2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
Yeah, all their balls were in the Correa court with seemingly little in the way of back up plans. Strange strategy. That said, they're very likely getting Correa now. I know some folks, and they've very confident atm. Which is a damn shame. Correa will also be domino for them; Kepler is good as gone, and they will add SP. I could see them being a fit in a larger deal for some of the Marlins SP. I just would have much preferred to see them try to patch work a roster with their savings than add Correa and build around him. As i've said before, I am not privy to Correa's medical records, but I don't see him turning into a pumpkin anytime soon.

Segura is so meh. I am glad the Sox passed on Segura for what he got. If we aren't getting a really good 2B that fits the team well - which we obviously are not at this point - just give me a platoon guy that can also cover the OF. I think that is a much better fit than trying to repeat the Harrison tactic again in 23, or signing a declining player to a 2 year deal.

I just don't see Correa becoming an albatross. Especially if the deal improves from 10/$285M, which is sounds like it is. I think this is a bad scenario for the Sox.

2nd Base I guess it’s going to be Sosa or Gonzalez?
Harrison’s defense wasn’t that great for how poor the bat was. Dude had like the yips for a month late in the summer.

Bonds played until he was 42 and Puig wasn’t very good at baseball. I am quite certain that Trevor Bauer will play in the big leagues again. Not saying he deserves the chance to be able to, but I’m pretty sure he will.

I can envision an org two who’s fan base might not be out of the realm of being able to accept him.

$13M player option with $5M buyout. He lost $1M in potential earnings.

Agreed all around.

Negative value player defensively. 100 wRC+ career hitter against RHP. Not a bargain at $10-11M. 2.7 fWAR in 22 was best season since 2019. I don’t think he’s a 4 WAR player moving forward - if other clubs thought he was, Yanks could certainly do much better than Garrett Crochet elsewhere. Look, I said I’d do that deal. I just don’t think Gleyber is a good fit at all. Not because of Romy - Romy is just a guy. But I’d rather get someone who at least does one of hit righties well/LHH or plays plus defense, especially if we’re giving up Crochet and paying Torres $10M+. It’s a fine deal, but it’s far from perfect. But Sox don’t exactly have a lot of options.

Yah, I’m not a big Gleyber guy. He’s sort of more of what we have. RHH, not great defensively. Doesn’t hit RHP that well. Obviously a huge upgrade on Romy/Sosa, but it also effectively blocks Sosa until 2025. Id probably do the swap for Crochet just because Sox have horribly managed him and he’ll probably never start for the Sox. But it’s not a deal I’d be overly excited about, tbh.

I struggle to see why NYY would make this deal unless they’re simply looking to get rid of Gleyber. Which isn’t super encouraging.

"Sell the Team...Jerry" Billboards...
I donated $5. I think it’s great. I don’t even live in Illinois but f*** Jerry. I’ve spent $5 on much dumber s%*# in my life.

Sox Sign Jake Marisnick to minor league deal, NRI
He opted out of his milb with the Mariners just last year, so yah…pretty sure he’ll have an opt out. Doesn’t mean he has to use it.

La Stella makes a ton of sense as an milb flier. The awful defense scares me, but what's the harm in bringing him in for the league min if he makes the roster? I certainly wouldn't guarantee him a roster spot, however.

Would TLR be the 2023 White Sox manager if healthy?
No. The answer is no. We'll never know for sure, but I am sticking with no. Any other scenario is too hard to hard to bear. Did I mention no?

Really confuse Marwin Gonzalez and Jake Marisnick, eh?

Sox Sign Jake Marisnick to minor league deal, NRI
It depends on what their contracts say. They are all milb guys, so no they don't have to be on the 40 man. They likely have opt out dates if they haven't been added to the active roster. Hamilton and Marisnick almost certainly will. Reyes maybe not since he doesn't have much of a track record.

Marisnick was at one time an absolute wizard in the OF. I am sure he’s not quite that but this is a very good guy to get on an milb deal. Instantly jumps to top of the 4th OF depth chart imo.

Carlos Correa is a Twin - 6 yrs $200M
It was. That was before a 2nd team supposedly backed out. That offer is no longer on the table (I know that).

Frazier would have been a great fit.

We are in complete agreement.

Carlos Correa is a Twin - 6 yrs $200M
My guess is their concern is about paying him on the back half of the deal with whatever this medical issue. He isn't getting a 10+ year deal any longer if the Mets officially walk. Twins signing him to like 5-6 year deal at $35Mish AAV would be awful.

It would if it was actually dead spending. I obviously am not privy to Correa's medical records, but I think the chances he comes dead money anytime soon is remote.

Who? There isn't a better alternative on the 40 man roster. They're paying Leury regardless. Cutting Leury and signing like Jonathan Villar - what does that accomplish other than spending more $? The constant Leury handwringing is so dumb. It was a terrible deal; we can all agree on that. But there really is no reason to cut him right now.
