QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 3, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) If Beltran DHs, Gurriel likely plays first leaving Bregman 3B. Where are you sticking Gattis/McCann on the day they don't catch? Just sitting them?
-
I would rather just give Liriano and Coats the corners next year if this is a full rebuild

Avi tendered for $3M

Good defender, solid framer, offensively terrible the last two years. Good buy low option, been wanting the Sox to go after him for a few years now.

Didn't realize Olney mentioned the Nationals are discussing Eaton as well

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 03:28 PM) If there is already talk about Robles being included in a deal for McCutchen, why wouldn't the price for Eaton be significantly higher? Yup. Younger, 3 more years of control, elite defense, only $10.8 million more on that entire deal. Eaton would easily fetch that package and probably more.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 2, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Agreed. I really, really hope they are entertaining trading Jones. If I had it my way (w/ only assuming on the potential returns obviously) I'd trade Sale, Frazier, Jones, Jennings and Melky. I think they'll trade Sale, Frazier, Jennings and Robertson. You think Frazier or Robertson return a top 100?
-
Eaton and Archer have the same amount of control and almost exactly the same amount of money due over that span. One was one of the most valuable players in baseball last season while the other had a down year. To suggest that Eaton will be traded for anything less than a franchise changing haul is ludicrous. The only way he moves is either because the FO does really want to get rid of him or they get a crazy, franchise changing offer.

QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) That's interesting PP34, In Klaws chat today he said PIT should ask for Giolito and Robles in a shoot for the stars land on the moon moment. I mean, if You could get Giolito and Robles for Adam Eaton, prior to a Sale trade, we are talking about a serious infusion of high ceiling talent. You should be getting A LOT more than those 2 for Eaton. 3 extra years of control for $10.4 million more, coming off a way better season, better defensively, and younger. An Eaton trade would require an unprecedented haul back. Would be easier to get Sale honestly.

QUOTE (kwill @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 12:20 PM) What is weird is the Pirates interest in Robles. I thought the reason they want to move McCutchen is to make room for Austin Meadows. I would love to see the Pirates get into the bidding war as they have some fantastic young talent and could use an ace to anchor their rotation. Sale+Cole would be as good as any in the national league. Robles is a 19 yr old in Single A, they have plenty of time with their current OF and will probably do the same thing they are doing now with Cutch with Marte in a few seasons. Actually pretty smart on their part.
-
It's an odd move, b/c Cutch is actually pretty bad in CF, but that lineup would be mental.

QUOTE (Deadpool @ Dec 1, 2016 -> 04:27 AM) That Trump University education keeps paying dividends, doesn't it? Go figure out the difference between owning a sports franchise and owning a business. That kindergarten horse manure doesn't hold up. That's funny coming from somebody who roots for a team that is run by Trump supporters that has players that are openly Trump supporters

Jones and Frazier/Abreu should be a discussion

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Nov 29, 2016 -> 01:56 PM) Jerry Crasnick @jcrasnick Just heard the #Astros are still a potential option for Edwin Encarnacion. That move doesn't make any sense unless they really are looking to move Bregman for a TOR pitcher. You have 1B/DH/C between Encarnacion, Gattis, McCann, and Gurriel. -
Theoretically, if a trade for Sale brought back something like: Benintendi Devers E Rod Swihart + And you fielded a team of: C Swihart/Narvaez 1B Abreu/Frazier/Saladino 2B Saladino/? SS Anderson/Saladino 3B Frazier/Saladino LF Cabrera/Swihart CF Benintendi RF Eaton DH Cabrera/FA SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Rodriguez SP Fulmer SP Shields I could see that being better than a 81 win team without squinting too hard
-
Pretty straight forward question: if the Sox end up trading Sale, do you think the haul and free agent additions could lead them to having a better team? I think it'll be hard to replace Sale's value, but I could definitely see a situation where the Sox plug 1-2 holes with studs, get trade pieces to fill other holes, then maybe fill in free agency. They still keep most of their core with extra control (Q, Eaton, Anderson, Rodon, Jones, etc.) and add young talent to supplement that core while not fully committing to blowing the entirety of this core up. With the way this offseason has developed so far, I could see this being the move of the front office.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 12:54 PM) JJ Cooper of BA: White Sox have been thin on catching for years. Good pickup for them. Solid catch and throw with 30 bat. What is "solid"? 55? 50? 30 bat won't play at the next level if the defense isn't atleast above average.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 28, 2016 -> 08:16 AM) I don't see how that plan could possibly work because the bullpen would flat out suck. I dont really see it dropping off that much if they decided to trade Robertson and bring up Burdi to setup Jones. Personally, I think they should trade Robertson and Jones though.
-
I wonder with their current money situation if the Dodgers would swap Puig for Robertson? Money lines up relatively well, they don't need to shell out big for Kenley, and can keep the comp pick. In addition they address a need and do it from an area of surplus.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 27, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Devils advocate - that makes them less likely to trade for Sale as trading away a bunch of cheap talent across multiple positions is not a luxury they have now. They will not be able to use cash to plug in holes, are more reliant on their farm to produce than ever. This is much more along the lines of how I read it. It'll be interesting to see how they plug massive holes at 3B and closer without cash, but I really think this more means that they wouldn't ransom the farm for the short term. -

I wonder if a deal could be focused around Sale and Frazier/Abreu/Jones? -

If Bregman is on the table, you make that deal. Him and Anderson on the left side of the infield for the next 5 years sounds juicy. Astros make the most sense, they are so damn close to being the top team in the AL. They need that front of the rotation arm though. -
"One general manager says that Jose Quintana‘s name didn’t come up in talks with the White Sox, leading the GM “to believe they’d like to hold on to him. [Chris] Sale was mentioned, [Carlos] Rodon was mentioned and all the others, but not Quintana.” Reports have the White Sox ready to listen on any player who isn’t under long-term control, though Quintana technically doesn’t fit this description. He is under contract through 2019 with a club option for 2020, and given how Quintana has pitched during his career, that early-career extension has become a bargain for the Sox. Rodon’s inclusion is interesting, as the highly-touted lefty can’t hit free agency until after the 2021 season, though just because Rodon’s name may have been mentioned in discussions obviously isn’t any sign that Chicago is exploring trades."

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 19, 2016 -> 02:36 PM) Part of me feels that it's not as much about rebuilding as it is getting rid of Sale and his attitude This. I've long felt they are going to be doing a hybrid rebuild/retool. I think they are close to a deal with Sale that'll plug quite a few holes and they don't want to mortgage too much of the "now" picture. I bet they trade Sale and Frazier, Robertson midseason, and maybe Melky at some point.
