. I'd say how this team is now is how a majority thought it would be entering spring training -- good pitching, mediocre offense overly reliant on the homerun, likely under .500 . Hahn very well may have unofficially thought of this season as treading water. Next season will likely be the same unless there's some shrewd FA signings and trades.
  13. OMGrosso in to put this game out of grand slam reach.
  14. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 09:59 AM) The moment Jake Peavy and Alex Rios are traded, I'll be happier. That will show me there is a plan. They should also DFA Adam Dunn to save me anger. I'm with you on this. I wish they'd accept losing with dignity come the end of this month (hopefully there's no random 5 game winning streak thrown in) dangle Peavy and Rios. You have two trading chips, Hahn -- now build our future.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 11:09 PM) I wonder how many in a row Sox are going to lose. Once you hit 10 and upwards of 10, that's to the point heads need to roll. Whose heads? Dunno. If that's what it takes, then we should all hope for a 10 game losing streak. Whats an extra three losses on this season, anyway? And personally, not that heads rolling should mean shifting coaches (atleast now), but there should be significant roster changes.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) 6 games until KW's 60 game evaluation. I guarantee that's going to be extended because of our upcoming schedule. "Let's wait until the end of June, after the favorable schedule, to see where this team is."
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 04:55 PM) With all of the flops by the "high ceiling" guys the past few drafts, it makes me wonder if we will go back to the high floor, low ceiling type picks. I sure as f*** hope not. Championships aren't built off Lance Broadway draft selections. I recall many here on Soxtalk suggesting Broadway and his ilk would be good trade baits because they'd put up quality minor league numbers and be appealing to a trade partner. Not only was that not true, but it was a terrible draft philosophy. I would rather draft high potential over the low ceiling every pick of every draft. Give me the Nevin Griffith over Kyle McCulloch. Since there's no certainty in any pick, highly regarded or not, why not gamble on potential? Now, I haven't been following the draft or who may be available around our selection; but past years have shown that we're unpredictable.
  18. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 07:40 PM) There's a difference between being lazy and being run down. I don't think you realize how banged up catchers get, especially those who catch as many games as AJ. That's why catchers get a pass for not running out ground balls to the second baseman when it's not a critical point in the game. Still, AJ hustled on a lot of ground balls when it mattered. A lot of the backhand attempts were probably also due to him being banged up and playing in pain. AJ was the last of the vocal on field leaders the Sox had. Losing him certainly in part has something to do with the Sox lack of focus. I doubt this has any appreciable affect on on-field performance. And honestly, I hope no one in management reads your posts and thinks it's a good idea; because then we may get one of those gritty (ie, terrible) veteran players and justify keeping him around for his leadership.
  19. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 10:21 AM) In the likely (but not certain) event that Beckham comes back and is the player he always was, the fans are going to hate him extra because of how much nonsense Hawk has been spewing about him turning the season around. I feel like Hawk has done him a huge disservice -- everyone was comfortable with him not being very good before. I was listening to his Beckham slurping yesterday, embarrassed to have even heard it. All he's doing is delaying having to make an honest assessment of the White Sox. If anyone follows his philosophy (which I'm sure many don't) when is it ever right to judge a struggling team? There's always going to be several players slumping, injured, or some other excuse to extend hope just a little bit longer.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 3, 2013 -> 12:38 PM) It's not even that. He passed the eye test. God, another guy who passed the eye test? 2008 Carlos Quentin. It seemed almost impossible to pitch to that version of that guy. It's too bad that he both hates hits own wrist and is a mental midget. You know who else loves the eye test? The Soxtalk Meathead. Its his preferred methodology for evaulation of a player
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 30, 2013 -> 03:53 PM) The Cubs are simply a better and more talented team than the White Sox - the White Sox just happen to not be in a division with the Cardinals so they get to tease the silly idiots who think they have a chance a little bit longer. I enjoy distancing myself from Soxtalk for awhile and then returning and reading through posts by the same members (often year to year) who cannot seem to recognize a White Sox team for what it is. I don't know if immersing yourself in every pitch of every game and then coming on here to discuss it every day removes you objectivity, but it's troubling in some cases. This is not a well constructed ballclub. They will not be winning in the playoffs.
  22. QUOTE (Jillian Michaels' Abs @ May 30, 2013 -> 03:10 PM) Then clearly, they want the season to be over with. Good, we'll all back on this season much they same as 07, 09, 11 anyways -- forgettable. I'm hoping that the highlights of this season center around the emergence of Hector Santiago as a front line starter, and the stellar trade package we hopefully receive for Jake Peavy.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ May 30, 2013 -> 09:47 AM) I'd go with this: DeAza 8 Ramirez 6 Rios 9 Viciedo 7 Konerko 3 Flowers 2 Peavy 1 Gillaspie 5 Keppinger 4 Is there some Beautiful Mind logic to having Peavy bat 7th? Or Flowers anywhere but 8th?
