  1. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Dec 17, 2016 -> 10:22 PM) Just watched the Keith Law video from the Winter Meetings where he talked about the Sale deal and he said Moncada is "one of the best 10 or 15 prospects in baseball". His midseason rankings had Benny and Devers both in the top 10, so unless those guys saw their rankings fall (no way Benny did, Devers hit .313 after his rankings), Moncada will be behind both of those guys once he does his offseason rankings. Moncada put up better numbers than Benintendi did last season in the minors and is a year younger. His splits against LHP in the majors was atrocious too, he has plenty of questions. Devers is younger than both players, but didn't put up numbers anywhere close to Moncada or Benintendi. It's ok to be excited about our prospects. Moncada is very good at baseball and Im willing to bet Giolito looks pretty damn good under the White Sox tutelage next season.
  2. I could see the benefit in starting Collins in A+. That is likely where Kopech starts and having those two develop a rapport now would probably behoove the Sox. They will both destroy at WS and move up to Birmingham around June is my guess. As for Moncada, I dont know if you're doing him any favors starting him at AA. Wasnt a huge sample size, but he did have a .910 OPS there last season. If you start him there, I hope they dont plan on keeping him there for long. I would rather him work on his approach with pitchers that are going to throw more junk in AAA.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 03:02 PM) I would like them to try to buy low on Plawecki. He may be odd-man out with d'Arnaud and Rivera behind the plate for the Mets. Or sign Jeff Mathis. I'm just looking at defensive first types to pair with Narvaez behind the plate. Someone who could also work with Collins in Spring Training (if Collins is in big league camp which I kind of doubt). Mathis signed last week
  4. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) Service time is service time. It doesn't matter if it's a September call up or not. A player hits free agency after 6 full seasons of service time. 1 full season is considered 172 days of service time. The season is roughly 183 days but a player is only allowed to accrue 172 service days per season. Moncada, Lopez and Giolito clocks have all essentially started but you don't accrue service time if you are in the minors. Current service time- Moncada - 31 days Giolito - 39 days Lopez - 44 days Baseball reference lists all 3 as being free agency eligible after 2022 but that is going on the assumption that since they have already been in the Majors that they will be in the Majors at the start of the year. For the Sox to change that free agency date until after the 2023 season they would need to wait until it was late enough in the year that none of them have accrued a total of 172 service days before the end of this season. Date on which they can be called up to give the Sox a "7th year" and move the free agency date until after 2023- Moncada - May 14 Giolito - May 22 Lopez - May 27 I think all 3 will be called up shortly after those dates hit so long as they are playing well and the Sox feel they are ready. No point in letting them stay down in the minors dominating when they could get valuable Major League experience. Thank you very much man, this is exactly what I was looking for!
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) None of them will come up until around June. Their first year won't be until the 2017-2018 season. They will eligible for FA after 2022-2023 season. Think of it as part of this season and then 6 more years after. Ah ok, I wasn't sure if their service time from last year effectively started each of their clocks. Thank you.
  6. Apologize in advance for the dumb question, but I was hoping to gain some clarity on the service times of Giolito, Lopez, and Fulmer. Baseball reference has all 3 hitting free agency in 2023, is this accounting for them likely spending most of 2017 in the minors or would they gain extra control if they stayed down there until, say, September? I know Moncada's clock hasn't started yet since he was a September call up, but for these other guys, it would almost make more sense to leave them in the minors all season if it means more control, no?
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 11:56 AM) The #WhiteSox still want to trade Jose Quintana, and figured #Astros were perfect match, but won't move him until someone meets their price. https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/809094035944144896 This comes off a little desperate in my opinion. I read that as the White Sox are focused on getting a deal done with the Astros and there isnt much competition. Wouldn't it just be better to say interest is increasing now that the dust has settled from winter meetings or some s***.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 12:17 PM) The payroll is going to be ridiculously low next year, so it's not that big of a deal right now. But like GreenSox said, Hahn can't add these expensive, declining veterans for millions when the team is competitive again. They could've signed a star like Cespedes last year with all the money they blew on scrubs. Dude, $8M is nothing. If you think that is expensive on the FA market, the Sox stand no chance of turning this thing around.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 09:26 AM) MLB.com Top 50 Draft Prospects: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=draft Guys I'm hoping might/can fall: Bukaukas Houck McKay Guys they realistically will have available at 11: Smith Beck Adell Pavin Smith interests me quite a bit. A plus college hitter with advanced defense at first would be really nice to pair with good defense around the rest of the infield.
  10. Depending on who they trade off, they could easily be a 50-60 win team next season, and I am more than ok with that. I will actually go out to the stadium and have fun again because I know the team has a direction and a purpose. People think that the Sox will need to suck for a few years to accumulate the talent necessary to really turn this around and I honestly disagree. 2017 will be awful, but in 2018, this team will be quite competitive once again. They will probably need some more development from bats to be a playoff team at that point, but I think between the pitching and potential good defense, they will be pretty solid. 2019 I think they definitely have the makings of a playoff team. Next couple of years are going to be pretty exciting, and while I wont actively root for them to ever lose, I am completely ok with it.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 13, 2016 -> 09:12 AM) See 2013 and 2014. Also hit the DL in 2012. http://thebaseballcube.com/players/profile...&Page=Tranx If you think Eaton's going to be one of the most durable players (especially playing CF instead of RF), I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell to anyone interested. Predicting his style of play will likely lead to an injury at some point in the near future isn't exactly earth-shattering analysis. It's one of the many reasons Hahn sold him before the season started. Lol, give me a break. 0 days on the DL the last 2 seasons. They had him scale back his style of play after his first season in Chicago and he hasn't been hurt since. Anyways, no one said he's "one of the most durable players", you are the one that said his style of play is "reckless". Anybody that has paid attention over the last couple years realizes that he's played more in control and, as a result, hasn't been much of an injury risk. You also assert that his "homer happy" approach has taken away his appeal as an OBP player which is irrefutably wrong. He has added the power component to his game at no expense to his OBP or avg. His wOBA has stayed roughly the same over the last 3 years (marginally increased actually), he's increased his BB%, cut down his K%, increased his ISO, and all around become a better player. Your assertions are just dumb.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) Just that the odds of Eaton's body holding up until 2019-2021 are 50/50 at best. His borderline reckless type of game just leaves too many possibilities for injuries. We saw it already with Rowand and how quickly he broke down in his 30's. Shane Victorino, another example, although not as close as Aaron. He's a lot more multi-dimensional than Pods as well, because of his arm and RF defense...once Pods lost his stolen base aggressiveness, he lost 50% of his value. And Eaton's had a lot more pop to his game than most expected, simply looking at him physically. That said, when he got "homer happy," it took him away from his infield hit/BB OBP mode, which arguably was even more valuable to disrupting the opposition. Wtf are you even talking about? He played the most games of his career last season and had an OBP that was .001 away from last years OBP.
  13. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 02:11 PM) Trying to temper expectation on Robertson trade so I'm pleasantly surprised. Severino sounds like one of those guys that Soxtalk gets obsessed with though and doesn't work out, but then 5 years later that guy is playing in Korea (unless we get him, then he'll be great). At the very worst, I think Severino is a legit backup defensive catcher along the lines of Christian Vasquez. Very encouraging reports on his defense, if his bat pans out, even better. I think we would all be realyl happy to have a catcher like that, especially if Collins breaks as a catcher.
  14. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) I want to deal Robertson now. Then you let Jones close and dominate and deal him at midseason. This.
  15. Potential targets: Washington Pedro Severino Koda Glover Juan Soto Miami I'm good thanks
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 12, 2016 -> 11:09 AM) I think the Astros would never agree to that. It's between Fisher is v. good but doubt we can get both and I prefer Tucker. Reed/Tucker/Martes is really the "makes sense" scenario here. My dream scenario is the Rodgers/Tapia/Pint deal. Fisher 32% K rate in the minors last season gives me a ton of pause when considering his potential. He has pop and gets on base, but there is potential there to be eaten alive by major league pitchers.
  17. Great interview Brian! Your Hostetler interviews continue to be excellent. This is a probably a strange question, but when these guys are breaking down these pitchers analytically, are they looking at spin rates? I've seen some criticism of Giolito and Lopez having below average spin rates and while I dont necessarily think that is entirely a representative stat, it's definitely a little concerning. They both look like they get nice depth on their offspeed stuff, so it's probably not as much of a concern there, but in the video I was watching of both, Giolito's 4 seam looks incredibly straight while Lopez gets a little ride.
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 11, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) I wonder if people here would prefer Dahl in a deal or Rodgers. I actually like Dahl especially with the lack of legit OF prospects in oir system. Not sure if Colorado would deal him though. Dahl personally, could give the team an even quicker turn around
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 01:37 PM) No, but it was a factor, for sure. Do you think we see more this week?
  20. QUOTE (Ro Da Don @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) I mean from Houston's standpoint - to get a pitcher like Q for that ask. Pull the trigger all day if you're Luhnow with how consistent Q is. As another poster said, I bet the hangup was the inclusion of Musgrove off their MLB roster. Q, Keuchel, McHugh, McCullers, Fiers/Musgrove If they are hung up on moving the guy slotted in at 5, change it to Reed and Stubbs and call it a day. Musgrove is a fine pitcher, but not a deal breaker IMO.
  21. The lack of catching prospects in all these packages makes me slightly concerned they aren't placing a ton of value on the position
  22. I know the rebuild is a bittersweet moment for the fans of this franchise, but I applaud the foresight of the front office to get this done now. The 3 main reasons for this being: 1.) Cleveland firmly owns this division right now, but outside them, the Central is kind of a dumpster fire. The Tigers are old, expensive, and their farm system is empty. They are at the very end of their window and have some brutal ends of contracts over the next 5 years. Minnesota, while having a relatively stacked farm system over the last 5 or so years, hasnt really seen a lot of their homegrown talent pan out and is sorely lacking marquee talent. The Royals cupboard is pretty bare and are still talking like they want to give it one last try with this core. Be our guest. The Sox will be a punching bag for the division next season, and maybe again in 2016, but they are looking like they will have a window when this core reaches the majors that could last awhile. 2.) The CBA and draft pick compensation. For a team like the Sox, it has been especially painful to pursue top end FAs because, not only are they incredibly expensive, but the draft pick compensation absolutely ruins any chance at sustaining success through homegrown talent. With the way the new CBA is structured and the improvements made in the scouting/drafting department, I think the Sox are in a pretty good position to really start developing players in their system that can supplement a good core moving forward. 3.) The payroll flexibility we will have with this core and the upcoming free agent classes. As it stands, the Sox currently have $35M on the books for 2018 and $2.25 for 2019. Jerry has never been one to hand out big contracts, but they are positioned so well to make a play at a Machado or Harper or Donaldson during that 2018-2019 offseason. Ideally they wouldnt need to spend mega dollars on those guys, they would just need to add guys that compliment the core. To have that type of flexibility is insane though. Seeing Sale and Eaton go really sucks and the guys they got for them could end up busting, but the future is incredibly bright right now for the White Sox. For the first time in as long as I can remember, I am impressed at the vision and direction of this front office.
  23. I'm actually considering buying a partial season or full season ticket to show my support for the franchise. Next year will be ugly, but it'll be worth the pain.
