  1. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 21, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Addicts. Just hoping that the next series of moves are in our favor. Sox are due for some good luck, right? Absolutely, if they're smart and take the best available trade package and not just whatever replacement level players put them in the best position to compete in 2016. You know, during their supposed three year window.......
  2. I don't believe we're intent on trading Shark. As a perceived rental among other rentals he's not a highly sought after commodity. Quintana will be dealt in a package with Montas to Houston, Toronto, or Los Angeles. I'm not up to date on those teams full rosters and which players (particulary from their minor league systems) are expendable,, but it'll be following this order: 1 MLB bat, 1 Top 5 offensive prospect, 1 Top 5-10 rated pitching prospect And years from now we'll be regretting dealing Montas. Also we'll resign Shark to a below market valued contract Those are my predictions
  3. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 10:28 AM) Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 8m8 minutes ago Sources: #WhiteSox in “listening mode.” Samardzija most likely to go; only potential free agent of significance. Team also could add. Ken Rosenthal ‏@Ken_Rosenthal 8m8 minutes ago #WhiteSox will not tear down, trade Sale, etc. Did not simply put club together for 2015. View season as first of at least 3-year window. I don't expect the White Sox to just disclose to everyone their sellers, but it's annoying hearing of a three year window. Its the type of nonsense I can imagine them believing in. That idea to me is nothing more than being bull-headed and reassuring yourself that while things didnt go as expected, this is our "window" so lets just try mixing around more pieces and ignoring our farm system so we can compete next season!
  4. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 20, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) Alvarez is about to be traded by the Pirates. He has two more years until he a fa. If he can still handle third I'd love to buy low there. Problem is he can't handle 1B, yet alone hit. Pittsburgh is essentially platooning him. He has never really been able to show any consistency offensively, so all we'd really be buying on is his potential from 5+ years ago and his power. We'd be better off with Gillespie than throwing Alvarez in any trade. However I can honestly imagine the White Sox doing it, though. For all the typical White Sox reasons. It seems like a move in the mold of Gavin Floyd, a highly regarded from Top Draft pick struggling (with Alvarez though his struggles have extended far longer than Floyd with Philadelphia).
  5. QUOTE (harkness @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:14 PM) Did you guys catch that? I'm reading that as he didn't agree with leaving Sale in that long. I immediately thought of Robert DeNiro when I saw it, probably just as pissed too But Really it could have been that, or maybe they weren't warmed up soon enough for his liking
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) Hahn's gotten a free pass for a terrible offseason (in terms of results on the field). He needs to win a few of these big trades going forward, as so far he doesn't have a lot to show at the big league level besides Eaton/Avi. Yes, and personally I won't accept the excuse that he's a rental to explain whatever mediocre package we receive. This situation is of his own creation, so he needs to get some future players out of it. Send evaluators to an interested teams Rookie and A level squads and have people do their jobs and locate talent. We've been at the other end of far too many deals ending in a wash, it's time to stop shoulder shrugging and thinking "oh well he's just a rental so all we could get is some minor league filler." I honestly believe the organization has this mindset in trades to always be fair to their partner. Whether its laziness or just bad luck with past deals, im with you; Hahn needs to win big
  7. Also, to answer the inevitable question, no I don't like wasting a possible rotation of Sale/rodon/quintana/fulmer with terrible offensive teams. There are two many holes and you just know they're not going to completely overhaul the lineup (even though they should).
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 19, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Who can they trade other than Samardzija? Bonifacio, Beckham and a couple of relievers for spare parts. I suppose they could dump Alexei and put Saladino there, but what fans will buy them competing for anything next year with Sanchez/Saladino up the middle, no 3b, Avi and Flowers starting? Likely Samardzija or Quintana would be the only legitimate piece, but for me it represents more than just his return value -- a trade finally recognizes this season for the failure it is and allows us to move on. Give Sanchez, Saladino consistent playing time. Promote Erik Johnson and Montas. Honestly, worrying about the fans and how they'll receive the team is exactly why we've always tried this "building on the fly" nonsense. If we're terrible again, so be it. Let there be 5,000 people in the stands. Hahn will just have to learn from his mistakes, and those of his predecessor, particularly when it concerns the lack of a minor league pipeline. I feel myself and others have been saying this going back to 2003, the White Sox have to drastically improve their minor league system (from top to bottom) to have SUSTAINED success. Look at the teams continually in the playoffs, are they building on the fly from year to year? At this point, the draft is our only legitimate means of otaining star talent. May as well embrace losing (atleast this season) and hope for that Top 3 draft pick!
  9. I'd say this is the defining game for convincing anyone in the front office who believed otherwise that this season is done. You can't sell hope anymore, especially your ace pitcher losing against the division rivals and the offense doing its own updated version of Corpseball. It actually feels like the kind of day to expect a trade or two. Sunday home game, conclusion of a terrible series, why not start now with unloading what we can?
  10. Wow. Terrible AB by Alexi swinging at a face high faceball on a 2-1 count and bases loaded. Fun bad EDIT: It was actually a face high changeup on the replay.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2015 -> 10:54 AM) Any team that even wants to get us to talk about Sale is going to have to do a lot of things they otherwise wouldn't be willing to do. I believe it starts with having the offensive equivalent of Sale. We're talking someone who is established as a top offensive talent, young, and under control for many years. Here's the list: Stanton, McCutchen, Trout. Which honestly sounds crazy involving MVP players, but that's where I'd start the conversation. If we're going to be shut down (which is inevitable), step down to top prospects, or recently promoted players. Such as: Bryant and Schwarber. If we can't agree with another team on these terms, it's not worth it. Keep Sale and attempt to patchwork assemble a team around him.
  12. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jun 17, 2015 -> 05:14 PM) We both had the same idea yesterday. I agree with this. For plans such as those to matetialize, we need another embarrassing loss. I know how people react to such comments, but tonight for example, what is benefited from a win? Changes need to be forced with any team, especially ours; and any start from here on out Danks craps the bed is preferable. Nothing is going to change otherwise
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:59 PM) Quite the year for their fans so far. I'm envious of their young talent. Atleast they shouldn't be drafting high again for the foreseeable future
  14. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 08:02 PM) for how many years? Thats decided on a yearly basis. If we're going to fall short of expectations, then we may as well put ourselves in a position to possibly draft a franchise player. You obviously hope for the best from year to tear, but since it's looking likethis isn't our year it's time to look forward. Even if it is "still early" and any other excuse involving our fanbase.
  15. Also figure for all this talk of unloading veterans, it's useless unless we're dealing from a position of strength or dumping salary. We should trade Quintana, but I'm not confident with what they'll receive (judging by past trades) and not entirely sure how the trade market is looking for SP. I'd say having another Top 5 draft pick is worth more to us than anything we'd receive via trade. We've rarely been a team to sell high and reap the bebefits
  16. QUOTE (Condor13 @ Jun 15, 2015 -> 07:18 PM) SERIOUS QUESTION FOR EVERYONE At what point do you start rooting for the no hitter? I know that I personally will start rooting for it after the 6th inning (for many reasons). Which I guess is basically after the 5th inning cause our 7, 8, 9 hitter aren't gonna het a hit. I agree, sixth inning when you realize a loss is inevitable it becomes an issue of entertainment and why not have the same pitcher no-hit us again? I feel it also brings all issues concerning our offense to the forefront again, which isn't exactly new but just a reinforcement of this team's mediocrity. Nothing will change as a result, but its fun-bad and atleast worth a chuckle.
  17. I know they'll never do it (perhaps Boston, NYY, NYM or Cubs will), but I'd honestly grab either Aiken or Matuella at our slot. Considering the underwhelming talent available in this draft I'd rather take a chance with an injured pitcher perhaps never succeeding than drafting the next Broadway or McCulloch. Hell, even if they denied our offer we're still picking Top 10 next year with another Top 20 (I would have said Top 10 a few weeks ago but theyll prbably flounder around .500 all year)
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 10:37 PM) God, I hope not. 14-14 would be so nice, and then move on with the season. 10-18, we're f***ed. This is a 75-80 win team, we'll be f***ed by several AL central teams along the way
  19. SSI, B>W.....i feel it has been years since I've talked to you two scalawags I'll have to watch the replay later to fully appreciate his level of suck, I suppose
  20. What exactly is Flowers failing at now? (At work, not able to hear/see)
  21. Hello Soxtalk, I figured someone with more knowledge than I have about air-conditioning could possibly lend their expertise. I'm considering purchasing a raised ranch (similar image below for those of you unfamiliar with the type of house) from an elderly woman through a friend of my family. Original owner, so it's the typical interior you'd expect of an 80 year old woman -- including no central A/C; just one big ass window unit located near the kitchen. My issue is I'd like to install central A/C; however, maybe 10 years down the road I'd probably entertain the idea of making a second floor addition. Here are the options: 1. Don't remove kitchen window unit, place additional window units around house 2. Place a HVAC system in the attic for now, and then in the future when an addition is considered break it down and reinstall in the second floor addition. 3. Install Central A/C with all necessary duct work, then make accommodations later (with a larger A/C unit, additional ducts) to cool the entire house. I'm sure I'm missing an idea or two. If anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate the info. What I'm ultimately trying to do is cool myself off for the meanwhile without having to pay too much in the future when a possible addition is made. Example of a similar raised ranch and what I'd look to do for an addition:
  22. 2005 down the stretch when Cleveland began to gain on us I frequently posted this lol:
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 10, 2013 -> 05:02 PM) We have to cross our fingers and pray he doesn't go down to elbow surgery in 2014 or 2015 or we'll all be revisiting this thread and saying what an idiot Hahn was for holding onto him too long when each year going forward (riddled with non-competitive teams and sub-.500 records and apathy) the White Sox ended up blowing the opportunity of a decade to rebuild their franchise and breathe new life back into it. This idea is what frightens me. Sale is exactly the ace-caliber starting pitcher you'd want anchoring your rotation -- but are we in any position to compete in 2014? 2015? If we're holding onto him, Hahn may as well do everything within his power to build the team to compete. It's useless keeping Sale for the next several years and risk depleting his value if Hahn cannot convince himself that we're in no better position to atleast win the division.
  24. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 7, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) That is one gross lineup. Yet there is still a belief in the locker room that they're not out of it.....lol
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 03:43 PM) I'd rather they pull a Strasburg and shut down Sale What I feel is we'll hold onto Sale (whether that's wrong or right depends on the trade packages that were available) and in the next season or two his elbow will explode. Then we'll be left with nothing. I'm a proponent of trading him, now. This is where I wish we were the Cubs and didn't have to worry about appeasing a fan base with a marquee player.
