  1. Chuck tweeted yesterday that he is at the ST complex getting back into game shape. Rehab forthcoming.
  2. Why Narvaez sucks nuts at catching.
  3. Rodon just threw a ball right down broadway for stike 3 against Candelario. Except Narvaez has no idea how to catch, so it was called a ball. HPB next pitch.
  4. He's been awful in the sense that you clearly expected a former #1 prospect to be much more dominant at this stage in his career. But I've provided you the numbers. Based on pretty much any calculation of WAR, Moncada is on pace for 1.5-2 WAR season. That is very much an everyday regular and it isn't awful or a trainwreck. You just expected him to be great right away, so being a merely an average everyday regular early in his career is horrible in your eyes. I don't care to go in circles anymore. I don't think he's been particularly good this year and I am (very) disappointed, but I am also patient. At worst, he's been an average overall player this season. Even if he never improves on his current shortcomings, he'll still have a long career in the big leagues as an average to slightly above average regular.
  5. Lol. You can spin the numbers however you want to fit your narrative that Moncada is a bad baseball player. Clearly providing you stats that illustrate otherwise doesn't work. We're all disappointed with his season. We all think he should be better. We all hope he will improve. But he hasn't been totally awful or a trainwreck. But continue on.
  6. Ummmm. Only 79 players put up 2.5 WAR or higher in the AL last year. Exclude pitchers and the number is 52. So tons of everyday AL regulars didn't surpass 2.5 fWAR last season. So I don't think your comment really holds much water.
  7. 1.1 fWAR and 1.5 bWAR 73% of the way thru a season isn't "awful" or a "trainwreck". But it certainly is disappointing all things considered.
  8. Smith has already been optioned this year I am pretty sure. So he could be optioned again. Narvaez, who won't be optioned, should still have several left.
  9. I think you're in the minority here. We've discussed at length, don't see any point in discussing it further.
  10. Charlotte's season ends Labor Day, no? I changed my mind on Zavala. Forgot Castillo existed for a minute when making the post. They won't carry 4 catchers.
  11. For one, the quote has been taken out of context. He didn't really say that. Also, he and every other person in the org has probably been asked that question 1000 times. At some point you answer it in a way that people can twist. It's beyond obvious that these guys aren't coming to Chicago this season. If they do at this point, I will being to really doubt that Hahn and Co has any fucking idea what they're doing.
  12. Yah, like I said, will depend on what the market dictates. Qualifying offers always make things interesting. But I too think he'll require a longer term deal.
  13. I will lose so much faith in this FO if Eloy and Kopech are called up in September. That would be straight WTF move. I think they're smarter than that.
  14. Ahhh, was forgetting about Beef for a hot second.
  15. My guess is we see Seby instead of Garneau. DFA Garneau. But probably more likely the other way around. Just don't really see hte point with Garneau. He is already 31 and is never going to climb in front of Narvaez or Smith.
  16. Hard to believe, but September 1st is only 2.5 weeks away. Who do you think gets the call for the final month when rosters expand? Here are my guesses: (*denotes on 40 man) Aaron Bummer* Carson Fulmer* Jordan Stephens Seby Zavala Jose Rondon* Ryan Cordell* Charlie Tilson* Nate Jones (if healthy enough)* Leury Garcia (if/when healthy)* Other potential options: Eloy Jimenez* Michael Kopech Ian Hamilton Jose Ruiz Dustin Garneau* Spencer Adams Ryan Burr Caleb Frare Jordan Guerrero Matt Skole* Jake Elmore Eddy Alvarez Gregory Infante Alex Call Tito Polo
  17. I wouldn't hate Jones on a 1 year deal. I am sure he does better though. I like Pollock, but it really depends on the league wide interest in him. I like him up to a certain point, but I think he'll exceed it. If you could get him on a 2 year $30M type deal, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Doubt that is happening though. I am guessing he'll get a QO offer, which will likely really hurt his market, but I don't think Sox will be super excited to give up their 2nd rounder. Worth monitoring at least. There really aren't any other great options - Carlos Gomez, Jon Jay, Cameron Maybin, and McCutchen (who is no longer a CF IMO) are the top CF types available after Pollock and Jones.
  18. 2 weeks prior to the end of suspension, I believe. So I think he's technically eligible to play in the minors right now.
  19. This opposite field power is insane. Its so effortless.
  20. BUT BUT BUT BUT MONCADA SUCKS!!! Love, Tom@gmail
  21. It just seems premature at this point IMO. I could see a veteran FA signing on a 1 year deal with in the Miguel Gonzalez mold (hope they'd try to do a tad better), but I don't think we'll see any SP signed long term. But I suppose we'll see.
  22. 4/5 of the rotation is filled with dudes already in the bigs + Kopech. Some guys will bust, and maybe one of Gio or Lopez ends up in the pen. But you still have Cease, Dunning, Adams, Hansen, Stephens, Flores, Lambert, Mederos, and Covey that are all in AA or higher. There may be a need to add a FA SP to the core in the coming years. That time is not this offseason.
  23. Disagree. 4/5s of the future rotation is already full with Rodon, Kopech, Lopez and Giolito. I'd hate to fill the final spot and effectively block Stephens from getting his shot next season and later on Cease, Dunning, Adams, etc. Trade Rodon (or plan to trade him over the next 18 months) and the calculus changes a bit.
