  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 03:16 PM) The Red Sox would be an interesting partner for Q http://meadowparty.com/blog/2015/10/08/klawchat-10815/ Wouldn't want any of those guys that Law mentioned. For Quintana, I'd ask for Holt, Devers, Margot, Owens, and Ball. They'd probably say no, but Q is that valuable.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2015 -> 03:00 AM) So it's 12:45 a.m., Oct 1, and I'm driving home after leaving the office and getting some snacks. Yes, I roll a stop sign on a side street, not a major road. Cop pulls me over and I immediately signal and pull over. He comes up, gets my license and insurance. He tells me he stopped me for rolling the stop sign. Obviously that time of night they are looking for drunks. I haven't had a drink even in a couple years believe it or not. He comes back and says, 'i am going to ticket you for the stop sign violation.' I told him it was late and I guess I wasn't concentrating and said sorry twice that I wasn't paying attention. I still get the ticket despite the fact nobody's on the road at that time on this side street. My question to you is ... was this a monetary decision by the cop? End of the month, beginning of new month? Pressure to make some $$$ for the city? Or b.) did I get the ticket for being too chatty. I mean I was very nice, but I offered up to him what I was doing. I said I had left work and went and got a snack on the way home and wasn't paying attention. I didn't give him the opportunity if he wanted to ask me a question and have me answer apologetically. I merely was apologetic to begin with so I may have blown it by not letting him take control and try to get me to beg. Is it the old, "f*** you nice guy. I'm a f***ing cop and I'm ringing you up." Or was it b.) listen bub, we need money in this city and by rolling that stop sign you just gave us a cool hundred bucks, chump!" Which is it. I mean, cmon. that time of night. Side street? No cars in the area? Yes I f***ed up big time in not coming to a complete stop. But geez. ... Tough to stomach. If I am a law breaking person, and deserve to get slapped by that cop, tell me. I can take it. I had no previous tickets this past year; I don't know if that shows up or not when he calls in my information. p.s. the cop did seem like potentially a dick. He told me they were having problems at that intersection. I really truly felt like saying but obviously didn't: "At 1 a.m.? With no traffic at all around? COngratulations on raising 140 bucks for your department, officer. You got me. I rolled the sign; no doubt I did but nooo you couldn't let me off." I'm telling you I was 100 percent nice not even a hint of my being a dick. Like I said I was a bit overly friendly however. I was hoping he'd ask me if I had a drink but he didn't even go there. --humor me and tell me when u got your last ticket for a driving violation or parking. This happened to me 4 years ago when I was in college. Going home to my college house at 1130pm, completely rolled a stop sign, cop was right there, did a u turn, and got me. I explained to him that I was just going home, and the cop let me off. I was lucky.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:27 PM) Bears released Timu. Really hope he clears waivers and hits the PS. Really liked what I saw from him in preseason. No clue who the backup ILB is right now. Jonathon Anderson on the main roster? Lamin Barrow.
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 06:20 PM) How are they going to move bad players and get anything in return? They can start with letting Alexei walk, although that won't be easy, as absurdly sentimental as this organization is. Otherwise, the bad players are the vets the acquired last year. go young, please. They can eat LaRoche's last year of his contract. Melky is fine, you can still win with him. He just needs to have a more consistent year, not come alive the 2nd half of the year. Do you want Saladino starting everyday at SS? Desmond? Desmond is worse than Alexei (just has more power) and going to cost a ton more money and years. If you want to go young, what are some of your ideas?
  8. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 04:27 PM) A strength of this class is left handed bats. We could definitely use some of those.
  9. Not a big loss in Guerra. I expected that he would get sent off the 40 man. At least Nieto stays in the organization. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 17h17 hours ago End of regular season means players outrighted during season are electing free agency. Some names coming... Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 17h17 hours ago Hector Noesi (CWS), Javy Guerra (CWS), Sean O'Sullivan (PHI), Todd Redmond (TOR), Jemile Weeks (BOS), Ernesto Frieri (TB) elect free agency. Looks like we'll be losing Guerra and Noesi as well unless they sign minor league deals.
  10. I heard Coghlan is getting benched. LaStella at 3B Bryant at LF Schwarber at RF
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 09:44 AM) i think the option would be for now, a college player. i am talking about the sox preference to get the player closer to the big league faster. that is until when it is not needed. the past several draft just happen lucky that the player who was there in the first round happen to be a college player. again, i am talking about sox choices. your point that i wanted a hs catcher, well as someone else always put this out there. show me the link on this sox talk draft that stated as such. i really wanted another pitcher or happ. i really don't find myself going for a hs'er unless this is an exceptional talent. I think we college player with 1st pick and high ceiling HS player if/when we get the comp pick from Samardzija.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 7, 2015 -> 06:53 AM) 2 things, he is a hs'er and where the sox are selecting, he is not an option. second he is listed as maybe a later 1rnd'er right now. now when the new season starts and end, there will be many changes .... Why isn't he an option because he's a HSer? The prep C Stephenson last year wasn't an option until he blew up late last year, and you wanted him quite a bit because he fit a position of need.
  13. keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 4m4 minutes ago Eddy Julio Martinez is not signing with the Giants and remains a free agent. Hey now....
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 06:04 PM) you are correct, i didn't make a what if. my first point is QO which i stated next was salary request which i stated. next i say i would put him in 3b. of course it will depend if he is an option, can he play 3b. considering he was a ss his career, moving over to 3b would be an option. nice try. My post was not about the QO or salary. My post was strictly about him moving to 3B which he has not played at all in his ML career. He's bad at SS, I'd be hesitant to play him at 3B, that's your what if.
  15. Ok so? You can still win with all those guys. Last year the Giants had one pitcher with a WAR above 3. That was Madison Bumgarner at 3.9 and not another pitcher with a WAR above 2. Hudson and Peavy finished with a 1.9 WAR. This year, the Sox had 2 pitchers with a WAR above 4 (Sale 6.2, Quintana 4.8) and 2 more pitchers with WARs above 2 (Shark 2.7, Rodon 2.1 in 23 starts). Hitting wise the Sox managed 2 players with a WAR of 3 or above in Abreu or Eaton. Giants had 4 hitters with WARs above 3 in Posey, Crawford, Pence, and Sandoval. You add a piece or 2 on offense to this core, and they definitely can make some noise next year. Factor in possibly an outlier year from Melky and this offense could do enough with the pitching staff that we have.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:56 PM) i understand but he would be a nice option at 3b, again dependent on 2 things, salary request and QO, Why do you think so? You're always one that doesn't like " what ifs". Desmond hasn't played an inning at 3B in his ML career.
  17. QUOTE (VAfan @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) For all you Heyward guys, I thought this juxtaposition was fascinating. It's the ranking by OPS for major leaguers. 47 Jason Heyward STL 547 79 160 33 4 13 60 23 3 56 90 .293 .359 .439 .797 6.5 48 Charlie Blackmon COL 614 93 176 31 9 17 58 43 13 46 112 .287 .347 .450 .797 2.3 49 Adam Eaton CHW 610 98 175 28 9 14 56 18 8 58 131 .287 .361 .431 .792 3.9 Adam Eaton is basically the equivalent to Heyward at the plate. We know that. It's the other things that Heyward brings to the team as mentioned in the 1st post on page 42 that would benefit the Sox. Baserunning Defense Left handed bat
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 05:20 PM) Couldn't resist this one. The White Sox have 1 player in the top 30 in MLB in fWAR, 2 players in the top 60, 3 players in the top 90, and 4 players in the top 120 assuming Samardzija departs. That's some unbelievable core. You'd never guess that a team could have players that good in their core just by chance. Clearly that's something that we have to take advantage of while we have it.
  19. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) Who isn't getting older? How does he do it? I edited it lol
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) Jerry pretty much has to be in "absolute win now mode" for him to greenlight those moves. He's getting older, and his core of Sale, Quintana, Abreu and Eaton aren't getting any younger.
  21. I love the name on the jersey look. When I played baseball in college a few years ago, we had our names on the back our jerseys. It felt like a sense of accomplishment, and that people can know who you are, rather than just going off numbers. That's just me though.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Reasons Heyward makes sense: Buying his prime years. Elite defensively. Gets on base. Highly marketable. Left handed bat. Could be a 20-20 guy. The problem: You're going to have to cut your losses on LaRoche and move Melky to DH. So Heyward will be SUPER expensive. But damnit, the OF D is fun to picture. Heyward literally helps this team in the categories that the Sox are weak on as you mentioned above. He makes the most sense this offseason, it's just a matter if JR is willing to open the checkbook a little more and get Heyward signed, along with eating LaRoche's last year or moving him to the "veteran bench role" type of player.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 6, 2015 -> 03:37 PM) Contract is already pretty big and not sure which direction the M's are going in with the new leadership but I would love Kyle Seager. Wonder because of his contract if he would be a little cheaper than others. Only gonna be 28 next year, durable, left handed power, and good defense.
