QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 10:47 AM) He has always said everyone is available if the price is right, but he specifically questioned whether the timing with Abreu and Avi and their contracts fit the White Sox schedule. In the meeting I was at he talked about diminished returns in 1B/DH types Abreu's age and specifically mentioned that leadership is big, but it doesn't trump production. He made it seem an extension would have to be really team friendly. With Avi, he questioned whether selling him off now wasn't the most prudent. He either stays a really good player which would make him expensive and a risk to sign elsewhere, or he goes back to being what he was and it would be an opportunity lost. The thing is, trading these guys doesn't mean you can't bring them back when they become free agents if you want. You just miss their production when you really aren't playing to win. And it opens up opportunities for younger players. That's a pretty interesting takeaway, I've long thought they want him to be a White Sox lifer. That is quite the contrary.

My dream offseason would look something like: -Sign Jake McGee to a 3 yr, $20 million contract -Sign Welington Castillo to a 2 yr/$18 million contract -Sign Wily Peralta to a 1 yr, $5 million contract -Sign Drew Storen to a 1 yr, $3 million contract C Castillo 1B Abreu 2B Moncada SS Anderson 3B Sanchez LF Delmonico CF L. Garcia RF Avi DH Gillaspie BE Cordell BE Peter BE Narvaez BE Tilson? SP Shields SP Giolito SP Lopez SP Fulmer SP Peralta/Rodon RP McGee RP Storen RP Infante RP Minaya RP Farquhar RP Bummer RP Kubat Sox only dire need at this stage of the rebuild is to get bullpen help. I think Storen could be a solid low cost option. With McGee, they have no real dominating LH RP in their system, so I think he'd be a nice option to shut down games until Burdi is back. With signing Castillo, Sox will get another offensive threat that I dont think will make too much money this offseason. Put up 2.7 fWAR this year in a sneaky good season. Pitch framing sucks, but a tandem of him and Narvaez should be good for ~3-4 wins. I think Peralta would be a smart low risk signing because he gives you insurance for Rodon and can be transitioned to the bullpen. I think you ultimately bring up Kopech and Eloy by June and let it rip second half. This team will be a lot better than people think this season, a couple of smart offseason signings could make the second half really interesting.

I'm borderline shocked people want to dump Ricky after one season. He did nothing this season that deserves a quick exit and the players quite clearly enjoy playing for him. Dumping him just because would be incredibly unprofessional.

I decided to start a pet project tracking the rebuild of the White Sox. Over the next couple years, I plan on monitoring the players moved and how they perform in comparison to their contracts. I think it'll be interesting to look back and see what trades Rick got the most value and where he got burned. So far for 2017, the Sox gave up quite a bit of surplus value (largely because of Sale and Quintana though). Anyways, if anyone has any other suggestions for things I should include, I am all ears. Here is the link in case anyone wants to follow along: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ccv..._V0o/edit#gid=0

A couple bullpen names I would like to see the Sox in on: Steve Cishek Brandon Morrow Juan Nicasio Bryan Shaw Jake McGee
-
I'd prefer Jake McGee of the Rockies relievers

Was thinking about next years lineup and looking at some defensive numbers for Sox players. Carlos Sanchez is an elite defensive 3B. Of 3B with 350 innings played (Carlos only played 393 innings there this year), Carlos ranks as follows: UZR - 13th UZR/150 - 1st RZR - 1st DRS - 6th He still needs to increase improve his offensive profile to jump up into the next tier, but if he can play that type of defensive at 3B over the course of a 162 game season and stay around 95 wRC+, that should equate to a 3-4 win player. It should definitely be his job to lose next season and probably until Burger is ready or a FA stud is signed. Really good development for the rebuild though.

I 100% think the Sox are going HS pick at #4. The only college player I think they'd consider is Singer and I think he doesnt get past Philly.

Very encouraged by what I saw this season. Positives: -Farm system took steps forward, a lot of great performances across the board -Yoan turned in a solid rookie season. 104 wRC+, .327 wOBA, 6 DRS, .181 ISO. I think he only goes up from here. -Avi has played himself into either being a part of the future or a potential nice trade chip to further load up the system -Jose Abreu had his best season since his rookie year -Omar Narvaez, while awful at pitch framing, proved he can be a part of this moving forward in atleast a backup role. He actually reminds me of Alex Avila with less power. -Giolito impressed me quite a bit this season. To start the season the way he did and finish the way he did says a lot to me about his maturity and his mental toughness. Even if he doesn't reach his lofty ceiling, I think his floor is a really serviceable #3 for a championship team. -Lopez showed glimpses of some really gross stuff. The lack of strikeouts was a little bit concerning, but I think he was pretty gased by the end of the season. The fact that he was throwing 97-98 in his last start though makes me confident in his ability to start moving forward though. -Nicky Delmonico is a find. He is the type of player/find/hidden gem that accelerates the timeline of a rebuild. Im not sure he can be this good moving forward, but it's nice to have a little insurance at DH/LF. He is a solid LH bat and a welcome surprise this season. -Yolmer finished w/ a 2.1 fWAR season. His offensive profile is still nothing to write home about, but Im confident you can plug him in at 3B next season and he can be a place holder until Burger is ready or they go out and get someone like Machado, Donaldson, Arenado, etc. Negatives: -Tim had a tough season. It's great he came on in the second half, but his defense took a massive step back. I hope he's able to flush this season and come out the other side a better player. I want him to succeed here. -Fernando Tatis looks like an absolute beast. -Rodon can't seem to stay healthy. -Renteria likes bunting far too much.
-
Pool of players I have my eye on at 4: -Hankins (unlikely he will be there) -De Sedas -Kelenic -Gorman -Rocker (Already at 260 lbs as an 18 yo, very risky profile)

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 03:05 PM) This year he was basically Matt Davidson who also took walks. I want to see some more of the hit tool. About a 100 pt disparity in OBP, but sure

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 28, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) The short end of the prognosis puts him right in for opening day. The far end is more like the beginning of June. By the time he gets some innings in the minors to get ready, it could be something like July 4th before we see Rodon again. I could be interpreting incorrectly, but I think rehab would be included in that time. Worst case scenario, he's out until June.
-
The Sox should extend him this offseason honestly. I would buy out his last 2 years of arbitration and offer him $70 MM over the next 4 years. It takes you up through his age 34 season and if his defense slips, you can move Burger, Gillaspie, Sheets, etc. there and Abreu to DH. Sox have always prioritized production from 1B, Abreu should not and will be no different.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Sep 26, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) New Perfect Game 2018 Draft Top 150 Ranking Newly updated top 150 ranking needs a subscription, so if anyone has that and wants to share that would be awesome. The top 10 that they do show is interesting though. 1 Ethan Hankins RHP Forsyth Central (GA) 2 Jarred Kelenic OF Waukesha West (WI) 3 Ryan Rolison LHP Mississippi 4 Casey Mize RHP Auburn 5 Kumar Rocker RHP North Oconee (GA) 6 Jackson Kowar RHP Florida 7 Nick Madrigal 2B Oregon State 8 Brice Turang SS Santiago (CA) 9 Shane McClanahan LHP South Florida 10 Nander De Sedas SS Montverde Academy (FL) I think the big things that stick out to me are that Singer is not even in the top 10, Rolison is #3, and Turang all the way down at #8. It does make me feel better about how much I like Kelenic, but gets me scared that he won't be there when we pick. Hankins at #1 puts the question out there again if a HS RHP will ever go #1. No way Kowar is drafted over Singer or in the top 10. Not only has he had arm trouble, but his numbers last year were pretty awful.

The Sox are dropping in draft position because players like Moncada, Giolito, and Lopez are playing well. That's not a bad development. I can find players I want the Sox to draft littering the top 10 picks, they will be just fine wherever they draft. Only thing that sucks about this drop is they are losing pool money.

Are we allowed to get nervous about Moncada at this point?
Dunt replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Regarding Giolito's curve, did anyone notice he introduced a new iteration of it yesterday? In his previous 5 starts, I remember it being almost strictly 12-6. Yesterday, he was throwing more of a slurvy curve, especially through the first few innings. He did mix in the 12-6 as well, but the new one seemed to have more lateral movement. -

Dunt replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Since Aug. 1, Yoan Moncada has hit .283/.381/.467/.848 with a .367 wOBA, 131 wRC+, and a .183 ISO -
I think the rotation plays out as: Rodon Shields Giolito Lopez Fulmer Bullpen will look something like: Jake McGee (3 year deal) Jones Infante Minaya Bummer Danish Goldberg Kopech will be up by May and will move either Shields or Fulmer to the bullpen.

QUOTE (Soha @ Sep 18, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) We did need that bigtime. But the Sox going 6-7 is a coin flip. They just won 6 of 8 before yesterday. The only tough games left are the 3 with the Astros. After that they have 7 games against blah teams at home (Royals and Angels), then 3 to finish the season against a Tribe team that will be setting itself up for the playoffs. But yeah, it can happen. I'm going to be happy when this is over. I'm tired of stressing out over the pick I think the Astros and Indians will be battling for home field through the last series of the season. Both of those teams should pummel the Sox. I bet they lose 5 of those 6. Even if the Sox take 2 in KC/LA, you're looking at 5-8 which pretty much means the Tigers have to go 2-11.
-
Remaining schedules: Sox 3 @ Astros, 3 vs. Royals, 3 vs. Angels, 3 @ Indians Phillies 4 vs. Dodgers, 3 @ Braves, 3 vs. Nationals, 3 vs. Mets Giants 2 vs. Rockies, 3 @ Dodgers, 3 @ DBacks, 3 vs. Padres Tigers 3 vs. A's, 3 vs. Twins, 3 @ Royals, 3 @ Twins Still an outside chance of #2 pick, I think they could potentially jump the Phillies, but it's looking like 3 will be the pick.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 09:41 PM) Impressed with Lopez tonight. Bounced back very well and maintained his composure. I wonder if he was tipping his change early on because it sure looked like hitters were looking for it. Sat behind home plate tonight and thought it looked like he slowed down his arm action when he was throwing his change. May have just been me, but I've never noticed it on tv before, so I thought it may have been easy to pick up. Thought he looked great tonight, really settled in after the first. If he can start doing a better job inducing ground balls, he's going to be a monster.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 05:08 PM) I don't think my opinion is any more valid than yours. It could go either way. That being said, given that he's a bat, and more time is needed for them typically, I think it'll take a bit longer. Jimenez will start next year in Birmingham with 20ish games of experience. If comes out hot, he can be in AAA by the end of May. I'd imagine if he hits in Charlotte from the go then he can move right on up. A.) Sox aren't going to compete next year in all likelihood. B.) Jimenez would have to jump two levels in ~3 months to get to get to the MLB as is. C.) If they're going to suck and have a bad history of rushing players, why not let him beat up the minors for a little bit longer than fans would like if it saves some $$ later on when you need it. All valid points. He's one of those of those bats that I think could make the jump from AA and not miss much of a beat. I dont see any downside to him spending some time in Charlotte, dude is going to hit though. His 2017 steamer projection right now is .265/.308/.436 haha.
