  1. True Detective season three is officially a go. http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/true-detec...1202544718/amp/ "The next installment tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods. Mahershala Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas." Nic Pizzolatto will be directing the show too
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 03:17 PM) 4 losses per week for five weeks. That is my wish. And the young guys play well
  3. So far in the rebuild, Coop has more than proven his worth, you can even say that he is the most important person in the rebuild so far. Coop has netted the Sox: Moncada, Kopech, Jiemenez, Cease, Rutherford, Basabe, Diaz, Rose, Flete, Gillapsie, and Cordell. Give him some more guys to slip and let's keep the ball rolling.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 08:54 AM) Fangraphs projection: 1. Phillies 62-100 2. White Sox 64-98 3. Giants 68-94 4. Reds 69-93 I agree with 64-98 for the Sox. They've played a lot better recently. Final 11 series: vs Det 1-2 at Min 1-2 vs TB 1-2 vs Cle 1-3 vs SF 2-1 at KC 1-2 at Det 2-2 at Hou 1-2 vs KC 1-2 vs LAA 2-2 at Cle 1-2 They're playing some teams in the hunt, so the loses could pile up.
  5. It's been said by myself and others here but Anderson's routine at the plate is too loud, it could be causing him to be late to stuff. I'd like to see him tone it down.
  6. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 23, 2017 -> 10:14 PM) I have no issue with losses due to being young players. Last night was a good example. I can't tolerate when anyone on the pitching staff goes into batting practice mode. I have no problem with the Sox losing due to the young guys either, they're young, still developing and learning the ML game.
  7. I'm all on the Tank Train but it's great to see Anderson (who I am admittedly big on) and Moncada come up huge for the team.
  8. Who would you rather have on the field, Davidson or Delmonico?
  9. Wind River is fantastic. I am a big fan of Taylor Sheridan, he was an actor at the end of his rope and decided to pursue his passion of writing. He wrote Sicario, Hell or High Water and now Wind River, which he directed. The movie is pretty riveting from start to finish and really captures the tough landscape of the reservation. It's really poetic too, reminded me of a Cormac McCarthy novel. I loved how Elizabeth Olsen's character wasn't a cliche and how the film avoided tropes whenever it could. The movie does two things in the last 25 minutes that still has me on the edge of my seat, both of which could've easily derailed and ruined the entire movie but it added to the moment. I think Dunkirk is the best Nolan flick, hands down and the best movie of the year so far, I can see it going head to head with Call Me By Your Name for Best Picture. With Dunkirk, Nolan took a lesson he learned or a device he employed on all of his previous films and brought them all to the table here. It's easily his most radical movie since Memento in terms of the movie's structure. Dunkirk is the third act of a bigger film, which is something that Nolan said himself. During the third act of all of films since Batman Begins, Nolan cross cuts on parallel action between multiple perspectives to build suspense. And all of his films since Inception feature a snowball effect where seemingly insignificant things or events early in the film gain importance as the film goes on. He combined both of those approaches on Dunkirk and was able to hold both for 100 minutes. The shorter run time worked well here. I loved the lack of characters and backstory in the film, I hate in movies (especially war movies) where the characters are all sitting down, telling each other about themselves and their lives away from the situation at hand. While the characters in Dunkirk don't verbally speak a lot, they spoke through their actions. Look at Tommy and Alex, both were willing to do anything to get off the beach but unlike Alex, Tommy wasn't willing to do so at the expense of being a bad person. It was a great idea to pair them up on the train because once they get on the train Tommy instantly fell asleep while Alex stayed awake and contemplated what he did on the beach because he was ashamed of himself and how he acted. And the ending shot of Tommy's face looking up in disappointment after reading Churchill's speech while everyone around him celebrates was heartbreaking because he's realizing that he's going back to war. I liked how intimate the film was with the different timelines and how they all played at different tempos. Cinematography was insane, they were able to use 200lb IMAX camera like a GoPro. Editing and sound design were huge too. Tom Hardy was my favorite character, I loved the stuff on the boat. I've seen Girls Trip three times, the best comedy since the first Hangover. Hopefully a sequel is announced.
  10. Really been enjoying Twin Peaks, the last episode had me in tears towards the end. About to start the Defenders. I really enjoyed the first season of DD and I loved Jessica Jones, but DD S2, Iron Fist and Luke Cage left a lot to be desired. I think the MCU Netflix shows are too long and should be 8/10 episodes max.

  12. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 02:06 PM) Good stuff from Longenhagen: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/eric-longen...cts-chat-815-2/ Nick 12:13 What did you think of Turang, De Sedas, and Gorman at the PG game in San Diego? Eric A Longenhagen 12:15 Turang is a plus athlete, future plus glove at short for me even with just average hands. Arm is plus. Not sure what kind of impact he's going to have with the bat. I do think he's very difficult to strike out. He ground out a great AB vs Rocker Sunday night. But there's some length there, he pushes the ball the other way an awful lot, not sure there's enough for him to be 1-1 or anything like that. 12:16 De Sedas: Love the raw power from both sides of the plate, looked fine at short during in and out but didn't see enough of it in games to know if he fits there. That's something that will play out next spring but he's got first round tools. Worst case scenario for that kind of power with infield actions is what happened to Luis Curbelo two drafts ago where, once clubs started really watching him, he struggled to hit and fell. 12:17 Gorman was probably the best performer of the last few weeks. Hit in games, homered and doubled the opposite way in the last week, made some nice defensive plays, throws well. Looks great. Was just about to post that. I've been watching a lot of the All American games and it seems like Kelenic makes a spectacular play in the field every game. My favorite guy for the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 29, 2017 -> 05:27 PM) I just don't think there's any real argument to targeting specific positions, ESPECIALLY at this point. Given the attrition rate of prospectys, and how early we are in this process, there's no way to tell which positions we will need when it's time to be competitive. If we ever do somehow find ourselves with too many of one thing and not enough of another, that's when you trade from surplus. The answer MUST be BPA every time. That's how you build dynasties. Always taking the best player available.
  14. Tim Anderson has been playing pretty good as of late at the plate.
  15. I hope the Sox resign Holland. Dead serious
  16. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 01:46 PM) Me neither. I rather hit a home run at #3 than have an epic fail/disaster at #1. It's never a sure thing at #1 and honestly more hype...but I will say lately I have a ton more confidence with this FO and Hahn calling shots these days than in the past. All I keep envisioning tho...is all the young talent we have right now and a possible rotation of Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito and either Dunning, Hansen or Cease in a couple years. Good lord....plus add whoever gets selected next year...Sox sitting very well indeed. Its never a sure thing with any pick in the draft.
  17. Can't blame the Sox for being overtly cautious on kid that they just spent $52M on
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 05:46 PM) Finally, whoever scouted Justin Turner and Chris Taylor for the Dodgers, they deserve a huge signing bonus to come over to the Sox. I want to say Logan White, who now works for the Padres
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 7, 2017 -> 10:22 AM) I think it would be good for him, not punish him. I think sending him down would be absolutely terrible for his psyche, they want him to get away from baseball and clear his head, they should put him on the DL.
  20. Moncada's best friend wasn't murdered. Let's see how he does when that happens.
  21. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 6, 2017 -> 06:36 PM) Ehhh I wouldn't say that. I've seen people rooting for #1 overall in 2019 already. The Sox already have a pretty good shot at getting the #1 in 2019 without people rooting for it.
