QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 11:06 AM) MLB Trade Rumors @mlbtraderumors 3h3 hours ago #Rangers GM Jon Daniels vows to improve the rotation this winter, says TEX has the prospects to swing a major trade: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/10/daniels-on-rangers-lucroy-offseason-needs-gallo-profar.html …://http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/...o-profar.html …://http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/...o-profar.html … Not for Sale and Quintana

My only real concern with having Benintendi as a centerpiece is that in a small sample size this season, he had a pretty large split disparity. His minor league numbers aren't as pronounced, but that could be an indication of a potential weakness IMO. JBJ's splits are much better though now that I look at them.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 03:52 PM) I can get behind that first deal. JBJ and Moncada alone could fill two holes. Keeps Eaton in right as well. Then you just hope Hansen, Kopech, Rodriguez and Fulmer can fill in the space behind Quintana and Rodon. Adams and Stephens as well

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 03:04 PM) "This may be an offseason defined more by subtle changes rather than fundamental ones. In the rotation, the team retains control over its six primary starters this year – David Price, Rick Porcello, Eduardo Rodriguez, Drew Pomeranz, Steven Wright, and Clay Buchholz (whose $13.5 million option represents almost a no-brainer given its short term and the righthander’s solid performance down the stretch). Price 3.99 ERA 3.60 FIP 3.52 xFIP Porcello 3.15 ERA 3.40 FIP 3.89 xFIP Wright 3.33 ERA 3.77 FIP 4.57 xFIP Rodriguez 4.71 ERA 4.43 FIP 4.72 xFIP Pomeranz 4.59 ERA 4.78 FIP 3.85 xFIP Buchholz 4.78 ERA 5.06 FIP 5.32 xFIP Ya, they are totally all set.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 11, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) In no particular order: CF Jackie Bradley Jr. RF Adam Eaton 2B Yoan Moncada 1B Jose Abreu SS Tim Anderson C Christian Vazquez/Black Swihart LF Melky Cabrera 3B Todd Frazier Those are average, plus or plus plus assets at each position. In this hypothetical, you'd have to figure they'll trade rentals in Frazier/Cabrera after but it scares me that if trading Sale were the first move and we got what we're hoping from the BoSox, all of a sudden our lineup looks really formidable in the immediate future. I just don't want the Sox to cut their rebuild short again but my feeling is they could move Sale for a haul and then just make a handful of small moves. I am not saying dive into a rebuild and trade Q/Abreu/Eaton too, but leave everything on the table. It's amazing, past Boston, I can't really find a package I like. The Dodgers could put one together if they'd include Pederson or Urias. The Rangers had surrendered a lot of their depth in July and Profar/Gallo are losing more shine each and every day. Mazara can't do it himself. Yankees should be a serious competitor, especially given Boston's interest, but the Yankees just have a gang of top 100 prospects but no one player that headlines that could really make you feel comfortable about moving the best LHP in the world not named Kershaw on a bargain of a contract. There's no Moncada, JBJ, Benintendi, Urias, Pederson, etc. type headliner unless they would move Sanchez which is entirely doubtful. Frazier, Judge, Mateo, Torres, Rutherford are all great prospects, but I think I would need the Yanks top 5 prospects with no exception to deal with them. Pirates could get a deal done but that's totally against Huntington's MO to a point it's not even worth considering. Pirates top 20 has plenty of intriguing guys. Couple of remarks to this post: 1.) I am getting the feeling as well that the Sox are going to trade Sale, plug a few holes, and try to contend again as well. I'm fine with this route personally. Sale has been a great pitcher with the Sox, but if trading him allows you to plug numerous holes and breath some life into the farm system, it's a no brainer. Realistically, you could contend next year with a rotation of Quintana-Gonzalez-Rodon-Fulmer-Shields if Rodon and Fulmer take the necessary next steps. 2.) The only two teams other than the Red Sox that have the type of depth to make a play for Sale would be the Pirates and the Astros. The Pirates, as you said, would probably never make a deal with that because it goes against their entire philosophy. I think theyd be more be interested in trading McCutchen for a bunch of prospects and plugging Meadows in. The Astros, in my opinion, are the real dark horse for Sale. They have young MLB talent, they have some exciting pieces in their farm system, and they are in the position that a big move could instantly put them in WS contention. I think he ultimately ends up in Boston or Houston. I'd love to move him out of the AL, but I just don't see who in the NL could make a good enough offer for him. I dont know if the Dodgers could even offer an interesting enough package. Urias, Bellinger, and Verdugo are a good start but I would need more. 3.) Im not sure where all the JBJ backlash is coming from either. Plus defender in CF which, when paired with Eaton in RF, would be a MASSIVE upgrade to our OF D. He's put up an OPS of .835 and .832 in back to back seasons now. For a CFer with his type of defense, that is a 4-5 win player annually. He would be a really nice piece to have and one I'd welcome into this organization. With him though, I would need good secondary pieces. I think I'd still prefer Benintendi because of the extra control, but I think Devers and Kopech need to be part of the additional pieces to even begin discussions with either of them.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Oct 10, 2016 -> 07:57 AM) Boston's bullpen had numerous issues during the 2nd half. But their starting pitching was outstanding during the same stretch. Kimbrel has had control issues down the stretch. Was talking about Houston FWIW
-
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Oct 9, 2016 -> 09:58 PM) Houston is also a good spot for them. They are the team to watch IMO. Unless Boston decides to nut up. They already have many studs in place, bullpen is pretty nasty, just need that ace.

Same old story, same old song and dance

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 01:57 PM) Mazara, Gallo, Profar, Speas, Mendez are all intriguing Im starting to think that Gallo and Profar arent nearly as interesting as they once were
-
It's unfortunate that the Rangers don't really have that many interesting prospects anymore, because they definitely look like they could use some pitching help.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 09:56 AM) Not really. They had the same fWAR but Avila did so with less than 2/3 the PAs that Flowers had. Avila was clearly the superior player when healthy this year. Very true. He amassed the same fWAR in ~100 less ABs.
-
QUOTE (gosoxgo2005 @ Oct 7, 2016 -> 08:35 AM) It makes me LOL that people wish we kept Flowers... I know he had a good year but we all despised him on the Sox Him and Avila were essentially the same player by fWAR. Avila was better defensively and Flowers was better offensively. He was highly replaceable. Sox fans really need to let him go already.

I called this rebuild. I just want to be on record saying I called it.

QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 12:06 PM) Encarnacion is likely going to Boston. Poorly kept secret Where do the Red Sox put Hanley, Shaw, and Sandoval?
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Oct 4, 2016 -> 11:29 AM) I love the effort. I don't think they'd give up the 12th pick in the draft to sign Encarnacion though. I just don't see them giving up a pick and I hope they don't. Ya, I don't see them being the team to outbid everyone for his services, especially with losing the 12th pick. He would just be the type of hitter I would consider giving up the pick for. Instantly helps in the areas the Sox need boosts in (OBP, ISO, BB%, etc.) and probably gives them a middle of the league offense. The only validation I could see for getting the pick is if it doesn't end up working out, you can probably flip some guys to get comparable value to losing the pick during the season. I really doubt they spend that type of money, especially on a DH, but if they spent on anybody this offseason, I'd want it to be Encarnacion.
-
I guess one of my biggest questions for planning for the future is how they plan to implement Collins. Realistically, I'm pretty confident he will be on the major league team no later than 2018, so will he be taking over at C or DH? Both are areas of weakness, so replacements are needed, but it's much easier to have a plan on attack for this offseason if you can envision where the team plans to use him. The Sox can go 1 of 3 ways: Go For It -See if Shields bounces back in spring training next year, if not, DFA him. No competitive team can trot him out there every 5th day and hope to play in October. -Sign Jason Castro to a 2 yr contract. Excellent defensive metrics again this season, great framing statistics, poor to mediocre offense which could be offset by the addition of a big bat. -Sign one of Encarnacion or Cespedes. You need another big bat in the middle, Encarnacion is the better bat, but he's older and doesnt provide any defensive value. Plus, if the Sox see Collins as DH, it would make more sense to go Cespedes and move Melky to DH, so you can slide Collins in to replace him after he leaves. For the sake of this exercise, I will say they sign Cespedes. -I think Carlos Gomez gets more offers than expected, so I think it would be beneficial to look at a guy like Rasmus for CF. The offensive numbers weren't really there this season, but he is a plus defender in the OF and with Eaton and Cespedes maning the other 2 positions, the OF defense would be massively upgraded. If he doesn't work out, you can always try with Tilson while Engel gets more seasoning in AAA. -Start Burdi in AAA and bring him up in June or July to provide a shot in the arm to the pen SS Anderson RF Eaton 1B Abreu LF Cespedes DH Cabrera 3B Frazier CF Rasmus C Castro 2B Lawrie/Saladino BE Lawrie/Saladino BE Narvaez BE Tilson BE Davidson? SP Sale SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Gonzalez SP Fulmer/Shields CL Robertson SU Jones SU Petricka RP Jennings RP Putnam RP Fulmer/Shields RP Ynoa? RP ? Buy and Sell This is the route I ultimately think the franchise decides to go. I think Chris Sale's days with the White Sox are numbered and I think they will ultimately do pretty well in a trade for him. I think the team tries to capitalize off that one trade and compete while also planning for the future. -Trade Chris Sale to the Red Sox for Andrew Benintendi, Rafael Devers, Michael Kopech, Eduardo Rodriguez, and Blake Swihart. In this trade, the Sox get someone they covet for some reason in Swihart, they get a stud CF, the eventual replacement for Frazier, a young power arm, and a rotation piece for the present. Fills needs but also builds for the future. -Sign Edwin Encarnacion to offset the loss in pitching. I'd personally go somewhere around 4 yr, $92 million. -Sign Boone Logan as your second lefty in the pen. -Bring up Burdi and really make the bullpen a strength. Shorten the game for the starters and make the bullpen lock down. RF Eaton SS Benintendi 1B Abreu DH Encarnacion LF Cabera 3B Frazier C Swihart 2B Lawrie/Saladino SS Anderson BE Lawrie/Saladino BE Narvaez BE Tilson BE Davidson? SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Gonzalez SP Rodriguez SP Fulmer/Shields CL Robertson SU Jones SU Burdi RP Jennings RP Logan RP Putnam RP Petricka Rebuild This is the hardest to predict. If they start a massive rebuild, I look for Quintana to go to the Dodgers and Sale to go to the Red Sox. I think Frazier, Melky, and Robertson go at the deadline. Lawrie probably goes for a flier piece in the offseason.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 03:41 PM) Out of all of those teams, I have no doubt the Yankees would let us pick who we want out of their system to get Sale. I wholeheartedly agree with you. I think they like some of the young core theyve put together, but I think they are really eyeing that 2018 FA class for when they fully make their move. Is a deal revolving around Frazier and Torres enough for Sale though?
-
A big problem with rebuilding this offseason is that a lot of the best prospects in the game right now are in rebuilding organizations. You can sit there and hope the Red Sox will trade a package of Benintendi, Moncada, Devers, etc., but they don't need to trade for pitching. The Dodgers don't really need to either honestly. The good teams have insulated themselves so they don't have to overpay. I dont see a ton of guys out there right now that are going to come up and be no doubt offensive studs. Would you trade a guy like Q to the Pirates for a deal centered around Austin Meadows maybe? Do you really foresee the Yankees trading a bunch of the guys they just acquired for an ace? This looks like a really bad situation the Sox are in. Hope Jerry is ready to break open that piggy bank.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Take it for what it's worth, but Matt Abbatacola on the Score says he has sources inside that say the preference is to move Sale over Quintana. If a team were to overpay obviously. Again, take it for what it's worth. I see this being the case too and it makes the most sense. I think they try to spin him to Boston for a package like Moncada, Benintendi, Swihart, and something in hope of plugging a couple holes while staying competitive.

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) Hahn says that they absolutely under achieved this year. They dont think there is a problem with this team. I mean, there were multiple clubhouse incidents, players openly questioning the teams desire, etc. If they dont think their is a problem, maybe they should get some outside consultation on how they actually look.
-
I dont understand how anyone can keep their job after the Shields misstep. I really hope some people are fired in the pro scouting department today.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 08:25 AM) I used to be a huge pro-Hahn guy, but the Rollins/Latos/Navarro signings as starters on a "contender" were pretty horrible. Part of me thinks/hopes that KW was behind those moves. Thing is, at this point, it doesnt really matter anymore who was "behind" each move. This front office wants to be viewed as a unified front that is on the same page all the time when it's very clear they aren't. So they arent afforded the luxury of saying all the bad moves are Kenny's ideas and all the good ones are Rick's.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Oct 3, 2016 -> 08:18 AM) Yeah doesn't really make any sense. They could have just had a press conference today announcing that Renteria is taking over and Robin and the club decided to part ways as opposed to the whole "sure, we'll take Robin back if he wants to come back" game. Seriously, how does one organization defy logic so often?
-
The Sox have said once again that there was a depth/talent issue in the wake of Robin's departure, why do these two continue to get a free pass? Don't tell me it's because of loyalty, that's just a lazy explanation. They had a plan and it failed miserably (as most predicted it would), when does Jerry wake the f*** up and realize he needs to cut his losses on these 2?
