At this point, Rutherford isn't a serious prospect, and he has very little chance to make it to the bigs with the Sox. I have zero issues whatsoever trading him for a reliever. The only OF prospect we have worth holding for the time being is Adolfo (besides the obvious in Robert), and maybe Basabe to a lesser extent.

I am hesitant to pay what would be necessary for Will Harris. A 3 year $40M type deal for a soon to be 36 year old probably isn't going to turn out great.

Still going to need to manipulate the roster for EE. 40 man is now full. Though Zavala and Medeiros should be easy DFAs.

Significantly better. The negative nancies were all basically calling it a 4 year deal because they read the vesting option as 160 innings combined over 21 and 22. Club option is obviously best case scenario for the Sox.

Details a little different than first reported. 4th year is a $20M club option with a $1.5M buyout - not a vesting option. First three years are $18M. not $18.25M. Same $55.5M guarantee though with the buyout.

The best part about Zobrist is he can play 2B for the first couple weeks before becoming a bench bat and platoon option in RF. He is a good fit. But I am also good rolling with Mendick at 2B with Leury in CF and Mazara in RF against LHP. Then Engel in CF and Leury in RF against LHP. It’ll work just fine for a few weeks.

I think if we’re going to force a fit, he’s the best one. I’d prefer just rolling with Leury with a little Engel as the weak side RF platoon as opposed to Pence, SantAna, Puig, Dyson, etc.

McCann is getting paid $5.4M, not the $5.6M you’ve sighted a ton of times in recent days.

Exciting stuff. Didn’t love the fit when at first a few weeks ago, but with Mazara in RF not skimping on the DH became a lot more important. At 1/$12M guarantee there is literally no downside to this. I hope they don’t just give away Collins tho. Sox starting to look very legitimate!

I disagree here. Obviously if someone wants to give you a nice prospect for him, by all means listen. But $5.4M is nothing and it will be really nice to have McCann around. God forbid Grandal gets hurt, we have a starting caliber catcher there ready to take the load for a couple weeks. I’m not trading McCann to save $5.4M and acquire a guy that will never make it past A ball. I also don’t think Collins as the straight backup catcher makes a ton of sense.

Collins should have a spot on the 26 man to open the season. He can optioned when Robert and Madrigal arrive if he’s not performing. AAA season doesn’t open until like 10 days after MLb. I’d rather have the insurance or Collins in AAA than to just trade him or McCann for whatever they can get. All of these guys can fit.

Or they don’t want to just hand him the DH role when a legit DH can be acquired for a $10M 1 year deal. Collins will still get his chances in 2020. It’s better to have options than to simply only have Collins to roll with.

Not clear yet. Should be clarified when Sox officially announce the deal. But I read it as 160 innings in both the 21 and 22 seasons for 23 to vest. Not 160 combined between the two.

Oh for sure. I’m not saving RF for him, I’m saving it for the next FA class and rolling with Mazara for 2020. If Micker blows up the meantime, that’s fantastic.

That too! Love me some Micker. I think off all our prospects sans Robert, he has the highest upside. If he can stay healthy, he’s talented enough to be a top 25 type prospect a year from now.
