  1. Too bad Sousa isn't good defensively, or he'd a nice platoon fit.
  2. I prefer Wheeler to Ryu, and really none of this matters at this point. You can pick whatever timeframe to fit your argument, but the most fair timeframe is their entire career, and they've pitched the same amount. I do agree that Ryu is a bigger injury risk going forward which is really all that matters.
  3. Probably but the Twins are going to take a major step back. When 60% of your rotation the first 25% of the season is Lewis Thorpe, Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer, you're going to lose a lot of games. Best case scenario for the Sox is that the Twins are forced to trade away major future talent in Royce Lewis and/or Kirilloff for SP because they've left themselves no other options. Or maybe its just filling in their rotation with guys like Nova and Smyly. Either way, their rotation is pretty gross.
  4. Well, they've been in the league the same number of years and have pitched virtually the exact same number of innings, sooooo..... I get that Wheeler had 1 terrible injury that knocked him out for a long time and Ryu several smaller injuries. But at the end of the day, they have in fact pitched the same amount over the same amount of time.
  5. Its nice to have depth. I prefer Collins in AAA as opposed to trading McCann for whatever they can get and using Collins as a strict backup that only plays 5x a month. That doesn't do him much good either.
  6. I believe they both had OPS+ of 110 against LHP. I just don't think it makes much sense to pencil Engel in as Mazara's platoon mate when Leury is on the roster. Hopefully they sign a lefty masher and neither are the regular platoon mate, though.
  7. Certainly not the way I read it, but if that is what it is, then yes that we may as well assume 4/$74.
  8. Because Leury hits lefties better than Engel. Engel sucks man. Any situation where Engel projects to get more than spot starts and late defensive replacement work is a situation I cannot get behind at this point.
  9. Lol he could make 34 starts in 2020 and 2021 and then make 25 in 2022 and not hit 160 innings, and you’d call the contract terrible? 160 innings requires 27 starts of at least 6 innings....it’s not like that couldn’t be easily controlled in 2022 if the Sox don’t want 2023 vesting.
  10. How to you figure that throwing 160 innings in 21 and 22 is a given? If he spends anytime whatsoever on the DL in those seasons, it would get close. He could easily make 25 or so starts in 2022 and still not hit it. The Sox control it, and honestly, they project to have plenty of other rotation options by 2022.
  11. Again, I said OD rotation. Kopech won’t be in the Sox OD rotation either. Obviously Pineda will factor into their rotation come late May, and the Twins may decide to get Graterol some starts next summer. But none of that changes the fact that the Twins rotation is a clusterfuck, especially early in then season, with minimal means left to fix it. I’d be shocked if they were able to sign Ryu.
  12. I am definitely not just going to trade McCann to save $5.4M. If someone wants to give us something real for him, sure. But I’d rather keep him than trading for a lottery ticket that we’ll never hear from after 2020.
  13. I said OD. Pineda is suspended for 25% of the season, and they’re never going to start a guy (graterol) that has eclipsed 100 innings once in the OD rotation.
  14. I don’t want to trade 4 years of Lopez plus Collins for 2 years of Gray. Not saying it’s a horrible proposal, just not really looking to trade Lopez at his lowest.
  15. Berrios, Odorizzi, Lewis Thorpe, Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer isn’t striking fear in anyone.
  16. I mean 160 innings in both 21 and 22 isn’t a given. If he spends any time any time on the DL either season it gets interesting. I wouldn’t just assume the 4th year is vesting.
  17. Exactly. I’m not going to complain if Sox move Collins and get good value out of him. But just punting him would be so silly.
  18. This I agree with. And I too am perfectly fine rolling with Collins and perhaps add a platoon RF with Mazara instead. But where is Collins gonna play long term? With Abreu locked up, Grandal signed and Vaughn at worst a mid 2021 arrival barring injury, he’s got no where to play. So if they decide to go the EE route, for that reason it makes a little sense. I would rather keep Collins in the org as opposed to trading him, though.
  19. Leury is going to Mazaras platoon mate most of the time once Robert and Madrigal are up. Not Engel.
  20. Hope so. Or in a trade for a real piece. I really don’t want to just give up on Collins. He provides a lot of things this lineup could use. I don’t hate letting him start in AAA, but I definitely wouldn’t like just punting him off for a meh reliever.
  21. Also still should be plenty of space to add a RP, a DH if they decide to go that route and 2B fill-in/bench piece for 2020.
  22. Just did the math, were at $108M for 2020. Should have about $40M off the books for 2021 in Colome, McCann, Herrera, Leury, Gio Gonzalez and Mazara. Just going to assume Mazara is a non tender until he proves otherwise. Even with Gio, Moncada and Lopez entering arb in 21, there should be plenty of payroll space for the final long term piece in RF.
