  1. Joakim Soria's 2017 #'s: 3.70 ERA, 2.23 FIP, 3.08 xFIP, 10.29 K/9, 3.21 BB/9, 0.16 HR/9, 54.8 GB%, 1.7 fWAR Please for the love of god tell me how he had a bad season last year? 10th overall RP in FIP, 15th in xFIP, 1st in HR/9, 23rd in WAR. They got him for NOTHING.
  2. Greg and caufield sure care a lot about the Royals and their fanbase. Soria had great numbers last year, nothing to dislike about this trade. Sox got two solid bullpen pieces for a AAAA player.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 08:27 AM) No one, anywhere, is higher on any of Giolito/Robert/Hansen than any of Moncada/Kopech/Devers. They are not in the same tier and there's no plausible way to argue otherwise. Not saying they are, your claim that they are back end top 100 prospects is blatantly false though
  4. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) Moncada/Kopech/Devers are all top ten overall prospects. Giolito/Robert/Hansen are like back-end top 100 guys. Robert is a top 50 in every publication, Giolito was top 50 in every preseason publication since 2014, and Hansen will be top 50 by midseason next year
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 01:50 PM) Who the f*** is Dan Clark and what the f*** does he know? But seriously, this Machado is both exciting & terrifying. I just wish a White Sox mouthpiece like Merkin would pop in with a “Kopech & Giolito not included in any offer”. f***...f***...f***... WSD already said he wasnt
  6. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Free Agents -Sign Hector Rondon to a 1 year, $5M deal w/ incentives **Sox reunite him with his former manager & offer first crack at the closer’s job (incentives based on games saved) Trades -Sox trade IF Carlos Sanchez to the Brewers for 3B Lucas Erceg & 2B Isan Diaz **Milwaukee fills their 2B hole with a cost-controlled asset, Sox buy low on two minor league infielders with upside Rule 5 -Sox select Kohl Stewart in 1st round **Great athlete with sinking stuff (huge plus at The Rate) who just might be able to stay healthy in a bullpen role I see no way the Brewers would agree to that deal, but I would be so for it if it happened
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) I would go out on a limb and say that the biggest free agent contract the White Sox hand out this off season has already been signed. Yup
  8. 1.) Sox sign Hector Rondon to a 2 yr, $11 MM deal with a mutual option for a third year 2.) Sox sign Tommy Hunter to a 2 yr, $9 MM deal 3.) Sox draft Nestor Cortes in the Rule 5 draft
  9. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 03:02 PM) I hope your right but I am doubtful. Next year is a big year for him. He was a career .260--ish hitter in the minors with limited power. Certainly he has a chance to get PA with the limited roster. He looks to me to be a utility player/4th outfielder who can play a few spots and will be a .250 hitter. But he is still 25 so maybe he has a solid spring and wins starting position. FWIW, even with some regression factored in, his steamer projection for next season is pretty solid. They currently have him in line for .248/.328/.434 with 19 HR, .326 wOBA, and a 103+ wRC. It's not star production, but in a rebuild, I am happy to let him show the club if he is part of the core moving forward.
  10. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 08:14 AM) Madrigal seems to be underrated due to his size, but the guy can hit. He has absolutely no power though, and if he's going to be 2B only, I need some power out of him
  11. Top 4 right now: Ethan Hankins Nander De Sedas Nolan Gorman Brice Turang I haven't watched much of Liberatore yet, but from the little I watched yesterday, he looks like a pretty nice prospect as well. He might bump someone off this list for me.
  12. I'd offer Hector Rondon a chance to close here with a good spring to entice him
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 28, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Jose Abreu Leury Garcia Avisail Garcia Al Albuquerque Danny Farquhar Jake Petricka Zach Putnam Carlos Rodon Yolmer Sanchez If it were me I'd say "he gone" to Albuquerque, Farquhar, Petricka, Putnam and maybe Sanchez.
  14. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) And even if he has I'd have to think twice about it...for a corner outfielder he doesn't have a lot of power and his defense and base running is comical as well as his understanding of simple fundamentals. He actually graded out as an above average base runner last season, but you know, narrative.
  15. Loooooooove this move. This dude had electric stuff in the Futures Game, I had no clue who he was prior to that and came away impressed. This is exactly the type of move that Rick should be making. Even if you improve his control just a bit, he is instantly a high leverage reliever at the major league level. I can think of no better coaching staff to try and harness his abilities. In a couple years, we will look back fondly on this trade.
  16. James Fegan 2h Daniel Palka is a 26yo lefty 1B/DH with plus raw power. Crushed AA as a 24yo. .274/.329/.431 in AAA last year but did reduce K rate
  17. @WhiteSox add intriguing LH bat in 1B/OF Daniel Palka, claimed on waivers from @Twins. 34 HRs in AA/AAA in '16; broken finger wrecked '17.
  18. I find it very unlikely Adolfo or Clarkin are taken in the Rule 5
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) The most conservative outlook was the beginning of June. Not sure where August is coming from. Yup, I'm conservatively expecting mid May, early June. Anything earlier is bonus. Another idea for this offseason: -Work out a trade with the Dodgers where you are taking on the rest of AGon's contract and getting Yusniel Diaz or DJ Peters
  20. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 08:06 PM) You just don't know until he pitches next August. We have no idea what kind of stuff he'll have. He'll be back way before August
  21. QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 11:31 AM) I expect this to be the most boring offseason since 2012-2013 when basically the only move we did was sign Keppinger. -I'd love to sell high on Avi but kind of doubt the market values him. -I would want the Sox to sign a good pitcher with their value down that they could possibly dish off. I don't think they will do this. I'd think they do some scrap heap type guy and run with the youngins but someone is going to get hurt and with our payroll so low we could afford to gamble on a move that is a better version of the Derek Holland move from last year. Someone like Cobb/Buchholz/Chatwood/Pineda. -What I think the Sox will do and should do is spend big on the bullpen. I think they should put a lot of money into the bullpen. Even if it takes a 3 year deal for a good arm. Past that, let's be active on international free agents for the lineup. This is the perfect year to take a relative risk on a type of move that offers the potential for big surplus value. Any names jump out to you as good fits? Mike Minor could be an interesting target if he's really healthy, he was fantastic this year.
