I mean...you're probably right, as I just said. But they only have ~$65M committed to next 2021 payroll. Add in $15-17M for arb1 raises for Moncada, Giolito. Fry and Lopez, and another $8M or so for Rodon and your at like $90M. They'll have plenty of room to sign Betts or Springer if they want to. There is also guys like Joc, Peralta and Brantley who will make some sense on shorter cheaper deals - even if Adolfo blows up in 2020, they could still sign one of those guys. I don't really think we'll be in the market for SP again next offseason, and if we are, that is not a good sign.

You're right, they probably won't sign Mookie Betts or Springer. But I sure as shit am not removing all doubt a year in advance by handing the single worst defensive OF in the game a 4 year contract. Its not happening man. Time to move on.

Mazara is a one year stop gap making like $5M. Castellanos, at a bare minimum, is going to cost like 4/$65M. That is the difference, and its a big one. Keep RF open for a big splash next offseason. Don't commit to dogshit defense for the majority of our window. Its really quite simple.

As I said in the other thread, of course the Rockies would be / are interested in Moncada and Robert. But they aren't getting them. Those are two of the most valuable trade chips in the entire game. You're not getting them for a guy making $35M a year, who also has an opt out in 2 years. Not even worth discussing.

The White Sox didn't go through this painful process just to jettison one of the premier pieces of the core right when things are getting interesting for a guy making $35M a year. its legitimately not even worth discussing.

I don't understand how this is so hard for you to process. Over the last two seasons, per fWAR, Nick Castellanos has been THE WORST outfield defender in the ENTIRE game. Last season alone, Castellanos was -12.6 dfWAR and Eloy was -11 dfWAR. That is the worst and the ~10th worst outfield defenders in the game. Committing to that situation long term is insane. Especially with our young pitching staff. Please try to understand that.

I think the Mets would want a pretty penny for Diaz. He's interesting no doubt, but I am not ready to give up one of our blue chippers for him.

I don't love the fit either, and not really advocating for it. Just sharing that he appears to be nearing a decision.

Mazara is a slightly below average RF (not awful), he mashes RHP, and adds much need balance to the lineup. He's not perfect, but he is also a 1 year stopgap. Maybe he blows up and he sticks around for 2 years, but if he's the same Mazara he's always been in 2020, we'll have a new RF in 2021. Castellanos or Ozuna isn't happening, man. They don't make any sense at this point.

Arenado doesn't have a ton of surplus value. I wouldn't give up any of our top guys assuming we're taking the whole deal. I would do something like Stiever / Dunning + Collins + Rutherford + backend top 30 throw in. But I don't think the Rockies would even answer the phone call. Someone would beat that deal handily. Arenado is great, but with that contract, we shouldn't be giving up any of the elite prospects, who frankly should have more trade value than a guy making $35M the next 6 seasons. Plus, then we gotta figure out where to move our best player again.

Imagine committing to the worst OF defense in the league for the duration of their contract.

The Twins quite likely have the worst defense in the game when Buxton isn’t playing, which is most of the time.

In a pretty flukey season of career years. I just don’t see it happening again. I think they’re like an 85-88 win team right now. Buxton is such a huge key for them. They’re so much better when he plays, but that’s as good as a coin flip.

Would be cool to turn a couple of the 40 man filler guys into a pen piece. Need a space for EE anyway. You can always use more pen arms, but I’m actually not SUPER concerned about the pen. I’m hoping Hamilton and Burdi can at least play roles. Along with Colome, Bummer, Fry and Cordero hopefully we can at least have an average pen already.

Just strange to me how some Sox fans put the Twins on a pedestal. The Sox have been mostly a dumpster fire for a decade, so I get it in that respect, but the Twins haven’t done shit. It’s an org that frankly has produced very little to be jealous of. My take opinion is a little unique seeing as though I’ve lived the majority of my life in MN, all my best friends are Twins fans, and therefore I know more about the Twins than most “Twins fans”, but still.

39 games, yes. I don’t. I think this is it. They like Thorpe a lot. Graterol likely starts in AA, he may factor in later in the season as needed, but the most innings he’s ever thrown is 102 in a season. Berrios-Odo-Pineda-Hill-Bailey/Thorpe/Graterol is alright, but they won’t actually be throwing those guys out in tandem much at all this season. I also think Berrios’ elbow is worth monitoring. He lost a lot of velocity on his FB towards the middle to back end of the season. They really need him to stay healthy (obviously).

I’ve known about this for a little bit. Good news for our Sox. Hill will be a decent piece for them at some point, but he is going to miss half the season. Pretty encouraging for the Sox - a Berrios, Odorizzi, Bailey, Thorpe, Smeltzer rotation to start the year isn’t very good. Though it obviously gets better with Pinedia joining the fold in late May and Hill sometime in the summer. Twins definitely want Donaldson. But whether they’re willing to be the high bidder remains to be seen.
